(200-10-28) — The Bush administration today announced it would accept demands for a non-aggression pact with North Korea, adding only one condition-that the U.S. first initiates a pre-emptive “cleansing” effort in and around Pyongyang.
“It’s important that these talks begin with a clean slate,” said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. “We don’t want any of the baggage of historic mistrust to hinder these crucial negotiations.”
With that in mind, Mr. Fleischer said, “U.S. strategic and tactical forces and weaponry would tidy up a bit around the North Korea capital, several military bases, suspected missile sites and weapons laboratories, and anywhere anything green grows within the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
Pentagon officials said this would ensure that U.S. negotiators don’t have to worry about the DPRK’s honesty, and North Korean government officials can rest easy knowing they’re not hiding anything anymore.
“When we’re done,” said one military source, “They’ll be nothing large enough to hide anything behind or under…Then, we can talk.”
