Obama Courts Pro-Choice Group: 'I'm a Survivor'

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 96 Comments

(2008-03-05) — Sen. Barack Obama, in a campaign speech to the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL Pro-Choice America) today, said he’s not concerned about his losses to Sen. Hillary Clinton in Ohio and Texas yesterday, because he’s “a survivor.”

The Democrat presidential hopeful, who as an Illinois legislator once blocked a bill that would have banned killing an infant outside of the womb who had somehow survived an abortion, told the pro-choice group his very presence in the presidential race shows that he has something that a lot of black men and women of his generation lack…a pulse.

“In 1973 alone,” said Sen. Obama, “white doctors aborted roughly 400,000 African-American fetuses. Those people would be 35-years-old this year, and would have been eligible to run for the presidency. But they didn’t make the cut, so to speak. I did. I’m a survivor and that’s the kind of person we need in the White House advocating the pro-choice cause.”

But as a survivor myself, I can’t imagine taking a stand for THAT choice!

First of all, I say that whatever keeps the Democrat Party divided is OK by me…

  • 3 camojack // Mar 5, 2008 at 5:26 pm

…except all those abortions, of course. I was talking policies and positions.

I might need to rethink some things. I have referred to the muslim jihadists as being uncivilized, which must be true cause I said it. But I have thought of us “good guys” here in the good old US of A, but how much more uncivilized and barbaric can a nation get than to kill the innocent unborn in the womb? I ain’t gonna preach to the choir here. Don’t do no good no how.

“Pro-Choice group”? I wonder if they also believe in a woman’s choice to use vouchers to pick the school of her choice for her children (if she doesn’t first abort them)? And I wonder if they’re for a woman’s choice to a privatized social security account? And her choice of means to protect herself from the human predators in our society?

    Is it a nightmare scenario?
Some fear getting to a Dem convention without a clear winner will divide the party.
Gee, isn’t that too bad. What about all the “unity” and “love” liberals keep preaching about? If liberals can’t be united among themselves without a political gun being held to their heads, what chance do these brilliant Donks actually have ushering in world peace? I feel their pain.

Canada says leak was “blatantly unfair” to Obama
Get it? It’s not that the story of Obama contradicting his fiery anti-NAFTA rhetoric by sending a wink-wink nudge-nudge to Canadian officials to ignore his for-the-base rantings, but rather it was “blatantly unfair” that the truth was leaked. Obama will continue denying the back channel reassurances ever happened though Canadian officials have now … er, officially let the horses out of the barn. I’m sure the Canadian officials will issue a “clarification”.

Racist eugenicist Margaret Sanger would be proud of The Obamination’s positions on infanticide. But, I do wonder how she’d be able to reconcile her approval of his views with her disapproval of the existence of his race. Such dilemmas for the liberal/socialist types…”intellectual morons” who place ideology above humanity to the detriment of society.

The Dhimmicrap party is the death and treason party. They support any cause that will decrease the number of future constituents. Abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research with gov. funding, assisted suicide, not treating aids as an epidemic when first discovered, banning DDT, supporting terrorists with our refusal to drill for oil and buying it from the ME nut jobs, gun bans, etc. I’m sure I missed some.
Gov. funding of abortion. What a great way to control the minority population. Ms. Sanger would be proud.
And of course, any chance to give aid and comfort to our enemies. From Jimmah (never met a dictator I didn’t like) to the NY Slimes. We need to start prosecuting these assholes for treason.

prettyold - #10 - I too don’t like to be picky but Brett Favre, from what very, very little I’ve seen and heard was a highly successful businessman (CEO - aka -”quarterback) of a Wisconsin Corporation named “Green Bay Packers”.

I love sports, especially the sport of football but Brett hasn’t played the sport of football since his four years at The University of Southern Mississippi after which he left the sport for a job with The Falcons, after a year with them he switched jobs to work for the Packers.

I’m 70 years old and to me at least any Corporation paying it’s Executives mega multi-million dollar salaries cannot qualify as a sport. Any references to “Professional” Ball teams, i.e. - Baseball, Football, Basketball. etc. should be covered in the Business Section of newspapers.

So when Brett retires from his company, it may be a smart move to run for president - goodness knows, he definitely has more experience in running things than ANY of the current crop. If he runs as a genuine Conservative Republican, I for one will vote for him.

Considering the vast number of fans, he’d get a lot of crossover votes and just might win. With a movie star, a haberdasher, a peanut farmer - why not Brett?

    MajorDomo,

“Did they get this outlook from you, or from their friends?”

First you complain I post too much, then you post questions when I slow down.

Do you ask me questions only so you can mock my answers?

In the movie “It Runs In The Family (2003)”, Kirk Douglas’s character says to his son to the effect: “I think you are a better father than I was.” To which Michael Douglas says: “Well dad, it’s not like you set the bar real high”.

I thought that was funny, I also have thought my sons could answer me in that same way. But, still in all, I you could never convince me anyone ever produced better men.

My sons don’t believe that their duty to the United States is something they can “hire” others to do. They would be ashamed to advocate of the sacrifice of American lives, without putting their own at risk. When the time comes, they are the ones I want by my side.

I believe they have MY values, but they are grown men, and they are free to make all their choices independent of my views.

For now, we agree George W. Bush is a disgrace to his office, and an embarrassment to our country. We believe the Republican Party has become corrupt to it’s core. We also, have left those churches where the gospel of Jesus Christ has been replaced by “Christian Taliban” rule.

Converts won at the tip of a sword are not Christ’s.

We give all we can in time, money, and effort to end this “conservative” death hold on America.

The Nazi Party; The Communist Party; The Socialist Party (aka The DNC) THE SIERRA CLUB, Code Pink; Moveon.org etc. I would like a Constitutional Amendment making these outfits illegal. However as much as I would like it - it’ll never happen, since far too many in our Congress and various Government Agencies already belong to one or more of these Anti-American groups.

When gas hits $24.99 a gallon (people once laughed when someone said the day would come when a $0.12 per pack of cigarettes would one day cost a dollar or more) perhaps someone will have the fortitude to tell The Sierra Club to take a hike. Only it won’t be 25 bucks a gallon, that looks too scary - it’ll be $6.25 per quart or liter.

By that “logic”, since most Americans “walk the walk”, then there need be no laws at all.

“Walking the walk” is not a license to condone or promote sin. Nor is it an excuse to turn your back on the unfortunate, unwanted or those unable to fend for themselves.

In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.~~Matthew 23:28

Just because you say you are “walking the walk” means little if, in fact, you are not. I would have thought that, as a Biblical Scholar, you might have read (all) the words of Jesus at some point—I implore you to do so before it is too late.

I believe we are, as Christians, “comfortably numb”. We see all manner of evil and unrighteousness all throughout our land, we try to change it, but in the end the waves roll over us, and we are so frustrated that we are seemingly powerless to stop or change evil, (i.e. abortion) that we just numb our consciences to it in an effort to survive. After a while you learn how not to really let it bother you. I’m alright, you’re alright, right?
And it continues, rolling downhill, right on target for Hell, and we just sink in our bunkers wondering if there are any more tears to be shed. There are, if the numbness ever wears off.
They misunderstand that we are motivated by our compassion for them, ignorantly going down their roads that lead them to misery and destruction, not just because of the innocent life that is snuffed out, God knows each one of them, I believe he is fellowshipping with every one of them in Heaven, but few of the self-centered men and women that are party to the deed will ever know that unimaginable bliss. They know nothing of God’s justice system, judgment, wrath, and they think they are going to be just fine…..unfortunately not so.

Messiah Obama’s halo is getting a little tarnished. Ann Althouse documents voter intimidation and voter fraud by Messiah Obama supporters and precinct captains in Texas.

I guess this is another example of the “change” we can expect under an Obama regime. America will change into another backwater country like Kenya.

  • 54 Fred Sinclair // Mar 6, 2008 at 9:56 pm

I was reading earlier today about how jealous the original states were about maintaining their individual powers and rights.

Which is why they nailed down the limits on a federal central government. It wasn’t done willy-nilly but with much care and aforethought. The enumeration clause isn’t there by accident, nor is it a typo or translators error. The piece I was reading earlier, the author (I can’t find it now) he said that the best he could figure out, just about 50% of EVERYTHING currently being authorized by our Federal Government cannot be found anywhere in the Constitution. That 50% is what is meant by reserved to the states. ie: Every dime spent re - “Katrina” and every dime sent to relieve the tsunami a few years ago represents an unconstitutional expenditure of Federal funds. School lunch programs, national health care in any degree are also absent from the Constitution.

That constitution men and women have died to uphold and protect. Yet we have allowed liberals, socialists and communists (the camels nose under the tent flap) to come in and water it down until now its little more than an old piece of paper.

What I respect about Judge Janice Rogers Brown is that she is a strict constitutionalist. If a lawyer cannot show where it is in the constitution she throws the case out of her court. (Wash D.C. Federal Appeals Court) the other thing I respect about her is the fact that every liberal nutcase (oops-that’s a redundancy) in America hates her guts.

So while Janice is a Constitutionalist, I like the idea of a Preservationists Party. but how does it get started and who is going to start it?

“But how are you going to get the ocean temperature up to boiling?”

Just in from a “Northern” Michigan Church Brother (with his own take on humor).

Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, Northern Michigan is planning to do its own, titled “Survivor - Michigan Style”.

The contestants will start in Traverse City, travel over to Kalkaska and on to Grayling. Then they will head north to Gaylord, Mackinaw City and Sault Ste. Marie. From there they will proceed west to Iron Mountain and Copper Harbor. Then they will go southeast to Escanaba and St. Ignace; The final leg will be back to Traverse City.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with California license plates and a large bumper sticker that reads: I’m gay. I’m a vegetarian. Beer is harmful to your health. Republicans suck. Hillary in 2008. Deer hunting is murder and I’m here to confiscate your guns.

The first one that makes it back to Traverse City alive wins. Good luck to all contestants.

Off the web - “Tom Sullivan’s comments continue a trend on The Rush Limbaugh Show of promoting debunked conspiracy theories about the death of Foster, who committed suicide in 1993.”

Does anyone know who did the debunking? A web search turns up the word “debunked” a lot…Maybe it was Hillary who did the debunking?

I’ve followed this like a “Cold Case” Mystery. Dozens of links revealed not one mention of anyone actually ’seeing’ the Forensic Pathologist’s the “Suicide” determination appears to have been made by the Park Police. (on the scene) and the “Aha, see here it is” (well after the fact) finding of the “Suicide” weapon - turned out to be of a different caliber than the hole in Foster’s body.

From that moment on, anyone questioning the “Suicide Theory” was immediately jumped on as “just another part of “The Republican, Right Wing Conspiracy Theorists” efforts to slander Hillary.

Hi, gang. I’m back to spread a morsel of “love”, and a generous helping of doom ‘n gloom.

There is a theorem referred to as reductio ad Hilterum: just because Hitler had an idea, it wasn’t necessarily a bad one.

Granted, he had plenty of bad ideas. I only mention this in the contaxt of remarks by Boberin and the ubiquitous “everthink” yesterday: just because someone makes dire predictions on a regular basis, it doesn’t mean they won’t come true.

Nobody listens to me, and Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” affects me to tears every time I hear it.

I am in one of the least likely spots in the country to be touched by an act of terrorism. Like “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, methinks I doth protest too much at times, to mix a metaphor.

On the other hand, it’s not an odds play, i.e. if I keep saying something bad’s going to happen, the odds will catch up and something bad will happen. I don’t think anyone in America truly understands the temporal nature of today’s terrorism.

Senator McCain, who I’m still not voting for, said something the other day about staying in Iraq for the next hundred years if that what it takes to end the war in our favor. The point that’s being missed here, IMHO, is that Americans have grown fat and sassy because the current Republican administration has bought us seven years of time, and the terrorists will wait another 100 years if they can reproduce the coup of bringing down The World Trade Center.

When The Golden Gate gets splashed into San Francisco Bay, or Seattle gets nuked off the map, I may not sound so looney. I hope this won’t happen in my lifetime. Meanwhile, give yourself a dumb-slap like “Oh, I coulda had a V-8″, and watch the morning news. You can learn a lot by doing so.

  • 77 Libby Gone // Mar 7, 2008 at 1:53 pm

    possum,
It is just a matter of time. I personally believe the actions of the current administration have prevented such incidents from occurring inside our (porous) borders.
I also know that if it does occur under a future Democratic regime, blame will promptly and confidently be placed on President Bushs policies of 2000-2008.
wv: who Adolf, apparent wv is reading these posts!

  • 78 boberinyetagain // Mar 7, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Possum, you are still a favorite, doom and gloom or not.
Terrorists will do as they are able no matter what policy is in place and who placed it there.
We stand in horrifyingly long lines and all but strip naked to board a plane and these things do nothing whatever to make us safer, we just feel that way. Helpless is a bad way to feel an apparently we will stand for nearly anything.
If we can go to war and kill someone (it apparently doesn’t matter who) and we can have our phones tapped, our whereabouts monitored by our cell signals and street corner cameras, our EZ Passes in our cars, apparently we feel better.

vail colgate, are the toothpaste people branching out into skiing?
I don’t but most do, good for them.

Washington (IP) - In an effort to appease the fears of conservatives, presumptive nominee John McCain today announced that his choice of running mate will be made, not by him, but by the Delegates at the Convention in Denver. When reporters reminded him that Denver was the Democratic Convention, McCain explained that his running mate would be “whichever one — Hillary or Obama — the Democrats like less,” adding “That’ll show ‘em!”

    may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made
    and preserved us a nation!
    Then conquer we must,
When our cause it is just:
    And this be our motto:
    “In God is our trust!”
    And the Star-spangled Banner
    In triumph shall wave
O’er the Land of the Free

prettyold - 80 Just perfect, I’ve rd that verses 3 & 4 are forbidden in todays’s schools and with the video I just saw on this weeks amnesty bill I think it’s pretty obvious…..Great news! When the sailing ships of yesterday were first spotted on the horizon, it was the top of the mast that was first in view, now the entire ship is visible and preparing to dock. If this bill passes, the America we’ve known will cease to exist. All illegals will receive “temp” visas permanently renewable - no back taxes - eligible for the “tax-rebate” - and payments to Mexicans, in Mexico, to stay there - a halt to the border fence construction. And then, it got bad. A lot badder. (worse?)

Here is an interesting piece from The American Thinker, titled “Are Dems Headed For A Greek Tragedy?” , by Lifson & Baehr. It’s a bit lengthy (though worth the read); this snippet is from one of the last paragraphs.

The tragic flaw of the Democratic Party is the hubris that allows it to style itself as the only force interested in the welfare of minorities and the poor, and the only party committed to real democracy.

As the Greeks knew well, hubris is very often the herald of Nemesis .
