Bush Sends Carter to Monitor Pope’s Peace

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · No Comments

(2005-04-08) — In an effort to atone for his failure to include former President Jimmy Carter in the official U.S. papal funeral delegation, President George Bush announced today that Mr. Carter would head a contingent of monitors tasked with assuring that the pope rests in peace.

“Although President Carter’s previous peacemaking and peacekeeping efforts may not have achieved the desired longterm results,” said White House spokesman Scott McClellan, “we believe he has a high probability of success given the pope’s current position.”

The White House also said it would reserve a seat on any future Air Force One flights to Vatican City funerals for Mr. Carter, “because he didn’t get to go to the two papal funerals which happened during his own presidency.”
