Gunfire After Davis Recall Report 'Not Celebratory' by Scott Ott (2003-07-23) -- Staccato bursts of semi-automatic weapons fire which echoed around the streets of Los Angeles last night had nothing to do with the announcement that Gov. Gray Davis will face a recall election in the fall. Buy "Axis of Weasels," the first book by Scott Ott. $12.95 + S&H; Comments

Bang Bang, I'm first Posted by: Eric the Red at July 24, 2003 06:47 AMI just saw on Fox and Friends, the video from inside where Uday and Qusay were, and there was a Pepsi can on a table. How long do you think it will be until some ad exec comes up with, "Don't be a ruthless killer like Uday and Qusay, drink Coca-Cola!" P.S. I could have been first, but I was re-loading! Posted by: Ad Exec, Susan Serin-Done at July 24, 2003 07:05 AMBang Bang, I'm first Is the fact you are the first person to post to this story without even something constructive to say about the story supposed to make us give you respect or something? I say arnie for gov. Im just waiting until the constitution is amended so he can become pres too. Terminator for president. Lets see how many planes crash in to tall buildings then. You jsut so dont screw with an assasin cyborg. Posted by: greap at July 24, 2003 07:30 AMThis link, is to an editorial cartoon about the tragic deaths of the 'Hussein Boys'! I put it in here especially for Max, who is saddened by their untimely deaths! MUH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Click my name! If you dare! Posted by: Max's Lover, Bambi at July 24, 2003 07:55 AMI didn't take my vitamins yet this morning, so could you explain the cartoon. Is that supposed to be Saddam in a dress? Posted by: Ross at July 24, 2003 08:31 AMScott, keep this article handy. You may have to use it when the post-Davis CA constituional crisis arises. I'm lookin' forward to PhotoShopped pictures of the CA governor's mansion which shows the devastation after the National Guard evicts the ViceGov pretender. By the way, any news on the recall efforts in Cuba, Iran, and DPRK? Posted by: DougM at July 24, 2003 08:50 AMGreap, Furthermore, I think the Bang Bang addition was appropirate. I applaud those quick to be first, but who say something trite that is related to the story. Hey, posting "First" is a pleasant, if pointless, tradition. It gives you the same little lift as finding ten bucks in the pocket of the jacket you haven't worn in a while. And no harm done to other posters who may have actually read the Main Item and then cogitated long enough to compose a pithy response. You can't do that and post first - it's one or the other. Posted by: Ross at July 24, 2003 09:53 AMGreap, no offense but if Arnie S. wants to run for gov of CA fine, anyone can handle the situation there better than Davis. But if he's the best the GOP has to offer for president I'm moving to Guam. And IMHO, the constitution is best left the way it is. Posted by: Pooke, I was first once.. at July 24, 2003 10:17 AMRoss: You know there's no reason to be nasty - my Momma always told me, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". Just because one doesn't post first does not give you the right to pith all over their posts. And as far as that "cogitation" business is concerned, my Momma also taught me that there are certain things one should only do behind closed doors, thank you very much... Folks around here don't look kindly on that sort of thing. Sorry if I seem a bit testy, but the demands placed upon me by my dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity, combined with latent fear and aggression leave me little time to mince words. Posted by: Cassandra at July 24, 2003 10:19 AMOn a totally unrelated topic...Saw on Fox this morning that a recent poll in a German magazine that 1/3 of the Germans under 30 years of age believe that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks. Nice. My momma always said: If you can't say somthing nice about somebody, at least wait till they leave the room before you slam them. If the US was behind 9/11, why did one of the planes get delayed at the airport for 45 minutes before taking off? Couldn't the US government get the planes in the air at the same time to assue all targets were hit? Posted by: KJ at July 24, 2003 10:53 AMRoss? Hello...Ross???? Are you still there? (pssst: is it safe to pick on Ross yet, SRG?) Now I'm afraid to leave the room...they say payback is h*ll :) Posted by: Cassandra at July 24, 2003 11:00 AMCassandra, You are my hero... errr... heroine. Mostly for the drug-like haze induced by an oxygen shortage to the brain due to excessive laughter. 1/3 of any population under 30 is under the influence at any given time and 1/10 can't spell their own name. Is this any surprise? Posted by: Fr. guido Sarducci at July 24, 2003 11:01 AMCassandra
MAKE GRAY DAVIS FINISH HIS SENTENCE. Posted by: aNarchISt at July 24, 2003 03:21 PMAu contraire, the only way to get Californians to stop electing Democrats is for the most conservative Republicans in California to GET A CLUE and realize they can't win statewide office here, and stop blindingly voting for the most conservative choice they can, no matter how droolingly ignorant he may be (Simon) -- especially when provided with an electable alternative (Riordan). If it were up to me, I'd lock Shawn Steel in a classroom and make him write "I will not sabatoge electable moderate candidates in the primary election" about 1,000,000 times on a blackboard. Posted by: Sean at July 24, 2003 06:27 PMHmmmm.....Coca-Cola. Posted by: Homer Simpson at July 24, 2003 09:44 PMPepsi----------EX-CELL-ANT!!! Posted by: C. Montgomery Burns at July 25, 2003 01:36 AMto be or not to be: SOBE.... The Few, The Proud, The Lizards Have Lizard, Will Travel Posted by: Pinball Lizard at July 25, 2003 02:00 AMSean, It also doesn't help when you have Davis spending over $10,000,000 of his own election campaign money to sabotage Riordan in the primary election. That way, he was able to game the system and run against the Republican he felt he had the best chance against. Posted by: David at July 25, 2003 05:57 AMI bring up that exact point myself everytime somebody makes the argument that recalling Davis somehow violates the democratic process. I don't see how recalling him violates the process any more than Davis's tinkering with the Republican Primary campaign (especially since both actions are perfectly legal). btw: remember when Davis was running in the '98 primary against Al Chechi? Remember when CHECHI spent $10 million in the primary? At the time, Davis wouldn't stop whining about how it was the largest ad buy in primary election history, even though Chechi, at least, was running against actual primary opponents. Posted by: Sean at July 25, 2003 12:19 PMNot to mention that the recall process is spelled out in the California Constitution. TRUE conservatism can win in CA. Saint Ron proved it. Many conservative sponsored initiatives have been wildly successful in the past decade. The adoptation of Buchanon like jingoism (let's blame the illegals for everything)has pushed the moderates to the democrats and made REPUBLICANS unelectable. PS. Riordan allowed himself to be "gamed" out of the election? Then he's an amatuer. First of all, Reagan was Governor of California almost 30 YEARS AGO. California was a much different (& less liberal) state than it is today. Second, are you aware that Reagan raised the sales tax 50% while Governor, or that he signed into law what was at the time the most liberal pro-choice law in the nation (that's pro-choice on ABORTION mind you, not school choice)? In other words, if Reagan were to run for Governor today (and adhered to the same views) he would have been '86ed in the primary by a Republican party eager to nominate the nearest loser willing to whisper sweet conservative talking points into their ear. Finally, California's "Open Primary" law is finished. Republicans vote for Republican candidates (although "Decline to State"ers can select which party's ballot they want on the day of the primary). Davis didn't get Democrats to vote in the Republican Primary, but he spent an insane boatload of money to convince Republican voters that Riordan wasn't conservative enough for them. As I've said before, the fact that Republican voters bought the transparent bait and switch says more about the average activist in the California Republican party than it does about Riordan. |
