Shocker: NY Governor Brings Cash to D.C., Leaves It

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 58 Comments

(2008-03-10) — News that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer may be accused of a rendezvous with a pricey prostitute in a Washington D.C. hotel on the eve of Valentine’s Day has shocked his party’s faithful, who can hardly believe that a Democrat, or a state governor, left the nation’s capital with less money than he had on arrival.

According to a 47-page affidavit unsealed by federal prosecutors today, a man referred to as Client 9 (allegedly Gov. Spitzer) paid a woman about $4,300 in a D.C. hotel.

A spokesman from the prosecutor’s office said, “Typically, when a Democrat Governor comes to the nation’s capital, he’s got his hat in hand and winds up leaving town with a bunch of money. The fact that Spitzer brought money into the District, gave it to a taxpayer, and left with less cash in his pocket was a red flag for us.”

Gov. Spitzer, who made his reputation as a hard-charging prosecutor, appeared to have tears in his eyes at a brief news conference today during which he stood with the mother of his three children and acknowledged a personal indiscretion and failure to “live up to his own standards.”

“I can never get that money back,” said Gov. Spitzer, “but I can work to rebuild the trust of the voters who have relied upon me to, in fact, bring home the bacon from Washington.”

It’s hard to believe a democrat would willingly leave Washington…

    Now, that’s funny.

Maybe he was just getting his hair cut? Not much more the Edwards reportedly has paid.

In some ways, that’s unusual…but in others, it’s business as usual.

mkk #1 WoW! Not only is that funny, but although it may not be a first, it’s the very first I’ve seen - getting a posted direct comment by Scott himself. editorial inserts yes, but your comment funny as it is (and it is) is made even funnier by Scott. I doff my cap in admiration.

mkk #3: Wrong Edwards, mkk. Governor Spitzer wasn’t modeling his behavior on Senator Edwards. Perhaps you were confusing The Breck Girl with former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards .

“The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy”. — Edwin Edwards, 1983

And in other news cHillary (who trails Obama in the race for her party’s nomination) proposed that he become her running mate? Now that is desperation on display folks! Maybe she should consider throwing herself at him instead, he seems to have been in the driver’s seat from the get go.I tell you, it takes guts to make that offer - in my humble opinion.

Was that photo at the press-er today,
or after his wife tore his lying lips off?
    ——-
Heard Charles Krauthammer this evening skewer Spitzer and his ilk for using their wives as props when they stand before the press.
    I agree- it is disgusting,

prettyold #11: Actually, if you read the story closely, it looks as though his tryst with “Kristen” was Eliot’s Valentine’s Day gift to his wife this year !

Conversations were recorded about someone identified as “Client 9,” including that a prostitute identified as “Kristen” should take a train from New York to Washington for a tryst on the night of Feb. 13, according to an affidavit.

A law enforcement source in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Associated Press that “Client 9″ was Spitzer and that he met with “Kristen” in a Washington hotel room just two hours before Valentine’s Day.

Apparently, Governor Spitzer was just giving his wife a night off …

With HillBilly, Inc. as his mentor or role model I shouldn’t be surprised if the DNC puts Spitzer’s name in the hat for the POTUS nomination in 2012.

I guess that Spitzer (D) is no longer on Madame Hillary’s short list for US AG when she seizes control of the White House through the coup of the harpies.

Imagine: The Queen of the Mao jacket has wiped out all references to Spitzer (D) from her campaign website. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Rove on Hannity just now- Hannity read a puff piece on Rove in today’s NYT.

Rove responded with “What have I done wrong that would cause the NYT to say nice things about me?”

I just thought that was hilariously funny, in the ballpark with mkk’s comment in #1.

Its about time a politician caught with more than his finger in the cookie jar has to pay the price for screwing the public. I can’t wait to see the spin on this one but the chattering room classes seem to think all is well in NYC as Spitzer was merely paying for the expertise of a young lady whereas a Republican would have chosen a child.

Anyone who thinks that you can be rational with a liberal is certifiably insane. They have torn their own party apart, cheated in voting, lied in public (Oh, no sin for a politician, my bad) and done everything they have accused President Bush of and yet have no shame. Sociopath fits the Democrat party elite as sure as stink fits a skunk, but the skunk isn’t to blame, he had no choice.

OLA Re#25: “[Hillary]… wiped out all references to Spitzer (D) from her campaign website.

She’ll forgive him. The $4300 will be listed as a campaign donation, and Kristen is obviously a bundler.

  • 28 DocFarmer // Mar 11, 2008 at 6:25 am

Now now, you’ve all got it wrong here. Sptizer was OBVIOUSLY lobbying for a new minimum wage of $4300 per hour, in order to eliminate poverty in America!

  • 29 RedPepper // Mar 11, 2008 at 6:52 am

For those who are not residents of the Vampire State, as we here affectionately call New York, this editorial contains some background information about Eliot Spitzer’s career. An example:

In perhaps the incident most suggestive of Mr. Spitzer’s lack of self-restraint, the then-Attorney General personally threatened John Whitehead … “I will be coming after you,” Mr. Spitzer said, according to Mr. Whitehead’s account. “You will pay the price. This is only the beginning, and you will pay dearly for what you have done.”

Fwiw, it’s also a pretty good editorial …

Maggie, I saw your shout out-I’ve been here, just lurkin’. I’ve been doing my best to win the contest Fred and gafisher were talking about a few threads ago (the try to get a decent job in Michigan, not the try to survive driving through north country with ‘D’ bumper stickers). I had an interview the other day and went for a pre-employment physical yesterday. Wish me luck! The $$ isn’t quite what I need, but it’s better than squat, which is what I’ve been making for a long time. Anyway, it may not be a decent job (although much more decent than ‘Kristen’s), but I won’t have to leave the state to do it!

    Btw, happy birthday to me!

    Happy Birthday Marge!

The louder they yell about something (corruption, prostitution, gambling, homosexuality, drugs, take your pick of “sins”) the likelier it is that they are hiding something/afraind of something that they see in themselves and, if such things were not roundly and loudly condemned then they might..just might….
Even crusaders just can’t help themselves. To participate (in whatever) is just way too much fun.

I was gonna wish you a Happy Birthday Marge!!

Arrogance. That’s what brought him down. Too many Law and Order episodes. He thought he was indispensable. He got cocky.

What would cause you to ’stand by your man’? Their daughters? The income? It just seems like the daughters will pay the price for their fathers crime, he’ll either be a Clintonista or a toe tapping Craigster.

I don’t think anybody really cares that he cheated on his wife. I think people do care that their gov. is a sleaze but mostly because he would ruin his competition with an indictment, but never take it to trial. He would ruin reputations with innuendo and slander in legal form.

    Marge - have a happy!

mig #32: Eliot Spitzer is one of the most widely detested individuals in American politics. The guy is in Richard Nixon territory. Here in the Capitol District, the stench of schadenfreude is so strong it would gag a maggot. If we were in the Middle East, old crones would be dancing in the streets, ululating and passing out candy.

It’s a real measure of the man’s colossal arrogance that he has yet to resign.

Bill Nelson (Damocrat, Florida) this morning tried to blame the Republicans for the vote problems of the Democrat primary, before saying that they would have to mail out “re-do” ballots to every registered democrat voter in Florida. Question: Are Florida’s primaries open? If so, they will need to mail ballots to EVERY registered Florida voter.

When a man and woman stand in front of a Minister ,Priest ,or Rabbi,to be married , they both swear an oath ,before G*d,Love honor cherish, etc. One of them breaks this oath ,acts as though it has no importance at all.Adultery!
So when a man (or woman) swears that Oath of Office to be Governor or Senator or President ,what is the difference? If he will not keep one oath, he will not keep another .What difference does it make if he swears in Court to tell the truth ,we already know his Oath is unimportant to him and he will break it if he wants to.
In my Bible ,I can’t find any place where it says adultery is a lessor crime than murder or stealing or False Witness.
I do care when a man is unfaithful to his wife.

  • 48 Beerme // Mar 11, 2008 at 5:36 pm

Breaking an oath could be considered perjury.
Happy Birthday, Marge! And good luck on the job offer!!!!

  • 49 mindknumbed kid // Mar 11, 2008 at 5:41 pm

That’s right prettyold, good points and so true. It goes to character, remember Hillary Clinton’s husband? Perfect example, no respect for an oath he has taken translates to no respect for the wife he has taken or the office he has taken. Without respect, he is not apt to make careful decisions or have any regard for them. But most Americans are only concerned with themselves, so as long as what a politician does is good for them, particularly their wallet, nothing else matters.
A man has got to guard his thoughts, if he entertains the wrong ones for long he will commence to acting on them, if he doesn’t care to guard them, he’ll do whatever he wants to do, he won’t be sorry for his actions, just getting caught and sorry for the trouble he gets into after he’s caught.

  • 50 mindknumbed kid // Mar 11, 2008 at 5:46 pm

And he will only say he is sorry to get his rear out of a sling, but he will not be sorry about his deeds.

I’m generalizing, if a man still has any sense of decency, he will learn from his mistakes and change his ways. Any evidence of that in Hillarys hubby’s life?

I just can’t agree that Scott Ott is no different than Elliot Spitzer.

When a man or woman takes up the mantle of leadership and calls out “Follow me , Let me lead you , Do as I tell you , I am smarter and more knowledgable than you,Give me your money ,I can spend it more wisely than you, I am purer than you”,they owe their followers .
I’m not saying I am better than Spitzer, I’m saying he should have been better than me , he should have been BETTER than Scott. Those who choose to lead should have Honor, they should be as honest as they can be,and the well being of those they lead should be their first concern, even before their family. Those who help the leaders should be treated with respect ,not as pack animals.
I’m speaking of all Leaders ,Politicians , Doctors, Lawyers ,Teachers, Preachers ,all who insist they should have control over others. We can’t all be followers ,some have to lead ,but if they choose to lead they owe the ones who lead them .
Somehow this has become twisted around ,so that leaders feel they are the ones who are owed.No they are not ,and they must be held to a higher standard, and they deserve a much harsher punishment when they willfully fail. When they steal and take bribes ,use drugs and commit adultery,an example should be made of them. Not a Country Club prison,or just a slap on the wrist ,but hard time ,just as all the other citizens of America have to serve.
I don’t agree that we get the Government we deserve. If all the Leaders were honest and told us the truth ,maybe that would be true. They know once they get inside that first door ,they’ve got it made. They become rich beyond their wildest dreams and know they will never be punished if they are caught.

  • 54 prettyold // Mar 12, 2008 at 2:37 pm

I certainly hope no one ,especially Scott ,took my last post as criticizing Scott Ott. I certainly wasn’t . Just from what I read ,Scott has to be a much better person than Elliot Spitzer. Even if he is not ,he has never told me how to live ,how to vote ,how to spend my money,or tried to influence me ,except by very clever humor.
I would trust Scott to spend time with my children or grandchildren, and never would have trusted Mr Spitzer near anyone I love.
I pray that Mr Spitzer can treat this as a wake up call ,and really turn his life around.Maybe in a few years he can be half as as good a man as Scott Ott.
