News Networks Fail to Cover Anti-War Protest

(2003-03-25) -- Television crews from American news networks missed an "anti-war" demonstration yesterday in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

Organizers of the spontaneous protest estimated attendance at 3.7 million, but the demonstrators dispersed within 10 minutes after a speaker mentioned that no TV cameras were there.

Media experts report that this may be the first anti-war demonstration which failed to attract network coverage.

Richard Perle told US News & World Report:

"The Iraqi opposition is kind of like an MRE [meals ready to eat, a freeze-dried Army field ration]. The ingredients are there and you just have to add water, in this case U.S. support."

Testifying before Congress in 2000, Perle insisted, "We need not send substantial ground forces into Iraq when patriotic Iraqis are willing to fight to liberate their country."

Last year, he conceded that the US troop requirement might go as high as 40,000.

Posted by: Jack Daniels at March 25, 2003 08:42 AM

We hope and trust the vast majority of the Iraki believe they are being liberated.

But the more they fight, the more it suggests that some, even outside the tyrannical elite, actually resent having their country invaded.

And that thought is a little hard to contemplate right now.

News crews examining the arial photo's did grid count cross sections of the crowd and determined that the actual count was only 3.7 people.

Okay people! I've only got a little time here. The Tet-watch group is really working overtime, but the problem is the news guys on our side are still trying to establish their "fairness". In other words, yes, those of you who say we should be going with the events of this past weekend are right, but we are going to stick to the plan and for now it's too early. Stay with the program, do not ad lib!
And the Archie Bunker group is warming up right here on Scrapple Face - practice people! I know the gomers here are tough opposition but if you can't out smart them here then how can you suceed in your own communities? -I know, the TV people will edit for you, but come on! We need to win hearts and minds on the internet too! Nice try, Jack Daniels! You are entered to win the free Peter Paul and Mary CD for this week just for posting, but you are still a little too vague, some of the dumber ones won't get it!! Remember people, just keep talking, eventually the Bushies will just go away! They're weak, people!

But keep up the good work. I can hear the Bushies crying now. These people are too stupid to look up real facts guys, (remember, all the college professors are on our side) so just say anything!

Posted by: Bill Terwilliger at March 25, 2003 10:20 AM

Seriously people...

If you were an Iraqi civilian with Allied guns pointing at your forehead, and Iraqi guns pointing at your back... would you run out and waveing an American flag;cheer and hoopla the liberators? Especially given that Saddam has already used thay ploy to ambush a few of the troops... A six year old kid in Iraq has more common sense than Mr John Smith.

When we heard the reports of those Iraqi soldiers trying to surreneder before the war started... I cringed...knowing that would be used against us later.

Watch what happens when it is a declared victory. I just hope that Iraq runs out of Russian ammunition before it runs out of civilians to celebrate. We are the ones who care about that, Not Saddam et. al.

BASRA: ANTI-SADDAM RIOTS

Rioting is taking place in Basra by locals opposed to Saddam Hussein, reports say.

British forces are firing on Iraqi troops who are trying to crush the uprising, the reports add.

Reporter Richard Gaisford, who is with troops just west of Basra, said British intelligence officers told him about the civil uprising.

Sky News Foreign Editor Tim Marshall said that if the reports were true, it would be a "crucial moment" in the Iraq war.

He said it could trigger more uprisings across parts of Iraq - which the British and American governments had hoped for.

We want to see Saddam gone but we support the Iraqi people. Our diverse group is proud to include people from all walks of life; moms, dads, professionals and professors, and probably your childrens school teachers! I myself am a currently unemployed computer programmer on welfare and disability. I believe in the environment, an equal playing field, separation of church and state, slave reparations, and that war is not healthy for living growing things. I referenced two sub-committees of the umbrella group in my earlier post above. I described the activities of all the committees in my post before that. We encourage young people to join our group. We will be debating you people here as we see fit. In 2004 we will elect a Democrat President.
Does this answer your questions?

I checked out your suggested web page "Alternet" or something like that. It's good to see that there is a community for the Left. Most of the discussion I viewed on this web page was from a liberal point of view. Actually, I would say that the discussion over there is a tad more civil than what I've observed here, I still can't bring myself to fully support the dogma of the left concerning the war in general. All said and done, I think my own curious swerve to the left over the past several years has been radically altered back to the right on the matter of national defense.

The posts you've placed on this forum seem to me to be a little bit on the "looking down your nose" side of things. Tell me, do you take the same tact on the Alternet forums or are you activly involved in serious discussion? It must be tough thinking your smarter than everybody else eah?

Hey Bill,

It seems pretty clear you are joking, but it is still just a tad scary that your stab at a satirical, over-the-top representation of the fog in which liberals live is actually spot-on.

Yow.

However, since you mentioned it, I figured I would comment: I have emailed MSNBC every time that idiot jill nelson appears, crying about slave reparations. I always skewered her and her arguments, wondering why a 'news' organization such as they would allow such a moron to take up space on their site. But recently, I have discovered I am actually all for slave reparations. With one condition. Anyone who accepts these reparations must immediately renounce his or her American citizenship and be removed from the country at once, preferably to be sent 'home', which would be whatever country their slave ancestors were abducted from. Obviously, there is no actual inherent value in being an actual American citizen, so this should not present a problem. (Now if we only figure out a way to get all these sign-carrying nut-jobs to leave and go breathe all that air in frogland..)

But anyway, enough of da gress.

Did anyone notice that American Movie Classics has been running "High Noon" lately? If you haven't seen it yet, catch it sometime. Or pick it up at Wal-Mart or K-Mart if you see it on the oldies rack.

For those of you who've seen it, you'd swear that was "W" on the screen, not Gary Cooper.

For the uninitiated, it's about a soon-to-retire lawman who, when troublemakers from the past come back to town, must choose between his commitment to his pacifist wife and doing his duty. His deputy quits because he's mad at being passed over for Cooper's job. He then tries to convince him to run away from the fight. Then Cooper goes to the saloon to look up some of the men who helped the last time, but finds out they actually prefer the bad guys to him. At the church, several men start to leave with him, but another gets up and tells them that it's not their problem, but if and when the bad guys try anything, they'll take care of it themselves.

Is any of this starting to sound familiar?????

This is from Cincinnati, Ohio

A trucker is accused of trying to run down anti-war protesters on the Ezzard Charles Drive Overpass on 75. Protesters were holding signs up during rush hour Monday night, when witnesses say a semi jumped the curb and scattered about 2 dozen people who were gathered there. Cincinnati police arrested 49 year-old James Watters on a list of charges including aggravated menacing, inducing panic and reckless operation. No one was hurt.

I do not see that he did anything wrong.

Posted by: Darth Chef at March 26, 2003 02:08 PM

I too agree with slave reparations. We can do it two ways:

1. Any person living today that was a slave gets a house, a car, and a monthly alotment (soinds alot like welfare doesn't it)

or, as the left would have it,

2. Any person who is the decendant or relative, of a slaveor slaves, even though those persons actually held as a slave are deceased, is entilted to monetary damages in the amount equal to the annual salary they would have been entitle to had they been free, times the number of years they were held as slaves plus interest. The reparations will come from those persons who initially placed said persons into slavery status and whomever kept said persons in slavery status and benefited from said status, as long as they are still living, or their decendants or businesses.

The way I figure it, if we adopt rule number two, I as a Roman Catholic am entitled to slave reparations from Italy for the enslavement of my ancestors. And since they were in the entertainment busniess (tossed to the lions for the amusement of the non-christians), the amount of reparations, plus interest for several hundred years should be incredible.

Where's my check??

Posted by: Darth Chef at March 26, 2003 02:57 PM

Radio:

Check your antenna. I was drawing an analogy, which I hope wasn't lost on anyone else. The President is a cowboy, and we can thank God for that. (Better a Cowboy than the Medicine Show Man who came to town for eight years and sold everyone snakeoil.)

I would have used a modern movie, but there are so few to choose from that don't involve selfish, over-compensated, unpatriotic little twits.

And that's the view from Archie's Bunker...
By the way, I'm not Archie. I know that trying to teach history and the nature of good and evil to a "meathead" is like trying to teach a pig to sing.

Gone with the wind is a story about a pretty selfish little leftist bi*ch, who screwed up her life and everyone elses she touched, while an ugly war to establish a cohesive free nation and abolish slavery raged on the "background".

It ends when the only person in her life that ever loved her; when she finally decides to treat him like an American becuase he had finally become sucessful, the old fashiond way.. by his hard work, tells her.. "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn"..

Not becuase he didn't love her.. but becuase he knew she couldn't be trusted... and would still double cross him (again) and vote Democrat... as soon as she got what she wanted.

Some things never change.

Now here's the big news. Friday at 6 PM eastern is "Run Naked Chicken for Peace". It's actually translated from Mandarin, in that language it makes more sense but that's the best we can do. What we will all do is run out our front doors 'skyclothed' as the wiccans say, flapping our arms with thumbs tucked into armpits like chickens as we dash down our streets and into the public square of our hometowns. There we will gather and continue to be "chickens for peace" until this illegal war is stopped.

Does any of that sound familiar?

What's sad is that we're wasting our time trying to draw correlations between hollywood movies and life. The old saying...Art Imitates Life.

When people start drawing their moral fiber from movies, we're in for deep trouble. High Noon...Outland....Gone With the Wind. Who gives a hoot. It's entertainment at best. Any political/social comment is extra food for thought, however, should not be the basis of our drawing our moral lines in society.

You have to admit though.. that discerning between, humor, satire, and serious from the left... is a LOT harder to discern. They've been so wacky for so long... we forget to do the horselaugh test sometimes... we are so used to seeing the other end of the horse. Not very often; that you actually find a Lib with a sense of humor.

On conservatism, there is no statute of limitations; but with the Left.. you have to catch them red handed in the ACT... that's how the game works.

Here's a couple:

Gandalf: "We don't choose the times we're born into, Frodo!" (Much longer Quote, completely applicable to today)
- Fellowship of the Ring

Wormtongue (to deluded pacifist leaning king of Rohan re: Gandalf): "Don't listen to this..... warmonger, sire!"
- The Two Towers

Art immitates life? No, both movies were made before Sep 2001. And from the buzz I've heard, a few people actually paid money to see them. Wonder if the anti-everything crowd gets it?

Radio,
Many movies are popular for generations after their release because they reflect some fundamental goodness of the American spirit. I know you're one of the good guys, but you've got this one slightly backwards. Popularity of movies with a message we believe in reinforces the feeling that we are not alone in our opinions.

The left wing tactic is to infer that Americans are too stupid to develop their own opinions, and instead are brainwashed by movies and other media. (CNN with it's well known right-wing bias.) This is, of course, simply them projecting their own motivations on others.

Americans have better ways to learn about the world. I, for instance, develop my opinions based on ScrappleFace!

HOW TO MAKE AN ANTIWAR PROTESTOR SHUTUP

1. Slap him or her as hard as you can across the face for no reason.
2. When they ask you why you just slapped them, remind them that they want peace, a.k.a. "turn the other cheek".
3. Then slap them again, this time harder. Remind them again of september 11 and the multiple threats sent by the Iraq regime. Remind them again that they believe in peace, and tell THEM to "turn the other cheek".
4. Repeat this process until they come to their senses.
GOD BLESS YOU DAD FOR FIGHTING THIS WAR
