MSNBC Inks Rosie O'Donnell for 'Life of the Network'

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 46 Comments

(2007-11-08) — In a major breakthrough, MSNBC announced it had signed comedian Rosie O’Donnell to create a talk show for the news network, and that the two parties agreed that her show will run “for as long as MSNBC shall continue operations.”

Talks had deadlocked when Ms. O’Donnell refused to sign a contract for longer than one year, but the network blinked and signed her “for the life of the network or one year, whichever comes first.”

“I’m delighted that I’m not tied down to a long-term commitment,” said Ms. O’Donnell, “and I can’t think of a more appropriate place to end my comedy career than at MSNBC.”

Ha ha! This is great. Poor Brian Williams and Tim Russert. Their credibility as serious newsmen has just been cut in half.

Oh, and May Americans return to honoring God, that He may bless this nation.

Darth, #52 (a couple threads back.) You said the Iraq war had currently cost 600 million dollars. I know that was just a typo and that you meant 600 billion dollars. As the Federal government spends something like 5.75 billion dollars a day 365 days a year, 600 million is literally pocket change.
I just wanted to point this out before Everthink saw it and went on another of his useless rants.

    Regards,

To all of you from a few threads back, thank you for your well-wishes and prayers. I’m getting the house in order and doing my Thanksgiving shopping so somebody else can do the dinner!! :-) Might go out for Thanksgiving Chinese?

Funny Scott but I fear that her “comedy career” ended some time back.

  • 8 charmingtail // Nov 8, 2007 at 8:29 am

    MSNBC is now the

    Ms. Neurotic Butch Channel

Well it was bound to happen…. the network had to balance out the host line up….the other hosts are dub butts…they needed a real Big Butt.

  • 9 camojack // Nov 8, 2007 at 8:40 am

    PMSNBC?

  • 11 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 8:54 am

Actually Rosie would make a great news anchor for MSNBC. C’mon Scott, at least give the lady … er, the persyn its due.

  • 12 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 8:57 am

600 BILLION it is. It was a slip of the pen keyboard. Now where’s that English Toffee latte?

  • 13 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 9:06 am

Speaking of latté, I wonder where Harry Lime is? Did he volunteer to be a human shield in Muslim lands troubled with violence? As we know there isn’t an age limit or physical to pass to be a human shield for peace.

Maybe Harry is serving as a human shield in Iraq and that’s why there isn’t a CIVIL WAR breaking out for the fourth time over there.

  • 14 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 9:07 am

    … push.

  • 15 Ms RightWing, Ink // Nov 8, 2007 at 9:37 am

Good morning c.a.t. ( and others ). My prayers are with ya. I was going to say that yesterday but I was whooped after manning the phones for 8 hours, calling to remind folks to vote for my friend who was running for judge. All-in-all I helped for 13 hours then my body died. When I left to catch the bus home at 10 p.m. the driver left without me, so I had to wheel (power) myself home in the freezing sleet. (can we get a collective sigh, thanks)

Funny you should mention Harry Lime, Darth, c.a.t. and I was talking about him on the phone the other day. We couldn’t remember his name. Thanks, I think

Darthmeister, before Neverthink graces our presence via your posts (which are like catnip to a Siamese kitty), I thought that I might point out something quite interesting and thought-provoking.

According to historical tables and present documentation, in 1957 - a date that I just pulled out of my hat - the percentage of outlay of the national budget was as follows:

    Defense = 59.3%
Human Resources (entitlements) = 23.7% Physical Resources (infrastructure) it was 6% Other functions = 9.4%.

Percentage of GDP was as follows:
    Defense = 10.1
    Human Resources = 4
    Physical Resources = 1
    Other functions = 1.6

    Now for 2007:
    Percentage of Outlay
    Defense = 20.5
    Human Resources = 63.2
    Physical Resources = 5.2
    Other functions = 5.4

    Percentage of GDP:
    Defense = 4.2
    Human Resources = 12.8
    Physical Resources = 1
    Other functions = 1.1

Now I looked up 1957 in my trusty little encyclopedia (actually I googled it) and found that the US was not in any kind of major conflict at all during this time. Yes, we were in the Cold War, but according to liberals that wasn’t a real phenomenom. However, we were spending over half of the budget on defense. Today, we are in a real war and we are spending only 1/5th of the budget on defense. Hmmm.

And on a second note: If one is to believe the liberal mantra about how bad things are for the little guy and how we have soup lines and on and on, the same mantra that has been chanted for the last 60 years, one must wonder how that can be so when the national budget has devoted 63% to entitlements (up from 24% in 1957). How can things be worse, when we are spending the majority of our budget giving things to people? What do they want? To spend the entire budget on giving things to people? Oh…no…nevermind. That’s like saying we won’t have to pay anymore taxes because they would just be giving them back. Like that’s gonna happen.

Actually Rosie would make a very good anchor… if MSNBC were a cruise ship, that is.

  • 18 conserve-a-tips // Nov 8, 2007 at 10:10 am

    pushing on through

  • 19 upnorthlurkin // Nov 8, 2007 at 10:18 am

Off topic but this photo of Michael Yon’s made my heart swell with joy and praise to God this morning! Can you say progress?!

    Just Ranting re#17

Not only hilarious but a good idea.

  • 21 Ms RightWing, Ink // Nov 8, 2007 at 11:27 am

Umm, I thought comedians were on strike, well at least their writers. If nobody can write humor for Rosie then all she can do is stare her ugliness at you through the bright glowing tube.

Now, I don’t care who you are, that’s scary

  • 22 Maggie // Nov 8, 2007 at 11:29 am

    Upnorthlurkin,

I’ll be flying out your way on Dec 15th to visit with my son in Minn. I’ll contact you by email to see if we can meet and talk over a cup of coffee. Lord wiling,I plan to return home on Jan 5th.

    Just Ranting…#17 is brilliant!

Fwiw, Rush has been referring to MSNBC as PMSNBC for years…

  • 26 conserve-a-tips // Nov 8, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Weeellllll….Scott….you have more fodder for your story. It seems that Rosie admits that she has a big mouth and that she blew her chances at PMSNBC. The deal is off. Don’t you know that Brian Williams and Tim Russert are breathing a sigh of relief?

  • 27 RedPepper // Nov 8, 2007 at 12:50 pm

c-a-t #26: Feh! You actually posted a link to Rosie’s blog?

This is probably a good time for me to go take a shower …

  • 28 conserve-a-tips // Nov 8, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Now, now, Redpepper. Sometimes you have to spy on the other side to see what they’re up to. If you feel that you must shower, just be sure that you use that new anti-cootie soap. Water just won’t do the job.

  • 29 gafisher // Nov 8, 2007 at 1:35 pm

After her “Life of the Network” gig runs out Rosie will be available for a Democrat “Life of the Party” spot. If this country really is blessed, that won’t be long either.

  • 30 EXT // Nov 8, 2007 at 1:40 pm

    Anchor?

    Fer a cruise ship?

    Hogwash.

    Never noticed that crap floats?

  • 31 gafisher // Nov 8, 2007 at 1:49 pm

Desperate times call for desperate measures. With the writers on strike, MSNBC needs someone like Rosie, an arguably human being with no connections to or dependence upon culture or literacy.

By the way, it appears the striking writers have done what no insane, hate-driven, drug-soaked band of anarchist wackos has accomplished before: they’ve stopped Jack Bauer.

  • 32 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 4:30 pm

#17 Just Ranting … the best post yet regarding Posie O’Donnell.

    Ring a ring a Rosie
    Pockets full of posies
Ashes, ashes we all fall down!

The Black Plague … er, White Zombie Plague she is but there are probably enough whackos out there to constitute a groupie following for Posie wherever she goes. I hear Beezelbub is one of her biggest fans.

I’m just glad you didn’t make the association between anchors and The Love Boat … yeeeeeeech!

  • 33 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 4:30 pm

…Rosie ate my post … and my homework!

  • 34 Darthmeister // Nov 8, 2007 at 4:40 pm

You know, when ya think about it, network television will be in a world of hurt when the Union of Canned Laughter goes on strike.

Has anyone else noticed if you “tune out” the laughter on the sitcoms and the late night talk shows the stuff they say isn’t really very funny most of the time?

Like they say, laughter is infectious and since Rosie is like a bad social disease, references to infectious laughter would be apropos as it relates to her daily rants!

  • 35 boberinyetagain // Nov 8, 2007 at 5:24 pm

Rosie is one wacky gal. Too bad, there was a time, way back when, that she was pretty funny. I guess her writers went on strike a long time ago.

Yhis is absolute proof that the folks at PMSNBC do not take themselves too seriously. I had to work, I wanted to be first to say that they now truly have earned the name PMSNBC and that Rosie would make a great anchor for an oceanliner.
Remember the maid on the Jetsons? Her name was Rosie too, funny thing is that the PMS Rosie reminds me a lot of the robot Rosie in both looks and inteligence !

  • 39 mindknumbed kid // Nov 8, 2007 at 7:14 pm

Heh, for you guys who get FoxSports SW, my niece’s football team is playing right now (she is does something with the team - don’t ask me what) and it is a really good high school game. 28-28 in the first half (second quarter). If you want to see some good Texas high school football, turn it on.

  • 44 everthink // Nov 9, 2007 at 2:05 am

    CAT,

1957? That was 50 years ago! Why not 1857, those numbers might serve your point better?

Bush has eight billion dollars missing that nobody can account for! “The Decider” better soon be “the explainer”, or he may one day become “the prisoner”.

“Executive privilege” will only work a little longer, you know?

His numbers are well into the “hard core”, and headed toward the “lemmings” part of his base at this writing, call out when you begin to hear a ringing in your ears, won’t you?

  • 45 gafisher // Nov 9, 2007 at 6:03 am
