(2008-04-15) — Democrats in Congress today attacked President George Bush’s latest $200 million “go it alone adventure”, just a day after the Commander in Chief ordered the bombardment of Haiti, Egypt, Bangladesh, Mozambique and several other countries with thousands of tons of food.
Food shortages in those lands sparked riots over the weekend, which Democrats described as “internal matters” for the nations involved that could quickly become “quagmires” if the U.S. steps in.
In a joint news release, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, said: “No wonder people around the world hate the United States. The Bush administration’s unilateral action serves only to reinforce the perception of the U.S. as imperialist and interventionist. We demand the president halt preemptive strikes against hunger in these peaceful, sovereign nations.”
The Democrat leaders further accused the Bush administration of barraging some 78 nations with $2.1 billion in food in the last year alone “in what can only be described as a cynical attempt to achieve nutritional hegemony.”
Congressional Democrats suggested “sending United Nations inspection teams to determine if, in fact, food shortages are occurring, and then building a coalition to achieve a diplomatic solution to the crises.”

I forget where or when but I do remember seeing a video about a “potato gun” that actually fired potatoes.

I just now entered potato gun on dogpile and rewatched the video. It’s a hoot.
So now we can invade these countries armed with potato guns and fire potatoes at the starving masses!

Filled with bean bags, rice bags, tofu bags, wheat bags, etc. these potato guns could really catch on.
But of course the libbers would find a way to condemn it as “upsetting the natural balance” by contributing to the world’s overpopulation, seeing as how the people who are supposed to starve to death, would continue to live.

A friend of mine built a genuine potato gun, he only used it for domestic purposes though. Dan Quayle had one too, I guess his was a potatoe gun.

Surprising quantities of America’s potato crop, particular exotic varieties, have been produced in Alaska.
This year those botique potatoes are going to have true botique prices IF you can find any.
Agrium, the only fertilizer manufacturer in Alaska, has been closed down due to lack of natural gas for production (yes, fertilizer is made from natural gas). Farmers have already been put on notice that their usual supplies are not availabe. All fertilizer used in Alaska for the 2008 crop will be imported and expensive. Also, due to similar raw material problems elsewhere, fertilizer will be “rationed” to established customers, already on notice that their regular orders cannot be filled.
Imagine what happens to other crops that use fertilizer as this expands!
Or, maybe, we might not have to use any imagination at all.
