(2005-05-06) — British Prime Minister Tony Blair tried to sneak back into No. 10 Downing Street this afternoon to avoid embarrassing questions about his humiliating reelection to an unprecedented third term.
A spokesman said Mr. Blair would spend the evening phoning relatives to apologize for this latest in a series of shameful episodes in his disastrous political career.
The immensely unpopular prime minister is expected to immediately launch a barrage of domestic policy initiatives to distract public attention from his tragic election victory and from his support of the Iraq war, which illegally overthrew dictator Saddam Hussein and forced freedom on 25 million people.
Mr. Blair’s mentor and direct supervisor, U.S. President George Bush, said, “I’m praying for Prime Minister Blair and I hope my little buddy has hit bottom, and that things only get better from here on out. One day at a time, Tony…one day at a time.”
