Conyers’ Ethics Issues Make Him Ideal Judiciary Chair

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 64 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2007-01-01) — Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi today defended Rep. John Conyers, D-MI, as “the ideal pick for judiciary committee chairman” after the House Ethics Committee sanctioned Rep. Conyers for using taxpayer-funded staffers for political campaign work, babysitting and personal errands.

“I can think of no one better to head up oversight of the federal courts and law enforcement,” said Rep. Pelosi, “than a man like John Conyers who understands the subtleties of the law, the gray areas of ethics, and the potential for corruption even in the hearts and minds of those with legal training, who have sworn to uphold that law.”

“The country doesn’t need a naive neophyte,” she said, “but rather someone with demonstrated experience in pushing the ethical envelope, blurring the line, and in fact stepping over that line. Only a mind forged in the cauldron of ethical transgression will have the insight to spot opportunities for corruption in our judiciary system.”

Mrs. Pelosi, who has already said that impeaching President George Bush is “off the table”, nevertheless noted that if circumstances should change her mind, Rep. Conyers could “boldly lead the charge in drafting articles of impeachment thanks to his deep, personal understanding of what makes a politician unfit to serve.”

This only enhances Conyer’s resume among DemDonks.

But I wouldn’t doubt there is an evil Rovian plot behind all this to besmirch Conyer’s character with thinly-veiled frame jobs. But even then Mr. Conyer’s demonstrated his extraordinary character by actually taking blame for these ginned up “ethical lapses”! Now there’s a real man of integrity and conscience!

Hey, it’s a New Year with a worn out inner tube. I think when we get down the road of time all the Democratic tires will lose all their air, stale air at that.

Goodyear, nope bad year (for them)

God Bless the Americans and for all the rest of the people here, well go find your own blessings

More of the same by Pelosi and friends to help jade the opinions of us about Democrats and their ambitions. The media will never make mention of it. I’m just wondering how George Bush will be blamed for the winter storm last week while mentioning the number of dead in Iraq in the same sentence by our media moguls who are the watchdogs of democracy.

Well before the November election, throughout the time that Madame Peloser was strumpeting about the Republicans’ “culture of corruption”, the news was out there about Conyers’ lack of ethics, as well as Mollohan’s, and Murtha’s. The latter information went beyond his Abscam peccadillo. Like Pelosi, Murtha awards contracts on the nepotism criteria. Furthermore, the awarding of no-bid contracts after Katrina was an equal-opportunity for interests in both parties (which Malkin summarizes in a column with details). Ironically, several of the Dem-sponsored businesses had no experience in disaster clean up.

Nevertheless, the media had its collective eyes and ears shut and its curiosity dulled. These ethical abuses of power should have been put on the front pages for months in order that voters could thoughtfully determine that the bums to throw out belong to both parties. Unfortunately, some principled Republican candidates were sacrificed when the Lamestream media tarred a whole party with the “corruption brush”.

It’s going to be difficult to have a happy new year with self-righteous hypocrites at the helm in Congress. Save your leftover noisemakers to draw attention to Dem malfeasance so that the media have to abandon their boilerplate journalism and write more balanced headlines.

The proof of the pudding that it’s power politics all the time that motivates the Dhimmi-donks is the failure of their leaders and party representation to be present at the funeral of a former president.

I tuned into one of our local network affiliates last night to see the crazed mob at Times Square. The dingy lady closed her last minute tirade about 2006 ending the year of political corruption and rambled through the names of Republicans that all liberals despise.

I thought that to be the most disgusting media item of 2006. We as Americans tune in to that to see the New Year, not a political barf.

  • 14 antodav // Jan 1, 2007 at 1:51 pm

    Ms. Right Wing,

Dick Clark WAS on last night. He’s very weak and frail-sounding though, and was very stiff and hoarse when he was talking about the New Year. He just sat behind a desk and spoke the whole time, hardly moving at all. He was also wearing a LOT of makeup-he looked like he had been embalmed. I don’t think we’ll be seeing much more of him in the future.

Make it one of your New Year’s resolution to read John Stossel’s book, Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity. I didn’t think my respect for the lamestream media could go any lower.

Just reading how these information charlatans in the liberal media are making money off of misinforming the American public makes me sick. You might even find yourself more of a victim of journalistic hocus pocus than you originally thought, I know I did on a few issues.

    OLgA,

“The proof of the pudding that it’s power politics all the time that motivates the Dhimmi-donks is the failure of their leaders and party representation to be present at the funeral of a former president.” Comment by onlineanalyst — January 1, 2007 @ 11:45 am

Jimmy Carter may have been Gerald Ford’s closest friend in the later years of his life.

In 1999, President Bill Clinton awarded Ford the Presidential Medal of Freedom. “President Ford,” Clinton said, “represents what is best in public service, and what is best about America.”

Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said Ford “assumed office during one of the greatest times of challenge for our nation and provided Americans with the steady leadership and optimism that was his signature.”

Democratic Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, the incoming Senate majority leader, said Ford “was a devoted public servant who led our nation out of one of its darkest hours with grace and bipartisanship.”

Have you heard, or read Ford’s comments on Bush’s invasion of Iraq? How about what he thought of today’s Republican Party?

OLgA, clearly drugs and cognitive therapy have failed! Everthink, maybe you should dump Dr. Sanity, and consider surgery?

Have you heard, or read Ford’s comments on Bush’s invasion of Iraq? How about what he thought of today’s Republican Party?

You’ve just answered why the Donks were such great “friends” of Gerald Ford “in his latter life” despite the fact he pardoned Nixon, a man all liberals viscerally hated. Besides, as a blue-blood Republican, Ford was more like a left-of-center Democrat than he was a mainstream conservative Republican.

    RE: #41~~

Yes, there is planning underway(and federal money has been [and is being] spent formulating this plan-without congressional approval, by the way) for what is known as the “NAFTA Superhighway“.

Yes, foreign (one Spanish company) contractors and, yes, it is to be a toll road.

We had a candidate for governor last November whose platform contained a plank which was anti-”foreign-owned tollway.” She lost, of course-mostly, I believe, due to the behind-the-scenes and covert finagling which has kept this project almost secret from the taxpayers. The cost here in Texas alone is expected to be at least $150 Billion.

Among other things, this highway would eliminate United States ports of entry. The first customs check-point north of Mexico would be in Kansas City. I could go on and on about the negative aspects of this project; suffice it to say, I am vehemently against it on many levels.

Time for Dingy Harry, “Borat Hussein Osama,” Hitlery [cattle futures anyone?], Chuckie Schumer [Michael Steele's favorite privacy violator] and the gang to join in the fun. And, let’s not forget their great liberal icon, drunken murderer that he is, Ted Kennedy. He can be the Grand Marshall of the liberal loser “parade.” Culture of corruption = entire democrat party. The truth about global warming … the Sun is getting hotter!

Just like we’ve been saying to the environmentalist whack jobs all along, IT’S THE SUN! And some have theorized that since the atmosphere has less particulates due to western nations trying to be environmentally correct, this is allowing more solar energy to reach the ground and thus warm the Earth. Thus if environmentalist whackos are really serious about reversing global warming they should be advocating nations burning as much dirty coal as they can to shield the Earth’s surface from the Sun. That or put a giant Polaroidâ„¢ lens in orbit. Buwahahahahaha!

And though the ice sheets on Greenland are actually getting thicker, enviro-whackos whine about the circumfrence of Greenland’s icesheet getting smaller. Of course this all ignores why Greenland was named Greenland in the first place … the island was without the large icesheets when it was discovered by the Vikings who were also able to plant vineyards there! Greenland was actually, ta da, GREEN!

Of course the whackos will probably now try to connect-the-dots between more SUVs on the planet Earth and the Sun putting out more solar energy … not to mention global warming on Mars. Ooops, I just mentioned it. Doh!

My New Year’s resolution this year is to stay on-topic scrupulously, at all times, in all Scrapplefaceâ„¢ posts.

Did you see the Fiesta Bowl last night? If you didn’t, for shame; you missed the best football game of the last 20 years, intercollegiate or pro, maybe the best game ever. This gridiron epic featured the Boise State Broncos (David) against the heavily favored U. of Oklahoma Sooners (Goliath). No one who saw this ballgame will ever forget it.

Against all odds, David-showing true heart and desire-took a 28-10 lead into the 4th quarter, but blew it when Goliath tied the score. Then David went behind, 35-28, on a pass Goliath intercepted for a TD with 1:02 left in regulation time. On the ensuing drive, 4th-and-18 from about midfield, no timeouts left, the clock running, David throws the old hook-and-ladder (a sandlot play in which the QB throws to a receiver who then laterals to another receiver) and scores a TD with :07 left in the ballgame, tying it, 35-35.

In OT, Goliath scores a TD on a 25-yard run on its first play from scrimmage, plus a 1-point try, making the score 42-35. Overcoming 3rd-and-7 and 4th-and-3 down/distance challenges, David scores a TD on a halfback pass to the right, with the QB going in motion to the left before the snap, making the score 42-41, Goliath. Disdaining the 1-point try to tie the score in OT, David goes for 2 on the try-and wins, 43-42 (sorry, c-a-t)-on a fake pass right, Statue of Liberty run left. Game over, drive home safely.

Long after everyone has forgotten who won the vastly overhyped 2006 Rose Bowl (the hated USC Condoms turning the hapless U. of Michigan Wolverines into guava jelly [sorry, Marge & Beerme]), and long after the NFL has bored fans to tears with its yawn-inspiring, predictable playoff games, culminating in the Stupor Bore, real football fans will be reliving the 2006 Fiesta Bowl barnburner. Va-voom!

    Oh…. Was I off-topic? Never mind.
