CBS Offers to Create News Division for Pfc. Lynch
by Scott Ott

(2003-06-17) -- Executives at CBS television, a division of Viacom, told Pfc. Jessica Lynch that if she will sign an entertainment contract with them, they will create a news division just to cover her story.

A copy of a confidential CBS proposal to Pfc. Lynch says, "Your story is so compelling, it deserves more than a movie, an MTV special, and a line of action figures with combat gear and strapless evening wear. Your story deserves factual coverage like you would get from old-fashioned journalists."

The proposal goes on to envision a group of reporters who interview sources and write factual accounts of events for later broadcast.

"We've been meaning to do something like this for years," the letter states. "We have heard that viewers are interested in knowing what is really happening in the world. Your situation, Jessica, has been the catalyst for what may be a revolution in TV -- broadcast news."

Well Slather me with Peanut Oil and call me Goober. I am third. Well second if you count the fact that one attention hog posted twice.

YEEE HAAA. Jessie's coming home soon!
Oh Boy!Oh boy! Can't wait to tell the dog!

We get our own movie and we'll have our own action figures and have our images as patches on combat gear.....and oh BOY! oh BOY...oh BOY. From now on now more bargain bin catnip either.

We're RICH! We're RICH.

CBS and the rest: Don't MESS with the "Palestinian" [West VA] Lynches!

(Wait till ya see what we're gonna do to the CBS studio floors! hehehehehe)

Pa Lynch said that Jessie would be accompanied to any and all news interviews with some of those same (armed)marines that rescued her. They'll have their guns pointed at any reporters who could by a slip of the tongue turn triumph into tripe and take the story down a road it's not intended to go!

From Washington Post
Dana Priest, William Booth and Susan Schmidt
Tuesday, June 17, 2003;

"She was fighting to the death," one of the officials was quoted as saying. "She did not want to be taken alive."[...]

Initial news reports, including those in The Washington Post, which cited unnamed U.S. officials with access to intelligence reports, described Lynch emptying her M-16 into Iraqi soldiers.[...]

The intelligence reports from intercepts and Iraqi informants said that Lynch fought fiercely, was stabbed and shot multiple times, and that she killed several of her assailants.[...]

It became the story of the war, boosting morale at home and among the troops. It was irresistible and cinematic, the maintenance clerk turned woman-warrior from the hollows of West Virginia who just wouldn't quit. Hollywood promised to make a movie and the media, too, were hungry for heroes.[...]

Lynch's story is far more complex and different than those initial reports. [...]

The Post's initial coverage attracted widespread criticism because many of the sources were unnamed and because the accounts were soon contradicted by other military officials.[...]

The result is a second, more thorough but inconclusive cut at history. [...]

Lynch tried to fire her weapon, but it jammed, according to military officials familiar with the Army investigation. She did not kill any Iraqis. She was neither shot nor stabbed, they said. [...]

Got milk?

(this here is my post. Is it not nifty? Worship the post)

Posted by: some random guy at June 17, 2003 11:39 AM

Yes, she was patriotic and joined the army(very commendable), but reports now indicate that she sustained most of her injuries during the HmVEE wreck at the onset of the ambush. She did not hold off her attackers Rambo-style as a one woman army. Instead, she was unconscious through no fault of her own. Shouldn't CBS look elsewhere for a story. Find a real hero. Do not make her into a flase one just because she is a female. Either treat all who served as heroes or recognize thise commended for bravery, but do not raise her up on a pedestal just because she is a woman.

Frenchman:

Why does this surprise you? You have pointed out the obvious - it is SO stupid to take the original account of any news story as fact - it is almost invariably later proven wrong in at least one respect. And who does this?

THE MEDIA. They are in such a hurry to get the scoop (I always thought that was appropriate considering the quality of the first to break a story) that the "facts" are unverified. The "truth" becomes a product marketed to a sensation-seeking public - the more emotional, the better.

Whenever a story like this breaks, the military always says "No comment" or "It's still under investigations". The media report anyway, then go back and blame the military when their original story proves inaccurate.

When 9.11 happened, I was standing in my office on the 9th floor in McLean VA. We could see the smoke plume over the Pentagon and planes circling overhead. The guy on the radio was yelling, "Oh my God - there are more planes circling the Pentagon - they're going to crash into it again!" My husband was inside the Pentagon, just around the corner from where the plane hit. I had just called him a few minutes before the crash to tell him about the 1st plane hitting the WTC.

We watched with the radio on for a few minutes, then I left the room and went back to work - they weren't reporting news - they were speculating and literally made things up to fill air time. They didn't care what rumors they spread - they just wanted to keep you glued to their station.

No thanks - I am happy to wait until the facts are in.

Posted by: Cassandra at June 17, 2003 11:50 AM

Indeed the TRUE story should be told without media hype & jive. And nothing would be more gratifying than for her to have recall of the events (peacefully) and very decisively and forthrightly respond to any media questions with many "no--it didn't actually happen that way" when they start their sensationalistic garbage.

I get the feeling the Lynches are JUST such a family. They're not interested in the "new unrealistic reality show!". Go get em', Jessie. Jessie's no media hog! She'll sincerely honor her comrades.

As I can confidently speak for me AND da' dog! We can't wait for you to get home! I think dog's at the groomers now...so I'll call there and tell her in case she hasn't heard the news!

Posted by: Happy LFC-Cuz Jessie's comin' home soon! at June 17, 2003 11:52 AM

Frenchman, Jessica Lynch has more courage than any frenchie ever had even if she was injured in a HunVee wreck, it was under fire. I'll bet you would just sh-- in your pants if some one was shooting at you!!!

Frenchman, scouring the WAPO? Didn't know you were so interested in American News or Jessica Lynch. Shouldn't you be reading Le Monde?

I dunno. No weapons of mass destruction yet, an Iraqi public that's already tired of us being there, lies spread by the administration about what intelligence they did or didn't have, trumped up stories about having to storm the hospital where Pvt. Lynch was being mistreated, when in actuality, the doctors had been trying to get her back to the U.S. troops out of concern for her safety. I smell vermin.

I arrived exactly now. Why is there everyone who stands in my rear? ¶ )

Posted by: LilKimIl at June 17, 2003 07:21 PM

gabsboy's post reminded me of the news story I read today about the Iraqi man who recently came out of the little "refuge" he had built in his momma's home underneath her bed in hiding from Saddam and Company. TWENTY TWO freakin YEARS he lived there!!!!!!. I'll link the article to my name.

Another testimony to how someone over re-acted to good ole SoDarn Insane who was really a falsely accused & benign dictator. Just a regular ole "Mr. Rogers of Iraq"....

Mr. Woodstock Willie.

I took the requisite one step forward and stubbed my toe on my desk. Its all your fault.

Do I get a Croix de Guerre?

...or just a t-shirt?

Posted by: Frenchman at June 18, 2003 03:01 AM

I, too, stood up, and scrapped my nose on the wall! Is there an attorney in the house, so I may sue Mr. Woodstock?

Please believe, I need one!

Posted by: Frenchman at June 18, 2003 07:55 AM

Dear Bobby,

I hope that you are well.

Did you try to find possible links between Hamas and Israel ?

Is your bridge still under threat of international terrorists ?

What do you mean exactly by "I love how you're command of the English language fluctuates from thread to thread." ?

Cordialement

Frenchman #1: You get a t-shirt that says "I'm with stoopid!" and points to Chirac.

Frenchman #2: You "scrapped your face"? How do you scrap your face? And what do you have on the front of your head now that you have "scrapped your face"?

Lin: I didn't see any praise of any make believe cowboy. Would that be like Ragtime Cowboy Joe?

Posted by: Woodstock Willie at June 18, 2003 06:41 PM

Why don't the commentators, detractors, protestors, and yahoos of all descriptions shut the hell up, and let Pfc. Lynch tell what she can recall when she's darned well good and ready!

First the media (based on their own theories) sets her up as a hero: a homespun Rambo in a gingham dress.
Now they are saying it was all a sham publicity stunt by the military. Get a grip. Pull your head out of your a**. Let the girl alone.

Sorry lin, I forgot that you have to explain things to Dimocrats, thousands of times before it sinks in. I will try to go slow, as to not confuse you more than you already are.

This is not a forum, it is a Conservative satire site. It is MOSTLY Conservatives! They have satire sites for left wing DIMOCRATS also! They just aren't very funny! Maybe you would feel more comfortable there, as you don't seem to grasp the SATIRE concept!
