New War Show Lets Audience Call Shots

(2003-03-27) -- When it comes to military strategy, studies show that the average TV viewer knows more than the best commanders in the field. That's why network executives are so excited about the potential for "The War Show."

The new multi-hour daily drama 'virtually embeds' TV viewers in military units in the field. Equipped with nothing more than satellite TV, a chalk board and a cell phone, the randomly-selected TV viewers will command legions of troops in battle against the enemy.

"We know this show will be a ratings hit," said an unnamed network spokesman. "Our only concern is that with ordinary TV viewers calling the shots, the war will be over too soon."

The War Show's producers acknowledge they may "throw a few curves" to make the show last longer. For example, "we may provide the enemy with detailed information about strategy, timing and troop movements, just to make it interesting."

"All Right! I knew watchin' CNN's unbiased broadcasting of the war would prepare me for this honor." said Randolph Jones, first embedded viewer. "Now we'll see this thing run the right way."
Unfortunately, seconds after making that statement, Mr. Jones was mortally wounded by an Iraqi sniper.

A coalition soldier said "I told that moron to keep down."

And our next winner is...

P.S. Did you see what some patriotic hackers did?

Posted by: Okie Dokie at March 28, 2003 01:09 AM

Reuters 28 March 2003

Western war correspondents from ABC, CNN, the BBC, Reuters, the New York Times and the Washington Post have begun surrender negotiations with Iraqi officials today since the war has lasted one week. There are also unsubstantiated reports that the French are also requesting an opportunity to become involved in these discussions as they do not want to be left out of any possible surrenders.
Not all journalists are enthusiastically anticipating captivity. When informed that she would be required to wear a burqa while hosting the wildly popular Iraqi hit "Fedayeen Martyr", a reality-based star search program in which determined boy-band contestants demonstrate their vocal talents, hope to secure a lucrative recording contract and then attack an M1A2 Abrams battle tank with guitars and amps, Katie Couric emoted a pathos not seen since her "slow news day" story of sports bras. She tersely stated, "I'm not wearing that. Look I ain't Saddam's..." Peter Jennings dismissed Couric's hystrionics as "intolerant" and "devisive" during a period when "journalists need time to heal."

Amusing to think of who the sponsers for this would be... and so many stars that would be willing to be the longwinded spokes people on the long commercial breaks....
(too bad it isn't just makeup that needs to be adjusted in between shots)

Reuters 28 March 2003

Surrender negotiations have become bogged down in a quagmire between western journalists and Iraqi military officials a senior Iraqi government spokesman embedded in Tom Daschle said today.
A major source of contention has been the correspondents' insistance that Iraqi authorities recount the 2000 Presidential Election returns. Remarked an unnamed Iraqi official who goes by the name Saddam Hussein, "No wonder your country is so fuqed. The only thing we stuff into boxes around here are Shiites."
In additional war news. Iraqi troops have fought coalition aggressors to a standstill, allowing massive columns of armour and troops to only travel 300 kms in two days and establish positions less than fifty miles outside Baghdad. Senior Iraqi military planners stated confidently that this was to allow the American imperialists to expose themselves to precision guided munitions guided by Russian provided GPS equipment. Then an a$$hole from FoxNews inquired if these were similarly "ineffective" as the Russian provided GPS Scrambling devices destroyed by American bombs several days ago. He was shouted down by the press corps. As of today coalition "forces" have killed over 1.3 trillion Iraqi civilians, obliterated 500,000 day-care centers, euthanized over 1,000,000 really cute puppies, bombed a hospital and seized a teddy bear factory "suspected" of containing "weapons of mass destruction".

I think I would rather see, "Get me out of here, I'm a celebrity 2", send celebs, (chosen by an 800 number poll), to the front, armed only with a swiss Army knife! The celebs for the first week are:

Martin Sheen, Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Dixie Chicks, Joan and Mellisa Rivers, (who ARE women), and Special Guest Celeb Jesse Jackson.

Okie Dokie. What those hackers did was, too cool, thanks!

I saw yesterday and I say it's one of the best things I've seen for a while. I hope it portends a WAVE of these types of patriotic wins against this really indefensible bias that's going on in the media.

Image a filthy rich movie star, with no greater care in the world than when her pedicure is befor the acadamy awards show. Her heartfelt "peace sign" made SUCH a difference in the reality of this war. After all, SHE knows every detail in Sadaam's abuse of power, including rape, murder, torture.... I'm sure she knows the details learned at Bush's intelligence briefings, including knowledge of biological weapons in Iraq. I'm sure that SHE had a mother or son lost in 9-11. You would think she had sympathy or support for THIS country that she thrives millions off of while our soldiers are over there risking their lives to make sure HER son isn't the next 9-11 type victim. You WOULD think she knew what she was supporting right? Did you see how she strutted across the stage with her peace sign and was applauded as if she were fighting a war for freedom? God these liberalists must have smoked too much MaryJane in their day. The stupidity is overwhelming. I will never see a movie of hers again. comments?

Posted by: AHA at March 28, 2003 11:14 AM

AHA- just came from MSN main page, heres how they reported it: Hackers deface website! Deface! This just goes to show the DEPTH of IGNORANCE that mires the media.

As far as the entertainment industry goes, since when did this country start taking it's moral & ethical views on ANYTHING, from a bunch of; quite possibly the LEAST in-touch-with-reality based individuals on the planet??!!

After this is done, let's have the boys do a fly over Hollywood. Perhaps just a strffing of the sign atop the Holly wood hills, for effect. Maybe the "stars"will all run to France for protection!

Posted by: mike at March 28, 2003 12:28 PM

I knew that there were some patriotic hackers out there. They shouldn't say that they defaced the website, they just added some much needed color to it (especially the colors red, white and blue!). The media should concentrate on the defacing of the news that al-liarjeezra does. We should show them up for posting all those pictures of our serviceman/women (I kind-a hope that the military or the NSA are behind it, wouldn't that be great?).

We need to take all these arm-chair generals, media and others, make them into a combat unit and send them to the front lines. They could be given the utmost important role of flushing out the enemy by stumbling on their positions. Always try to get 2 birds with one stone while losing less troops on your side!

Posted by: Justin at March 28, 2003 12:50 PM

I always watch the Fox News Channel, because they're unbiased.

I hate Al-liarjeezra.

I support the war 100 percent.

AHA,

I don't know which actress it was either. It could have been any of those airheads. Boycott all of them. Except for Bruce Willis. He is the only one I have seen lately with any b[rass].

Do we really want Michael Moore breaking wind? talk about your weapons of mass destruction.

Posted by: BigDope at March 28, 2003 01:14 PM

Anybody see Rummy's press briefing this afternoon? He took the wind out of a few reporter's sails, alright. About time.

I think the liberal, biased, LYING, press are now going to be feeling a vicious backlash the kind that France, the Dixie Chicks and other booberheads have experienced.

I officially support the person or persons that placed the patriotic image on al-jazeera's web site.

Posted by: AHA at March 28, 2003 04:05 PM

Right on AHA! The flag wrapped USA was a cool trick. I did see Rummy boink a few press schmucks! Ha ha ha! When repeatedly asked if the US had overstated or optimistically assumed that more Iraqui citizens wanted to be liberated than there really were, he answered, and I quote, "Why would we try to answer that question now, when we can wait two or three days and the embedded media can just show us the answer!" He also said the question would have no relevance 30 days from now - Rummy is such a realist - zzebu like realist!!

Posted by: zzebu at March 28, 2003 04:35 PM

You either love Rummy or hate him. I just like to see someone who actually speaks his mind and puts morons in their place. I like Powell, but he is way to PC/diplomatic (he should take some lessons from his rival, rummy).
anyway, GO RUMMY, GO USMC, GO ARMY, GO USAF Kick some butt and come home safe.

Posted by: Justin at March 28, 2003 04:54 PM

To AHA, and Harden. The actress Kae was talking about was Susan Sarandon, (NOT to be confused with me!). She is the tramp, (Scott, I hope this is not an obscene word, because it is accurate),that has been living with, lover Tim Robbins, for years, and has children born out of wedlock. (We know what those are called, don't we?). P.S. This alone would not be reason to hate her, but her disrespect for Our Brave Troops, and Our President, makes me mad enough to let the Devil rise a little,---------SORRY!!!

Posted by: wizegoi at March 28, 2003 11:09 PM

Tim Robbins is Susan Sarandons' lover? I always thought that he was there to carry her purse. Amazing what you learn at a website like this!

Also, don't forget to support James Woods. He has been very supportive of the need for this war.

Somebody should compile two lists: one composed of pro-war actors and one composed of anti-war actors.

Posted by: Sean at March 29, 2003 12:56 PM

I can't wait to watch the Celebrites At Front !

If the Republican Guard can hide behind women and kids... why not have our Militay hiding behind the celebrities... there is an "overpopulation" of them at the present anyway... I'm sure that would increase the ratings. I'd love to see a few subtitle episodes: Bab's Bleeding Heart, Shaun Feels the Pain, and Michael Moore Gasses the Foe, West Wing in Protective Gear...

Posted by: Phrog Poet at March 29, 2003 03:06 PM

I'd follow Mike Moore into combat any day!

Posted by: greyhawk at March 29, 2003 03:36 PM

But some governments will be timid in the face of terror.
And make no mistake
about it:

If they do not act,

America will.

Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening
America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction.

And all nations
should know:

America will do what is necessary to ensure our nation's security.

We'll be deliberate, yet time is not on our side.
I will not wait on events, while dangers gather.
I will not stand by,
as peril draws closer and closer.
The United States of America will not permit the world's most dangerous regimes
to threaten us with the world's most destructive weapons.

"I'd follow Mike Moore into combat any day!"
Gee greyhawk that's a pretty safe bet isn't it? Like, what century could that happen? Only if they make "all you can eat" buffet lines illegal, would MM go into combat! Other than that, let's list him in the "chronic complainer" column along with all the other liberals. Some people (like MM) go out of their way to take up any opposing position, just to have a position...

Has anybody noticed how much Chiraq and the Canadian Prime Minister, (sorry, great white north-ites, his goofy name eludes me at present), look alike? The only thing is, the Canadian guy looks like he can only talk out of one side of his mouth. Maybe he should do what the Chiraq Muppet does, put his head on a, east to west swivel, so everyone in the room can see his lips move!

Guess my comment was kinda vague. I was just calculating the reduction in the odds of me taking a round if Jabba the Hut was in front of me. I'm not being cruel either. I doubt the enemy has a round capable of penetrating the fat layer to a depth sufficient to cause harm to vitals. "Follow" was the key word. ;>)
Of course, you are right too. Though I'm sure anyone following Moore in an attack on a food bar would certainly come away food stained but hungry. None but the brave...

Channel surfing last night - saw a few minutes of that new Bill Mahr show on HBO - panel included Jeaneane Garafolo and two guys.

They discussed the Dixie Chicks situation vis a vis the backlash the anti-war (read Bush) protesters have suffered. Jeaneane was complaining about how unfair it was that pro-war (read Bush) were protesting against the anti-war (read Bush) protesters. She said "the pro-crowd didn't see that (by protesting the anti-crowd) they were not living by the tenets of democracy, which allows free speech."

One guy on the panel (obviously pro-) kept saying to her, why do you think the right to free speech belongs only to you? You are free to say what you want, and others are free to say what THEY want. She just kept saying its not democratic... She was really CONFUSED by the assertion that the pro- camp had as much right to denigrate her and her cronies as she did to denigrate our side and our leaders.

The pro- guy said to her, "of COURSE anyone can say what they want, but this isn't a vacuum - you were are not granted immunity from any and all consequences or reactions to what you said..." She was unable to digest tht statement. She completely didn't get it.

That was such a stunningly clear illustration of the anti- point of view. Of course, without a logical argument, she finally was reduced to insulting Fox News anchors and saying people boycotting Dixie Chicks products were using CD smashing events as a way for one redneck to meet other rednecks and inbreed...blah blah blah ---

Classic progression of left-wing eejit defense!

PS The fact that they are still talking about the DC's tells me that the DCs are still feeling the pinch of disapproval from patriotic Americans. Good!

Posted by: AHA at March 30, 2003 08:29 AM

yep AHA,

By definition, Insanity can never be understood from within it. It's the big problem the Left just can't seem to get around. Truth is such a stubborn thing.

I'll get a ration of chitt for saying this.. I know (from experience...) but deal with it... If you can get to the crux you'll see it : Insanity is Loving Sin... and the ultimite sin is un-belief in truth. (Don't make the mistake of thinking that means religious persuation and zing out into the ether... there IS a truth. Always! )

Please Believe. ;-)

Posted by: Phrog Poet at March 30, 2003 02:55 PM

To AHA, and PHROG. Nail on the head guys. 'Land Whale' Moore stated, (and actually believes), "--the majority of Americans agree (about Bush) with me!". The only thing these people, (Moore, God-awful-ho), are going to understand is when the money stops coming in! GET IT PEOPLE? I was shocked to hear, Mel Gibson's production company has made Moore, an almost 7 figure offer to produce a Moore project about, links between bin Laden and Bush 41, (or so the blimp claims). I thought Gibson better than that!

Posted by: Susan Serin-Done at March 30, 2003 08:52 PM

That's IT! Gibson's out on his a$$ with Maines, Garafolo, Sarandon, Robbins. Ledger, and all the rest of the rabble. Not a single dollar of mine will they get. Neither do I buy Yoplait yogurt or Evian water or any other products that I know are German or French.

Box office revenues were reported to be down 24% as compared to this time last year. The downturn was attributed to the war. I, however, think it just might be because the sane majority is voting with their wallets and purses. Has anyone investigated that possibility? Hmmmmm.

Posted by: AHA at March 30, 2003 09:04 PM

I agree AHA. I have heard about some of the French companies, but does anyone know of a list of German companies? I heard that Dannon, and Michelin Tires are French companies. Does anyone know for sure?

Posted by: Susan Serin-Done at March 31, 2003 06:06 AM

AHA
Susan Serin-Done

Always read your posts with interest. But I think this boycott thing is not going to be such a clear-cut thing. We're stepping into a minefield.

These French and German companies have gone public quite a while ago and large US pension funds have some stakes in quite a few of them.

Then there is this whole story with partnerships and takeovers:
You boycott Mercedes-Benz, it hits Chrysler, you boycott BMW and Rover is in trouble. Same goes for Michelin, l'OrČal, Siemens, Alcatel and all the rest of them. You'll find loads of similar examples. Quickly gets counterproductive in my humble opinion.

Next question is what happens when these outfits produce their goods on US soil, employing US workers?

Perhaps I'm wrong. Test run the thing on a hundred companies and perhaps you're more lucky than me. The Fortune 500 can be a good start to investigate options.
