Medicare to Cover Starbucks Antioxidant Treatments

(2005-08-30) — In the wake of a new study showing that coffee is the largest source of healthful antioxidants in the American diet, the Bush administration today announced that Medicare will soon cover visits to Starbucks coffee clinics for “antioxidant treatments.”

Major insurance providers were expected to follow suit as the national healthcare focus turns from disease treatment to health promotion.

The White House news release said that “while the government program would pay up to 80 percent of the costs of barista-administered antioxidant treatments, home-brewed coffee will not qualify since its production cannot be regulated.”

Most researchers in the growing field of medical mocha consider over-the-counter ‘Mr. Coffee’ therapies to be experimental, and possibly dangerous.
