(2005-03-30) — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich today filed a lawsuit against current House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-TX, contending that Mr. DeLay has infringed on Mr. Gingrich’s “brand and service marks by positioning himself as the number one target of the Democrat party.”
The suit comes after liberal groups announced they would run a series of TV ads in several Congressional districts in an attempt to associate local candidates with the accusation-plagued Mr. DeLay.
“I worked hard to establish myself as liberal-enemy number one,” said Mr. Gingrich. “If this Texas whippersnapper wants to stand in my shoes, he can pay the standard neo-Gingrich licensing fee.”
However, Mr. DeLay’s attorney said, “Mr. Gingrich doesn’t own the evil Republican niche. You can’t corner the market on being demonized by the left. Frankly, his day has come and gone. He’s lost his right-wing demon mojo. He’s an elder statesman now, and there’s no turning back.”
If the case goes to trial, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter may be called to offer expert testimony.
