Alito Confirmation Another Setback for Bush

(2006-01-14) — With confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito as the next Supreme Court justice all but assured, Democrats seized upon this “most recent failure of the Bush administration” as a likely springboard for their party’s electoral triumph in November.

This latest setback for President George Bush — coming on the heels of free and fair elections in Iraq, a growing economy, the first December budget surplus since 2002 and movement by Europe and Russia toward the original White House position on dealing with Iran’s nuclear ambitions — sets the stage for a Democrat return to power in Congress this year, according to many leading party insiders.

“We’ve got him on the ropes,” said one unnamed Democrat political strategist. “Alito’s confirmation could be the knockout punch. When Bush is flat on his back like this, it’s hard for Republican Congressional candidates to ride his coattails.”

A celebratory mood prevails from Democrat offices on Capitol Hill, to DNC headquarters, to MoveOn.org and The New York Times. Several political action groups said they would immediately launch multi-million dollar TV ad campaigns to capitalize on their political momentum.

“It’s the triumph of our progressive principles and ideals,” the source said. “We’ve got a beautiful feeling, everything’s going our way.”

  6. Yeah, Kennedy, Biden and Schumer showed Bu$Hitler than he can’t run roughshod over the American Constitution with his extreme reich-wing KKKonservative SCOTUS pick of Alito. Everyone knows that a centrist like Harry Bellafonte, Barbara Boxer or even a George Soros would have brought more balance to the court.

  7. As if all this wasn’t enough, in a couple of weeks poor President Bush will have to deliver a State of the Union address that is likely to be interrupted several times with applause and standing ovations. This guy can’t catch a break.

  8. Not to worry: Crusader Bill Clinton dons the armor for his own party to suggest that President Bush may have broken the law with the spying intercepts. Through ambiguous innuendo, Bubba provides another roadblock to truth by conveniently forgetting his own history with Carnivore and Echelon.

Would you please show the common courtesy to the humanity of Scrappleface by capitalizing the first words of your sentences. We all know your shift key works, as you use it for proper names.

Everyone who reads and writes the English language knows that each and every sentence starts with a capital letter. Please exhibit that you have grasped this basic rule.

According to Betty Buttermilk’s guide to old songs, the original words were all around the mulberry bush the monkey chased the weasel

This is because weasels were very excited when they found mulberrys, which in turn would cause the monkeys to rise up in anger and slay the weasels, whom always kept up on the left side of the bushes (Bushes).

Now this may be more than you wanted to know-but I felt it needed clarification.

  41. Off topic: From Iraqthemodel.com

“Meanwhile, there are some good news coming from Anbar.
Al-Qaeda is apparently being chased down and confronted by Iraqis in Anbar and Samarra according to a report from al-Sabah.
Mohammed al-Ubaidi is a citizen of Anbar who took part in a battle against al-Qaeda fighters said that people were enraged by the attacks that kill civilians in Anbar and other provinces and therefore have decided to form squads from the residents to rid Anbar from the foreign terrorists.
The reports mentions that several tribes’ sheikhs had a meeting in the home of a sheikh of the Dulaim tribe where they pledged to fight al-Qaeda and throw them out of the province. There are also news that some 120 al-Qaeda members have already fled outside Iraq after a series of battles between their cells and the residents of Ramadi and other towns and suburbs of Anbar.
According to the same report, similar measures are being taken by the residents in Samarra and have succeeded in forcing foreign terrorists out of their city.”

Sounds a little like Costner’s “Open Range.”

There are also a number of speculations on its origin. It is almost certainly from England, however, as the consensus is that “the Eagle” is a pub in London. The rhyme probably dates from the 17th or 18th century.”

Yes sir, those “weasels” are all over the map, and right now the Dem/Leftoid versions are hunkered in their bunkers, trying to look relevant in a world that doesn’t match their definition of reality.

I can remember listening to a lot of “pop” classics on our old Philco radio/record player as a child. In fact, that fine piece of furniture, I later learned, was the first piece that my newlywed parents had purchased for their home. Listening to those old 78 RPMs, I used to march around the dining table to a collection of armed services’ anthems as a youngster. I liked “The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers”, too. Kennedy swam to shore, pondering his political future, while she struggled for her life in the bottom of that submerged car. It’s probable that she breathed for a period of time in an air pocket before her lungs filled with water and she died a horrible death.”
