Iraq Terror Groups Offer Non-Binding Ceasefire

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 62 Comments

(2007-02-17) — A coalition of major terror groups operating in Iraq today announced a symbolic, non-binding ceasefire in response to House Democrats’ passage of a non-binding resolution rejecting President George Bush’s troop surge plan.

Al Qaeda in Iraq, the Shiite Mahdi army and representatives of a Sunni car-bomb cartel said they would continue to fully fund martyrdom operations, with help from their friends in Iran, Syria and elsewhere.

An unnamed spokesman for the terror coalition said, “The non-binding ceasefire serves as a kind of imaginary turning point in the mythical pursuit of peace among those who have pledged their lives to the destruction of the U.S., Christianity, Judaism and Western civilization in general.”

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, said the terrorists’ symbolic initiative “confirms that Democrats are on the right track with their strategy to end the war in Iraq through non-binding means.”

Meanwhile, the White House released a conciliatory statement from President George Bush in the wake of the Democrat-sponsored anti-surge resolution.

“Our friends in Congress continue to display the rich diversity of patriotism,” the president said. “Their actions demonstrate to all Americans that you, in fact, can support the troops while opposing the war, as long as you’re not too specific about whose troops you support.”

Mr. Bush also said the House vote “shows that it’s possible to pass a resolution without being overly resolute.”

I guess as long as Congress is wasting their time passing non-binding resolutions; their not inflicting harm with more useless laws and burdensome tax increases.

A coalition of terror groups dropped one of the biggest bombs in US history in Washington on Friday. Qaeda, MoveOn.org, and the DNC have assembled quite a coalition. The 17 “ĐŻepublicans” who joined them need to remember 2008 as the year they went home to spend more time with their families.

Just like their Muslim Palestinian cousins, eh? I wonder if “ceasefire” in Arabic means the same thing in English? Yassir Arafat was good at this kind of stuff.

More satire here that complements Scott Ott’s on-target story. Speaking from his cave, al Zawahiri adds his voice to that of the Democrats against the troop surge.

“as long as you’re not too specific about whose troops you support.”

Exactly. Call them stupid, call them failures, deny them equipment and reinforcements, but make sure you say that you support them first. Definitely a “diversity of patriotism.” Not to mention a big fat lie.

We don’t have enough to occupy our attention, what with binding and non-binding subjects - now NBC is reporting that Mr. Cecil Wilson (of The American Medical Association) is demanding a binding change in movies (including older classics like “Casablanca”) so that all movies that contain a scene that shows anyone smoking will be forced to display a “R” rating.

Beware - the Cigarette Police are on the march! Smuggle in and smoke all the pot you want, but light that tobacco filled cigarette and you’re in big trouble.

To a Democrat, and to a group of Republicans, non-binding is a beautiful thing; non-binding commitments, non-binding patriotism, non-binding beliefs, etc. Still have not heard any workable plan for Iraq from the Demmies, non-binding or otherwise, unless giving aid and comfort to our enemies by passing non-binding resolutions for surrender is considered a workable plan. Unfortunately the one thing that is binding is the Demmies themselves; we are stuck with them running the Congress for at least two years. That makes me feel a little, well, bound.

ATTENTION LIBERAL SOCIALISTS, THIS IS WHY SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM DOESN’T WORK IN THE LONG TERM:

Simon Romero reports in the New York Times about what happens when you combine price controls and the Dutch disease in Hugo Chavez-land:

Faced with an accelerating inflation rate and shortages of basic foods like beef, chicken and milk, President Hugo Chávez has threatened to jail grocery store owners and nationalize their businesses if they violate the country’s expanding price controls.

Food producers and economists say the measures announced late Thursday night, which include removing three zeroes from the denomination of Venezuela’s currency, are likely to backfire and generate even more acute shortages and higher prices for consumers. Inflation climbed to an annual rate of 18.4 percent a year in January, the highest in Latin America and far above the official target of 10 to 12 percent.

Mr. Chávez, whose leftist populism remains highly popular among Venezuela’s poor and working classes, seemed unfazed by criticism of his policies. Appearing live on national television, he called for the creation of “committees of social control,” essentially groups of his political supporters whose purpose would be to report on farmers, ranchers, supermarket owners and street vendors who circumvent the state’s effort to control food prices.

“It is surreal that we’ve arrived at a point where we are in danger of squandering a major oil boom,” said JosĂ© Guerra, a former chief of economic research at Venezuela’s central bank, who left Mr. Chavez’s government in 2004. “If the government insists on sticking to policies that are clearly failing, we may be headed down the road of Zimbabwe.”

From previous thead: “The important thing is socialism works in theory, not in practice.” But of course liberal socialists are so brilliant that they can make 2+2=3 … it works in theory!

Well, I just got back from an awesome morning/early afternoon at the foot of the great steps of our state capitol, where the Vets4Victory kicked off a Victory Rally that will hopefully continue across the nation. Our legislature - both houses - passed a binding resolution yesterday, on the heels of the Congress’s shameful show of cowardice, that declared our support for the troops and the war on terror and our commitment to see it finished to victory. Thousands of people were there and the speakers included Kevin Pannell, wounded Iraq war amputee, Major Ed Pulido, Wounded Iraq war veteran, Colonel John Reitzell (wow!!) Ranger and Special Ops veteran Vietnam, wounded, and Liet. Colonel Steve Russell, veteran of Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq and who led the hunt for Saddam. Also, our Congresswoman Mary Fallin spoke and shared the pain of what went on this week in Congress. If you weren’t fired up when you got there, there was no way you weren’t when you left. Amazing speeches and amazing crowd. It made you just ashamed of the pantywaists in Congress.

All y’all are ragin’ tonight. Cool, Great Santini. I’m getting out my sunglasses and rockin’ with ya.

I told you about the rally today. I left out something that Steve Russell said that I loved. He aimed it at Congress. He said that Congressmen/women saying that they support the troops, but not the President is like walking up to a corporate employee and punching him in the stomach while saying, “It’s nothing against you. I like you and support you. I just hate your boss.” Right.

I am astounded at the path that the democrats and some Republicans have taken. They have invested their entire futures in the defeat of our troops. They can’t stand the possibility that the troops would be victorious because it would make Bush look good and that might affect their precious power. And so they must undermine the effort in order to assure defeat. Sickening. Just sickening.
