Debate: Palin Plans to Be Herself, Biden Still Deciding

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 31 Comments

(2008-10-02) — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to “just be herself” in tonight’s vice presidential debate, and Democrat insiders said today that rival Joe Biden is still mulling such a strategy.

“I told Joe not to risk it,” said one unnamed DNC strategist. “It’s late in the process and we really don’t have time to do the research required to prep him for that kind of approach.”

Aides also fear that Sen. Biden “might not be up to the challenge of keeping the details of his own life history straight.”

If asked by debate moderator, and future best-selling Obama historian, Gwen Ifill about his education, an anonymous source said, “Joe might struggle to explain how he graduated in the top 50 percent of the bottom quarter of his law school class after earning half of a full academic scholarship based on financial need.”

Sen. Biden, whose only political role prior to the Senate was two years as a council member in New Castle County, Delaware, is also said to be concerned that the debate will focus on leadership — an area where his opponent enjoys a decided advantage.

“If that happens,” an Obama-Biden campaign adviser said, “Joe will just have to let his hair down, pour on the charm and just win the hearts of the American people.”

    Might work, very amusing Scott!

  • 3 RepublicanAttackMachine // Oct 2, 2008 at 11:36 am

Maybe “Joe” will follow suit and just be “herself” too”?

That would probably sew up the transgender vote!

Then again, maybe Joe will start as one person, then “change” DURING the debate, as his idol O’Bama has done so far in the campaign?

  • 4 RepublicanAttackMachine // Oct 2, 2008 at 11:40 am

How about a debate between John Hagee and “Rev” Wright?

I would PAY to see John Hagee mop up the floor with the RACIST Wright!

Andy McCarthy describes in detail Biden’s Baggage” . With over thirty-some years in the Senate, the man has no over-riding policy convictions. Hisl mode of operation is partisanship, polls, political pragmatism. In his limited world-view, he is “Biden First!” He is neither clean nor articulate.

(I may have one of the only collector’s items of FDR’s televised address to the nation re the Great Depression caught on videotape in 1929.)

OLA, don’t brag about that FDR address. I’ve got one of the old DVDs.
    Red-White-and-Blue-Ray, y’know.

Sarah Palin’s biggest challenge will be to keep from laughing. Biden will “win,” of course — tomorrow’s New York Times front page is already in the pressroom — but between the Democrats’ efforts to paint the Governor as a bimbo and Senator Biden’s long history of emulating one, all Palin’s got to do is give Joe the microphone and she’s a shoo-in.

Joe will just have to let his hair down, pour on the charm and just win the hearts of the American people.

Hahaha! Are you referring to “Plugs” Biden? Not much hair there… OR charm. Good one Scott!

I posted Isaiah 59 recently because the truth has died in the streets. Those who depart from evil make themselves the prey of the wicked. I also like the promise that comes with it.

And “God saw it and it displeased him.” So His arm brought salvation, recumbence etc. The media is so much worse than the people they support. Because they have the power to inform the people of the truth. Truth that they with their resources can not help be aware of, and they choose to propagate the lie.

So to go a little “King James” on them, and the local troll population, “Woe be it unto those who call good evil and evil good.”

Go look up “woe” in the dictionary.

I have my wine being cooled in the fridge and some fine Amish cheese. I hope the Democrats have some whine to go with their cheesy delegate.

    “Nuff said

Mack #9 - Addressing trolls about anything is a lesson in futility. I seriously doubt that any of them even own a dictionary. Occasionally as an act of mercy or as a humanitarian gesture it’s permissible to toss some pearls, so…..

    woe |wō|
    noun often humorous
great sorrow or distress : they had a complicated tale of woe.
    • ( woes) things that cause sorrow or distress; troubles : to add to his woes, customers have been spending less.
    PHRASES
woe betide someone (or woe to someone) used humorously to warn someone that they will be in trouble if they do a specified thing : woe betide anyone wearing the wrong color!
woe is me! an ironical or humorous exclamation of sorrow or distress.
ORIGIN natural exclamation of lament: recorded as wā in Old English and found in several Germanic languages.

So, it’s not enough to read the definition. To really understand, woe must be experienced. Living it is the best teacher and unless McCain is deliberately taking a ‘dive’. They will learn on Nov. 4th more about woe than they will want to know.

On the other hand if McCain is indeed taking a ‘dive’ then they, Scrapplers, Liberals, Conservatives, Independents and 99.999% of all of America will REALLY, REALLY, REALLY learn by experience what woe really is. We will look back fondly on the disastrous Presidency of Jimmy Carter as the “Good old days”.

The way McCain can take a ‘dive’ while appearing not to, is to just keep that muzzle strapped on Sarah Palin (an almost guaranteed defeat) instead of turning her loose and let her be the same Sarah we met during her first two speeches. (an almost guaranteed win).

I just bought a box of whoppers and am sure there will be enough “whine” to go along with it tonight.

This in from Angus the Scott:

The last video speaking to this was removed from YouTube within three days of it appearing. makes you wonder who is behind this big coverup.

This is amazing. Obama is again tied to Fannie Mae along with the democrats, yet they try to place the blame of our current financial crisis on the Republicans and Bush. it is amazing that he can look right into the cameras and lie to all Americans.

Americans must wake up before the election or they may pay a terrible price for the future.
This must be part of the “Change” Obama was talking about….
Explosive video depicting Fannie Mae CEO speech - calling B. Hussein Obama, and the Democrats, as the ‘family’ and ‘conscience of Fannie Mae! (atch).
Apparently, the recent severe economic down-turn was NOT caused by John McCain!
On this point alone - which candidate, and party, could best lead us in our recovery?

Ralph Nader, why do you ask?

  • 17 RedPepper // Oct 2, 2008 at 3:30 pm

My advice to Joe is : Don’t listen to the nay-sayers, Joe ! Be all that you can be !

Forget yourself , Joe ; be Mick Jagger !

    He’s British - he’s way cool ! - and, he’s got hair!

    Go for it !

  • 18 baragirl // Oct 2, 2008 at 3:42 pm

Oh Mr. boberinyetagain , please ,please tell us ,as we wait with baited breath, what would a President Nader do for all of us and the USA?

  • 19 boberinyetagain // Oct 2, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Well, for a tremendous start he would have come out squarely against this “rescue” plan that neither of the “mainstream” candidates seems to have the guts to do.
That, for me, would have been enough but…the other “choices” we face are so bad I’d rather see me elected (and I do NOT want to see me elected)

Good thing Mick Jagger is British. If he were Scottish, he’d be singing “Hey, Macleod, Get Off of My Ewe!”

  • 21 Just Ranting // Oct 2, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Sarah will do very well tonight. I’m sure many of us are praying for her. She appears to be a faithful, intelligent and genuine person who has her country’s best interests at heart. I hope she plans well and leaves the rest in God’s hands. The Holy Spirit will place the appropriate words within her.

As a wise person once said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

  • 22 mindknumbed kid // Oct 2, 2008 at 6:18 pm

I am fairly certain that with the MSM of today that a Demakook candidate could come out against the porkout plan and get away with it. I have my doubts that any conservative could do it, unless his opponent also opposed the plan. And if we are to be so fortunate as to have the House defeat it (don’t hold your breath) the MSM will spin it into a negative for McCain.
I would think that with the results of the Demickratic control of both the House and Senate, and what they have done to states such as Michigan, and formerly California, that the average Joe would at least think twice about it when he/she goes to vote. But obviously many voters are not informed, not teachable, and I suspect they really want to be on the winning side when the voting is finished and thus rely on what the polls tell them to figure out who they will support. And let’s face it, there are plenty of opportunities to educate yourself ( if you are one of the few that meet the qualifications to learn) but few bother making an attempt. Even a blind fool should see through this whitewashing of Oblinger (bling coutesy of MSMania), and the poo-slinging toward the Lady Sarah Palin (may God exalt her highly), but the majority are drunk on the nectar of the mess-I-ugh and will not sober up until at least two years into the “tribulation”, if then.
“If my people, which are called by my name…”, tonight is a good opportunity to make intercession for Lady Palin d.b.a. America.

[...] Posted on October 2, 2008 I’m gonna go for it again and cover this much anticipated VP debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. It will probably be the most watched VP debate ever. Anticipation is high, and expectations from the media are low for Palin. We will see. Enjoy some satire too. [...]

[...] Palin Plans to Be Herself, Biden Still Deciding October 2, 2008 at 7:07 pm [...]

  • 25 questioning the answers // Oct 3, 2008 at 12:01 am

Well it is after the debate, and I must confess, that Governor Palin was exactly how she rehearsed herself. What a pity, I really thought we might have more intelligent answers from the nice lady. If she had not memorized the lines she recited, and not relied on the teleprompter so much, she might have appeared to have some knowledge about the subjects covered.

Senator Biden, on the other hand, seemed to have an excellent working knowledge of the subjects.

Looks like this might be for the first time in my life I may need to fall of my comfortable perch on the fence and fall off onto the left side.

How many times did she say energy producing state? or Maverick?

Maverick? Wasn’t a Maverick a quick rusting Ford product from the 70’s? Why would I want to follow a Maverick, when I drive a Cadillac?

  • 26 RepublicanAttackMachine // Oct 3, 2008 at 11:23 am

I am a Chevy man myself. When I was young an naive, I always wanted a Caddy, UNTIL I realized, they are essentially the SAME vehicle as most other GM products, but with the added disadvantage of parts costing more, (SAME PARTS with Caddy name and number), and the added cost that MOST mechanics charge because they know people that can afford a Caddy, (or even the ones that CANNOT afford one, but are in their heads in debt-sound familiar with the mortgage bailout?), can also afford a higher price for repairs!

Now tell us again who won the debate, Mr/Ms “Not so bright”!

BTW, a Maverick gets MUCH better mileage, and is more “Al Gore” and enviro-nut friendly!

What kind of a lib wack job are you, and did you hit your head when you fell off the fence?

  • 27 movie buff // Oct 3, 2008 at 4:46 pm

the VP debate was stunning. Palin did a decent job faking about 20% of the questions and didn’t even bother answering the other 80%. it made me think of the end of the movie Billy Madison, when the Principal says to Adam Sandler, “Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

Well RAM I have to tell you that the Chevrolet is a nice car, but the offering just does not match up to a STS. I pay cash for my vehicles, (depreciating assets) and I made SENSIBLE decisions regarding my mortgage (real estate FKA, appreciating assets) and debt situations.

I am a lib whack job that worked the Nixon, Reagan, Bush and GW Bush Presidential campaigns, as well as my good friend, God rest his soul, Henry Hyde’s campaigns since the 1970’s.

Of course as you will note I did not say who WON the debate. Just some general observations.

AL Gore, you mean the guy who was actually elected in 2000? Enviro-nut? If you call being a little concerned about the air quality and water that my family needs to consume, nutty, I guess you could call me an enviro-nut?

Just when can we expect to see indictments of the crooks and the crooked in this mortgage debacle?

  • 31 questioning the answers // Oct 3, 2008 at 9:36 pm

movie buff, I could not have made a better analogy if I tried. Bravo.
