(2005-04-06) — Along the Texas border today volunteers with “Hombres del Minuto,” the Mexican version of the U.S. border-watching Minutemen Project, reported their first “score” to Mexican immigration officials.
“Hombres del Minuto think they spotted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay leading his family and several wealthy business associates south, through a low-lying gulch,” said an unnamed Mexican immigration official.
Rep. DeLay (R-TX) has recently faced allegations of influence peddling surrounding political junkets to London, Scotland and Russia, as well as questions about high salaries paid to his wife and daughter by a political action committee he started. Under U.S. law, members of Congress are ‘guilty upon accusation’ and required to resign from leadership when the media ‘drumbeat’ reaches a unspecified decibel level.
The Mexican source said, “Hombres del Minuto didn’t get a good look at him, so it could be any accusation-plagued politician. Shots were not fired.”
