(2008-02-06) — President George Bush today intensified his push for the Senate to approve his $150 billion economic stimulus package because, the president said, “Hillary Clinton’s campaign staffers need those tax rebate checks pronto.”
The remarks come on the heels of news that Sen. Clinton recently loaned her campaign $5 million, and word that some top aides may now work without pay, while rival Barack Obama raked in $32 million in January.
In an impassioned plea to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, Mr. Bush said, “The thought that even one Clinton consultant might go to bed hungry, or have to start shopping at Wal-Mart, should be motivation enough for Sen. Reid to lead his colleagues toward rapid approval of the bill.”

cj & ola - I’m in favor of setting aside emotionalism, which the liberals are good at, in plucking people’s heartstrings and taking a close look at the oath a President takes at the Swearing in Ceremony (I won’t print it here - look it up like I did)
I look at the words of the oath and ask myself which one, taking that oath will most likely fulfill it.
Mitt Romney is the only one. ALL of the rest will by their past record be a prevaricator (liar). Sworn in to be the President of the United States and lying through their teeth with each word.
As Rush said, “Let the other side take the hit.” So, although I consider myself well to the right of Rush, Ann and Laura - if Romney isn’t there in November, I’ll vote for the Democrat this time, and as America is flushed into the sewer, the Democrats will be blamed.

Fred, I think you’re being too smart by half. I think Rush and other “conservative” pundits are being blinded by their own visceral hatred of McCain which has clouded their view of the bigger picture. You forget the liberal media is able and willing to turn a Democrat sow’s ear (no veiled allusion to sHrillary intended) into a silk person. Happens in socialist/collectivist regimes all the time. The people are starving and “its the new government program to better health through weight loss”. And in America’s case when people’s 401Ks and other “evil capitalist investment and retirement schemes” tank “it’s proof of how capitalism doesn’t work but now we have an egalitarian society where there is no difference between poor and middle-class.” Anything “private” will become evil and anything “government run” will be for the social good. It’s already happening.
Just look at how the liberal media touted Clinton’s “surplus” which was really a 2.8 trillion dollar deficit over eight years. Also the liberal media virtually ignored the fact there were three economic quarters in a row of recession in 2000 leading up to the Bush administration and they also ho-hummed the dot.com bust. You can bet the lap dogs in the media will cover for any Donk in office and whatever economic fallout happens will be BUSH’S FAULT. You see, even if another great depression occurs under sHrillary or Obama, the media will carry their water by saying its merely “an adjustment period as high-risk capitalist schemes are being phased out and fairer ‘progressive’ economic policies and national healthcare are being put in place.”
The media elites aren’t stupid and they have a huge ideological investment in the Democratic Party now, having carried their water since Gore was “cheated” in Florida. It’s all about the right spin … in their case, the left spin.

Wafting back to the Current Topic, Hillary certainly isn’t the first to inject personal funds into a Presidential campaign; one of Romney’s strengths has been has personal wealth, and past Campaigns have done the same.
Since the Primaries are Party elections, not “public” elections per se (that is, primary voters are not actually electing candidates but simply advising the Parties of their preferences), perhaps the time has come for Parties to take this responsibility back upon themselves and hold private “elections” (actual polls) among their members to select their Nominees, just as the “third parties” are already expected to do.
Under such a system, there would be little likelihood of “crossover voters,” as becoming a Party member (not just declaring affiliation) requires an actual commitment. It would also save both candidate and Party funds for the general election, and would at least help keep the Press from pushing Parties into backing untenable Candidates.
As Conservatives, we of all people should be ashamed to require the taxpayers of virtually every state to fund what is properly an internal Party expense for an internal Party process.

The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK “seems unavoidableâ€.
Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4’s World at One that the UK has to “face up to the fact†that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.
Dr Williams argues that adopting parts of Islamic Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion.
For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.
He says Muslims should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyaltyâ€.
In the past the Archbishop of Canterbury has proven himself to be a barking moonbat. The choice isn’t between “state loyalty” and “cultural loyality” but rather western civilization or Islamic barbarism.

I didn’t want to be the bearer of the sad news about Santini that Upnorthlurkin shared with me this morning.
Santini so much wanted to be with us at Face2Face ‘07, even calling to get further details. He explained at that time and in later emails his recently diagnosed health problem that might preclude the trip. I sent him a tee shirt afterward because he was certainly there in spirit.
Requiescat in pace, good buddy. You lighted up the room at ScrappleFace with your wit. Your infectious good humor and rapier insight always made us glad to have made your acquaintance via Scott’s board. You will be missed with deepest affection.

Red Pepper found the obit from the Sacramento Bee too. At Santini’s request memorial donations can be sent to the “So Others May Live” building fund at First Covenant Church. I have a mailing address and have talked to the church secretary and she assures me the man was as great as we all knew him to be. She also assured me the church would forward any and all correspondence we send their way. Interested parties can email me.

It gladdens my heart and brings peace to my soul when Ann, Rush and Laura are attacked! #1. They can “take it”. #2. Nobody tackles the guys that don’t have the ball. The more aggressive the fury and vitriol the better - they’re squirming and burning with the fire and fear of the exposure to which they are being subjected. The Bible speaks of evil loving darkness and abhorring the light. Ann, Rush and Laura and others such as Sean Hannity are engaged in the business of bringing sunshine to bear on the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates. - aka the liberal left - aka the mainstream media, etc., etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseatum.
btw - McCain is speeching on Fox News as I write - IF he follows through with what he’s promising, I will be tempted to vote for him. I will want to download and print the text of this speech - he’s sounding today like a Reagan Conservative and I must bear in mind that the great wonder of human beings is their ability to change. Mitt, as late as last night, was committed to staying in, but for the overall good of the Party, he changed his mind. It’s likely that McCain has moved heavily to the right. It will be up to us to hold him to what he said today.

I for one will write letters, each time he fails to measure up. I have found there is an inordinate level of attention paid to handwritten letters - especially those arriving at the White House. Secret Service weighs each and every word. Of course my letters are and will be the very quintessence of propriety.

Imagine how much the friends and family of our beloved Santini, grieve his absence, sharing in his everyday life as they did. I do in fact live in a wheelchair and deal with pancreatic cancer on a daily basis. I detect sarcasm in your tone, which is not unusual. I like to deploy sarcasm at appropriate moments.
This is not an appropriate moment. I’m in a mood to pick a fight, because I have no one left to vote for. Quibbling with a tiny-souled person like yourself would disrespect the memory of Kevin Corrington. I am stunned by his loss, and world is a diminished place today. We won’t play into that.
