(2005-03-26) — A new board game based on the popular Terri Schiavo legal dispute has become an overnight sensation — with a million editions of ‘Feeding Tube Frenzy’ sold in the first weekend.
The game features a series of trivia questions on philosophy, theology and American jurisprudence which players discuss and debate as a timer runs out inside a cute, life-like doll. Two teams compete over the status of a feeding tube which, if inserted in the doll’s abdomen, would ’save’ her so-called ‘life’.
“It’s really a cool game for the whole family,” said an unnamed spokesman for the manufacturer. “It allows ordinary Americans to participate vicariously in one of the big stories of our time, without actually getting involved.”
Although the spokesman admitted that the game might spark intense discussions, he said, “It’s still a lot of fun because we all know that it’s just a game. In the end, you put the doll in the box, put the box away and go on with your life.”
