(2002-10-27) — Microsoft Corporation announced today that its new MSN 8.0 service will block internet surfers from viewing the name of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, effectively eliminating access to Bloomberg.com.
Microsoft’s move comes in retaliation for New York’s slapping the company with a $50 fine for posting promotional decals at hundreds of locations around town.
Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer in a tersely worded news release said, “You wanna play rough with us Mr. Bloomberg, you’d better go talk to the U.S. Department of Justice first. Nobody, but nobody, hits Microsoft with a $50 fine. We’ll tie you up in court for years just trying to get Bloomberg.com back online.”
