DNC ‘Real People’ Include Working Mom $24M in Debt

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 36 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-08-22) — The Democrat National Convention speaker line up will feature a number of “real people” talking about the pain of living in these tough economic times, including an Indiana railroader, a Michigan truck driver, and an ordinary working mother from New York who’s saddled with $24 million in campaign debt.

The woman, who spent that money in an effort to get a better job, saw her hopes and dreams crushed because of sex discrimination in the Democrat party during the Bush administration.

Her husband has no regular paycheck and must often travel hundreds of miles to find work, so the high price of fuel has cut deeply into their monthly budget.

While she has tried to “pull herself up by her own bootstraps” by asking supporters of presidential nominee Barack Obama to pay off her debt, near-recession conditions have kept them from being able to help.

A spokesman for the DNC said, “This story will help TV viewers to see the brutal impact of eight years with a Republican in the White House. Lots of woman will identify with her plight. After all, she’s not the first lady to feel the pain of George Bush’s repressive regime.”

I know that poor woman was so hard up that she was forced tos teal the china and furniture from the White House.

America felt sorry for her and turned their backs long enough, enabling the Atlas Moving Company to find little treasures lying about the Presidential Mansion.

You know they left hungry and destitute.

Hey!!!! No one has asked me ‘how many double- wides I own?’

  • 7 Fred Sinclair // Aug 22, 2008 at 10:32 am

WoW!! It’s a beautiful day in the State of West Michigan, where things keep getting gooder and gooderer - however on another front off to our right (on the map) lies The People’s Republic of East Michigan, where things are getting worser and worser.

While most of Americans are doing pretty good, Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) (Canadian Liberal) along with senators Debbie Stabenow (D) and Carl Levin (D) have dragged the state into a recession and/or depression.

However we in W. Michigan have Pete Hoekstra(R) 2nd Dist - (Holland) Pete’s a scrapper out of the Ronald Reagan mold. He can always be relied upon to do the right thing…….always. Nationally he has no name recognition but would make a great President!

As for me, I’m feeling great! Feet and calves healing wonderfully - in large part due to my use of Vitamin E (d-alpha). Pressure sores on bottom almost entirely healed - again Vitamin E (d-alpha).

The bacterial problem is responding well to the anti-biotics I’m taking and am eating a LOT of yogurt which countered the diarrhea. So things are looking up. Feeling fine - after all I could have been born B.O.’s brother and be living in a 7′ x 9′ hut in Kenya!

One of my favorite songs is a piece by Don Francisco - “There Ain’t Nothing Gonna Happen Today That The Lord and Me Together Can’t Handle” (I play it a lot) and if I’m having a ‘bad hair’ day - He often shoulders the whole load.

    Happy birthday Maggie.

On to the thread. Me thinks there will be fewer and fewer contributors to Obama when his poll numbers dump afte the convention. This guys campaign is going flat like a spiked tire.

I wonder what did him in. We all have seen the picture of his half brother and read the story. But I doubt John McCains people found him. I doubt the MSM would look.

But I have no doubt the the PUMAs would.

  • 10 Ms RightWing, Ink // Aug 22, 2008 at 11:23 am

OB1, the mess.i.ah can use some of his presidential money to help his brother move out of that detestable one room shack to a more modern two room shack with running water (when it rains).

I heard (in my imagination) the brother of OB1 is one of the guest speakers at the convention and will give his surprising thoughts on Matthew 25 in Swahili:

The translator will interpret his speech for the audience:

The King will reply, ‘I tell you-the merciful lovers of Christ-the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ For that I am eternally thankful.

“Then he will say to those on his “…. left….,” ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat but worthless vouchers and food stamps, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink but cheap wines sold for a tidy profit by Arab store owners, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, but mocked me because I needed clothes and you did not clothe me with hip threads, I was sick from the cheap wine and and in prison for selling bootlegged DVD’s and you did not look after me.’

I wanted an education but instead you put me into inner city schools. I wanted a job, instead you told my people not to worry for social services would continue to help us. I wanted to be free, instead you shackled us with broken promises.

Obama, tear down your walls of deceit, lies and socialist promises.

    He then will continue:

‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these little newborns, who by your decrees, allowed it to lay on a table gasping for breath until he or she dies, you did not do for me.’

Then they, who gave us hope, but lied instead will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

Choose this day, you who sit here, blessings or curses, life or death

…………Well, we could pretend can’t we. Sorry for the long post but my inagination got the best of me.

    Beerme

You mean from the Ding Mynasty?

Does anyone know what the retirement fund is for ex-presidents. Mucho grande yens I’m sure. Plus, I am sure they get secret service for the rest of their lives, of which Hillary uses for a spy every time Bill goes for a Pizza at 2 a.m.

    Fred#7,
Sir ,We have the most Honorable Candice Miller.

Ms. Miller is awesome. She and her staff are a great organization.

Fifth column or call you what you want, From Wayne County to the Port,
From my Maternal hometown of Harbor Beach, and the lil places no hears of like Thorton, From Grindstone City to the humble village of beloved Memphis.
A great people dislike (we CAN’T HATE) the state of this Union.
When I hear B.O. say China is a better place , well my shorts fry worse than my best Venison.
Even fried anything I cook is excellent, I learned along with Ms. Gone.
I am just a voice to say what I hear, and I don’t Lie.
    There is a ground swell.

    And I still exist too……

Happy Birthday Maggie!!! It’s great to celebrate you today, and to hear you and Fred so joyfully counting your blessings. God be praised!

On topic, it does appear the DNC is doing its best to show the Clintons the door, doesn’t it? I might even have to watch some of this convention.

  • 18 JamesonLewis3rd // Aug 22, 2008 at 1:33 pm

I find the current back-and-forth between the presumptive Democrat candidate and the Republican candidate to be puerile on way too many levels.

I like the way BO has continued to procrastinate (read: play the media like a fiddle) and say, “Nyah-nyah, I-I’m no-o-ot te-el-l-lin-n-n’…..” until everyone is so sick of it that what miniscule interest there might have been has plummeted into triple-digit negative numbers overnight.

    Query:
Don’t the TV reporters and cameramen out in the field dogging anybody and everybody alive get paid overtime? Isn’t there a union involved? Just wondering.

  • 19 Mack // Aug 22, 2008 at 2:08 pm

From what I can gather, the end is near for the Obama campaign. Hillary’s surrogates have done their work well in digging dirt on him. He is making a fool out of himself like the movie “Anchorman” where Will Ferrell needed a teleprompter to burp on que.

If his numbers are sagging before the convention and he fails to get the “bump” then Hillary will be chuckling all the way to the voting booth. 4 more years and she can really rev up her political machine. She will be ready come 2012.

It’s funny that the election is actually what the MSM has said it would be, a contest between the Democrats. Sore loser will take down BO and McCain will have to deal with the hostile congress.

This poor lady. And then to have the humiliation of finding out that she wasn’t even vetted by the OB1-Can-Know-Bees.

OT and back at the last thread. The last post reminded me…I should have been picketing that thread. I should have been smashing fonts and crashing html. My great grandmother made me a lifetime, card-carrying member of the Christian Women’s Temperance Union on the day I was born. She signed an oath in my name, vowing that demon alcohol and tobacco would not touch my lips. My grandmother, was named after Carrie Nation’s cohort, Francis Willard. So just consider yourselves fortunate that the violent nature of the prohibition movement was not passed on in my genes - just the pledge. :-)

c-a-t #20 - the WCTU picked a poor title- temperate being “in between” like the temperate zone re: polar regions and the torrid tropics The WCTU almost alone caused the word to mean abstinence.
    Titus 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

    1Tim. 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

    Titus 2:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

There is a distinction in scripture between “not given to wine” and “not given to much wine”

I believe it was John MacArthur who clarified it for me - “given to” or obsessed by, while “given to much” would be the uncontrollable drinking of an alcoholic.

Everything in moderation, nothing to excess. A glass or two of wine with the lasagna and a nitecap before retiring would be in moderation.

I was raised in Southern Baptist churches who taught that the miracle at Cana was Jesus turning water into Welch’s Grape Juice, but then I read what the Bible had to say. There was a connoisseur present who commented that most hosts served the good wine first and only after folks were tipsy would he bring out the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best for last.

John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
John 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

Abstinence is a matter of personal choice not of Scripture.

Maggie: Let me add my “Happy Birthday!” to the heap. Btw, I highly recommend that you compute your age the way I do … in “cat” (or “dog”) years! I’m about to break into double digits this year, myself …

Oh, and speaking of “c-a-t”s (#20), you’ve reminded me of this story, which I first read in my misspent youth:

    A Buddha

In Tokyo in the Meiji era there lived two prominent teachers of opposite characteristics. One, Unsho, an instructor in Shingon, kept Buddha’s precepts scrupulously. He never drank intoxicants, nor did he eat after eleven o’clock in the morning. The other teacher, Tanzan, a professor of philosophy at the Imperial University, never observed the precepts. When he felt like eating he ate, and when he felt like sleeping in the daytime he slept.

One day Unsho visited Tanzan, who was drinking wine at the time , not even a drop of which is supposed to touch the tongue of a Buddhist.

“Hello, brother,” Tanzan greeted him. “Won’t you have a drink?”

“I never drink!” exclaimed Unsho solemnly.

“One who does not drink is not even human,” said Tanzan.

“Do you mean to call me inhuman just because I do not indulge in intoxicating liquids!” exclaimed Unsho in anger. “Then if I am not human, what am I?”

    “A Buddha,” answered Tanzan.

  • 28 mindknumbed kid // Aug 22, 2008 at 6:30 pm

mig- How dare you say go to Hill!

Maggie - Happy Birthday! I am vaguely familiar with roman numerals , but I must admit that I am stumped when you wrote your age as being PTL.
I know that L represents 50, but P and T? I never learned those values, but I’m thinking that you must be exaggerating a bit…

As for the strong drink discussion, I prefer to abstain, it just works better for me. The most studious man I ever knew said that he noticed a decrease in his productivity (he ws running a machine, I do not recall any other details as to what) after consuming only one beer before going to work. So he determined that he did not want to drink alcohol. Although I never knew him to goto church, he had a lot of wisdom when it came to how he did things in his life.
