Reid: Bush Must Halt Slaying of Terrorist Leaders

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 45 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2007-05-01) — As unconfirmed news broke that the chief of al-Qaeda in Iraq may have been killed in a battle with a rival terror group, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called on President George Bush to step in and halt the slaying of terror leaders.

“It’s a known fact that every time a terror leader is killed, another rises to take his place,” said Sen. Reid. “Therefore, the only way to stop the spawning of new terror leaders is to halt the slaying of the current ones.”

The Nevada Democrat said Mr. Bush should petition the United Nations to send in an unarmed peacekeeping force to protect the known terror leaders from accidental or intentional execution by Iraqi and U.S. forces, as well as by their own colleagues in the terror industry.

“If these guys keep getting knocked off,” Sen. Reid said, “how will we ever build relationships that lead to negotiations and peace treaties? The longer a terror leader stays at the helm, the more we can get to know him. When Democrats talk about bringing stability to the region, this is what we mean.”

Does Harry count as one of ‘em? I mean, really…it would explain why he’s against it, other than the obvious politically motivated reasons.

    Camo,
I think I heard somewhere that Harry Reid’s real name is “Hari abu-Ibn al-Reidi”… that would explain a lot.

I nominate Harry Reid to lead the U.N.’s unarmed expeditionary “Peacekeeping Force” He can be in charge of “building relationships” along with his “co-commander, Nancy Pelosi. They can set the pace and show us how it’s done.

Yes, how can you reason and appease Muslim “freedom fighters” if Bush is killing them?

Killing a jihadist is just like killing an innocent civilian. Killing is killing. And when jihadists kill innocent civilians its Bush’s fault.

  • 10 Shelly // May 1, 2007 at 8:28 am

Having watched a little more coverage of this, apparently the rival terror group is former insurgents who have tired of AQI’s brutal methods and are now fighting back. If true, how ironic that on the very day Bush vetoes the Democratic Surrender to all Terrorists bill an Iraqi has killed the leader of AQI. I guess this is the “civil war” Dems keep blathering about?

  • 11 boberinyetagain // May 1, 2007 at 8:41 am

Harry is wrong, the insurgency is obviously in it’s last throes (if you will) and victory is surely at hand.

George will be exhonorated, we may even erect a statue.
I have been proven wrong and am happy to admit it.
All is well, peace will reign for untold millennia.

I’m guessing it’s time to cancel that meeting that might have Condi somewhere near an Iranian, who needs that?

Maggie, I was at a friend’s home back in 1960s Texas and whenever his mom would get a new washer they would put the old one in their countrified junkyard in the back of the house. So essentially one would see a museum of old washers up to and including the latest from the 1940s which featured not just a handwringer but an electrified handwringer hung on the side of the tub. I didn’t know it at the time but it was plugged into an extension cord and when I asked my friend how it worked since it didn’t have a handle, he pushed my finger into it and then flipped the switch. Fortunately the springs on the pinch-rollers were fairly weak but it still nipped my fingers pretty good before I could yank them out. Couldn’t shoot my .22 Marlinâ„¢ rifle very well that day when we hunted the back 80. My fingers stung for several days.

Remember the politics of personal destruction engaged in by lefty bloggers and whispered by leading Democrats regarding investigations into alleged wrongdoing by Senator Frist? I sure do. Well, he’s been exonerated.

Don’t expect frontpage coverage by the lamestream media. Amazing how those on the left condemned the politics of personal destruction and then use it to their political advantage in order undermine Republicans. This issue was one of the reasons Frist quit the Senate. In the meantime we have people like William Jefferson (D-LA) and Harry Reid (D-Moon) who will get a pass from the media and their colleagues despite even greater evidence of political or criminal impropriety.

This is indeed bad news for “War Is Lost” Harry. It shouldn’t surprise us if Reid asks the Senate for a moment of silence “In honor of our friend, al-Masri, who lost his life in Iraq fighting bravely against the criminal occupiers who need to come home now.”

  • 24 Pros and Cons » Are our wars with Islamists and others, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq, breaking the army? // May 1, 2007 at 11:01 am

[...] If we do “break the army” (just because most predictions of same have been wrong doesn’t mean they will be forever), or otherwise lose, you can guess which of these opinions on the consequences I agree with. So does someone else who follows this stuff and another who happens to be on the ground. In fact, he has deep perspective on just how bad war can get (see also here and The Thunder Run, commenting thereon). Scott Ott’s take on Democrat “strategery” is pretty good - “‘If these guys keep getting knocked off,’ Sen. Reid said, ‘how will we ever build relationships that lead to negotiations and peace treaties? The longer a terror leader stays at the helm, the more we can get to know him. When Democrats talk about bringing stability to the region, this is what we mean.’”, and jibes with my own. [...]

I see where Pelosi has decided to read the surrender/pork/military funding bill before she signs it for presentation to President Bush. It should be very heartening to her constituents that she votes for (or even against, I guess) stuff she doesn’t read.

  • 27 Just Ranting // May 1, 2007 at 11:40 am

If a terrorist mastermind is killed in Iraq, and the MSM reports that it was done by another terrorist, does it still count?

If our troops restore order in 90% of Iraq, building schools and hospitals, and teach communities how to self govern and protect themselves, and the media fails to report it, does it still matter?

If brave entrepreneurial companies like Halliburton and such spend money rebuilding Iraqi infrastructure and educating workers, and the MSM fails to report the good, does it still make a difference?

It is time that other Fox News type media outlets begin to make headway in reporting the truth to America and the world. American’s and coalition partners are making a big difference in in the Middle East. It may take decades to complete because so much is now decentralized, but it will happen…if for no other reason than that people who once taste freedom will not give it away uncontested.

As per my comment #14 on the last thread, I reported at my VAT web site on April 21st that FORMER Iraqi insurgents had turned against al-Qaeda. (Scroll down to “Iraqi Tribal Chiefs Forming An Anti-Insurgent Party”). Scott’s second link says that Sheik Abdul-Sattar abu Risha claims his people killed as-Masri. Reid is truly a wonder to behold. Muslim extremists hate gambling, alcohol and prostitition. One would think his home state would be a prime target for their idea of “improvement”. Or is it because Nevada is home to so many sheep that he feels protected?

And who ever established that those “72 virgins” waiting for each jihadist are human virgins? Are there not traditions to be upheld?

  • 34 Darthmeister // May 1, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Ms RightWing, clothes wringers are indeed weapons of mass destruction.

It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for liberal Democrats to argue the existence of washing machines only creates more dirty laundry. Why else do dirty clothes pile up next to washing machines? And notice there is no end to dirty laundry! So clearly we have lost the war against dirty laundry. We must redeploy to the neighborhood dry cleaner … or start wearing smelly burqas.

    “Mission Accomplished”
Congressional leaders today proclaimed victory against the White House. Unlike the President’s quick military victory overthrowing Saddam, Congress struggled with a 4 year quagmire of “executive insurgent” resistance, but was proud to state that with the coalition of major media and a willing group of those “friendly” to dismantling our interests in a vital region, they had accomplished what they set out to do. That being: to absolve themselves from blame and to pave the road to appeasement to terror. They pledged to stand strong, leaning on the fearless John Edwards words “Dont give up the ship” or something like that - saying that the President’s veto power was like unto an act of terror as if they didn’t agree troops would starve in the field, though it would bring peace when they ran out of bullets.

Those old clothes wringers (aka “Mangles”) should be recycled!

They are (no joke) the most effective tool for getting the meat out of King Crab legs! Start from the tip and work toward the (former) point of attachment. The meat just sort of oozes out like toothpaste from a tube.

Caution: The old manual ones are safest; the juice from really good crab legs makes using the electric ones risky and they go too fast, sometimes crushing the meat.

These things are truly “Weapons of Crab Destruction” (WCD’s)

Oh yeah…PETA gets upset if you use these WCD’s on live crabs. Cook ‘em first!
