American Flag Vandals Break Windows to Protest War
(2003-03-11) -- After learning that they would not be arrested for destroying privately-owned American flags because police consider it 'free speech', a group of anti-war protestors in La Habra, CA, have taken to breaking windows in private homes and cars in the neighborhood. the vandals who desecrated the 9-11 memorial should be prosecuted Is it possible to get my address out to the vandals? That way if they destroy my property, we won't have to worry about the police doing nothing. I will shoot to kill every one of them. That will be my free speech response. Posted by: Jim at March 11, 2003 12:18 PMThis doesn't really relate to the above story, but I thought that (if he hadn't already) Mr. Ott would like to see it. It's pretty interesting, too. This is an actual article from CNN.COM url http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/11/sprj.irq.fries/index.html House restaurants change name for 'french fries' and 'french toast' Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast." The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who plan to hold a news conference later Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus. Across the country, some private restaurants have done the same. "This action today is a small, but symbolic effort to show the strong displeasure of many on Capitol Hill with the actions of our so-called ally, France," said Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, the chairman of the Committee on House Administration. Ney, whose committee has authority over the House restaurants, directed the change, after colleague Walter Jones, R-North Carolina, circulated a letter suggesting such a move. "I represent a district with multiple military bases that have deployed thousands of troops," Jones said in a statement. "As I've watched these men and women wave good-bye to their loved ones, I am reminded of the deep love they have for the freedom of this nation and their desire to fight for the freedom of those who are oppressed overseas," Jones said in a statement. "Watching France's self -serving politics of passive aggression in this effort has discouraged me more than I can say." France has pressed the United Nations to give weapons inspectors more time in Iraq, saying the U.S. and British-led move to war is premature. Its stance has angered some U.S. lawmakers. Rep. Jim Saxton, R-New Jersey, has introduced legislation in the House that would block any French company from receiving U.S. government aid or financing in any reconstruction of Iraq. Another measure discourages American tourists, businesses and the government from participating in the 2003 Paris Air show. Where is good old fashion police brutality when you really need it? Obviously Whittier is not a town I would feel comfortable (or safe) to live in. The mainstream morality as shown by their police seems to be colored chicken-pink. If I was one of these cops, I would be ashamed to show my face in NYC. I've blogged about this one as well. I was thinking it might be a good idea to loot the homes of a bunch of annoying Hollywood celebrities. "Although we do have well-known differences with North Korea, we do recognize a common goal and think we can work together to decapitate a mutual enemy," the spokesman told reporters. "Our assistance to North Korea will be limited solely to 'Operation Lefty-Dunk'. This will entail giving the North Koreans satellite intelligence and seismological data needed to successfully mount a nuclear strike on the San Andreas fault. We'll time the operation to coincide with the Oscar Awards, so most of the enemy leadership can be expected to share the fate of the rogue state of California." Asked about civilian casualities and collatoral damage, the spokesman explained that all U.S. military assets have already been rebased, and that all 318 Republican residents of the state will be airlifted to safety shortly before the operation begins. However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. I lost many neighbors that day. All day long I heard sirens that seemed to go off endlessly, and I will never forget the horror I felt when I saw the Pentagon was hit. I didn't know what would come next, and almost expected to see the Sears tower, the golden gate bridge and who knows what other targets they may have had in mind that day reduced to rubble. I am no ivory tower scholar nor do I study worldview philosophy full time, but I am in Marketing and understand supply and demand economics. What I understand about the war in Iraq is this: Iraq has the supply and Al Queda has the demand to inflict on this country the harm that would make 9-11 small in comparison. The anti-war protesters, the howling left and the Foreign Ministers who are opposing this war do not seem to grasp what to me is very obvious. It's the whole Liberal movement, this poor sap is just caught in the backflush, and doesn't realize that to these real "war criminals" he and his ilk are just a floatie waiting to go down. They are as useful to the "movement" as they are stupid. So.. what right do we have to "impose freedom"? Well.. for starters that's bad logic. You can't! And freedom to chose is an "inalienable right" to us. We just go give them that option.. When? When they cross the international dateline with their BS (Belief System) headed this direction. Would we be over there if they hadn't come here first? Hell no! And that's the sadest comentary of it all.. We should have been.. 12 years ago. The UN should have been. Ever heard of "Lead, Follow, or get out of the way"? If not NOW? When? You go get em' Frenchie... You and Barbara, and Sean; and take your "trilogy of books" and go "educate" them, why don't you? Becuase you know exactly where they would stick them. Right? These people honestly believe that the Israeli Mossad was behind the 9/11 attacks and warned 4,000 Jews not to go to work that day. We can all see that that is an outlandish lie, but a high percentage of Pakistanis are not literate. Since they cannot read other opionions, they get all their information from the Madrasas and Mosques. The big problem with that is that these institutions are run by religious fanatics and these fanatics rule these people by putting the fear of God in them. They are brainwashed so badly they think that killing Americans/Christians/etc will actually bring them into Alah's favor. That's obscene! what is also obscene is that an uneducated fool can go to Baghdad to "see" conditions for himself and come back stating that he "saw" to reason to go to war. He couldn't even spell mustard gas let alone know what it looks like. I've ranted enough, To: La Habra police Capt John Rees: Desecrating a 911 monument is NOT ill will intent HUH? That is where diplomacy has its rightful place. But when they start killing masses of their own innocent people for believing the truth, (no danger if you believe the lies)... then what? The travesty is the "Educated Left"... these highbrow Frenchfry and media types (who should know better) believe it and sympathize with this kind of ignorance... I mean, you have to wonder why? Political Agenda just seems to sneak in to my suspicions. "First... we have to get back into power... then we will deal all this... injustice and stuff." Meanwhile we just oppose anything and everything that the "current administration" has on its "agenda". They think that everybody else uses their same illogical methodology. It really is a filibuster mindset. To the Left ... even though they make a lot of racket about "issues"... they don't actually ever really deal with any of them. Name it and Blame it. Write a book about it. Make a movie about it. Sing a song about it. Get naked in the park about it. But above all else, vote against anyone who wants to do anything about it. Posted by: Phrog Poet at March 11, 2003 06:46 PMyou are right, when it comes down to the educated making these enormous mistakes you have to wonder what is behind their motivation. The left is doing that right now to undermine a president they do not like and the will do anything, I mean anything, to make him look bad. People like daschle are pulling a schizophrenic mutliple personality performance on Iraq. In '90 they were against it (Bush 41), during Clinton they were for it ('98), now during Bush (43) they are against it. Give me a break! It is all politics for the left and for France it is economics. They are doing trade and making money (definition of prostitution), but what they do not realize is that we Americans are getting pissed and will soon boycott french goods and that will really hurt. An unspeakable act so cruel, so calculated and so utterly merciless that surely the world could agree on one thing - nobody deserves this fate. Surely there could be consensus: The victims were truly innocent, the perpetrators truly evil. But to the world's eternal shame, 9/11 is increasingly seen as America's comeuppance. Incredibly, anti-Americanism has increased over the last year! There has always been a simmering resentment to the USA in this country; too loud, too rich, too full of themselves, and so much happier than Europeans - but it has become an epidemic. And it seems incredible to me. More than that, it turns my stomach. America is this country's greatest friend and our staunchest ally. We are bonded to the US by culture, language and blood. A little over half a century ago, around half a million Americans died for our freedoms, as well as their own. Have we forgotten so soon? And exactly a year ago, thousands of ordinary men, women and children -- not just Americans, but from dozens of countries -- were butchered by a small group of religious fanatics. Are we so quick to betray them? What touched the heart about those who died in the Twin Towers and on the planes, was that we recognized them. Young fathers and mothers, somebody's son and somebody's daughter, husbands, wives, and children, some unborn. And these people brought it on themselves?? Their nation is to blame for their meticulously planned slaughter?
The truth is that America has behaved with enormous restraint since September 11!
Remember those people leaping to their deaths from the top of burning skyscrapers. Remember the hundreds of firemen buried alive. Remember the smiling face of that beautiful little girl who was on one of the planes with her mum. and remember.....and remember.
AMERICA could have turned a large chunk of the world into a parking lot. That it didn't is a sign of strength. American voices are already being raised against attacking Iraq -- that's what a democracy is for. How many in the Islamic world will have a minute's silence for the slaughtered innocents of 9/11? How many Islamic leaders will have the guts to say that the mass murder of 9/11 was an abomination? When the news of 9/11 broke on the West Bank, those freedom-loving Palestinians were dancing in the street. America watched all of that -- and didn't push the button. We should thank the stars that America is the most powerful nation in the world. I still find it incredible that 9/11 did not provoke all-out war. Not a "war on terrorism." A real war! The fundamentalist dudes are talking about "opening the gates of hell" if America attacks Iraq. Well, America could have opened the gates of hell like you wouldn't believe.
To our shame, George Bush gets a worse press than Saddam Hussein. Once we were told that Saddam gassed the Kurds, tortured his own people and set up rape-camps in Kuwait. Now we are told he likes Quality Street. Save me the orange center, Oh Mighty One!
Aha, I don't see what the problem is with arresting the vandels... Remember kiddies, not all liberals are the same! Making liberals all the same (or conservatives, for that matter) is the first step to growing all-consuming, all-enveloping hatred for a group of people. Personally, I have seen way to many reflexive liberal bashers AND people who hate Bush for no reason other than all the smart people in our class hate him. It is very sad... the new 30 second intellegence test at any high school is not "Do you hate bush", its "Why do you hate bush". Whether or not you hate bush is really just a question on intellegence/awareness... why is a question of do you think. Why I hate Bush is why I hate all people I hate; I hate people who don't think. Then again, it is what makes Bush a good leader; all good leaders are not intellectually aware as the intellectuals. Professors are not presidents. It would be ridiculous. So, all the liberal elite will eternally moan and complain about how dumb the leaders are. Which is sort of the point of being a liberal; you get to complain. A lot. I like complaining, I like to bemoan the fact that our president is royally screwing our country over, I like comparing the future to 1984. I hate Orwellian labeling of people. I hate homework. Whatever, peace out. Don't moke weed, don't do drugs, don't get pregnant. In the words of the famous, but dead Kurt Cobain: "Oh well, whateve, never mind." (Smells like teen spirit). Terrorists suxx, being labeled a terrorist is worse. Don't kill people because dying suxx. If you are a religious person, keep going to church. If it didn't have any socialogical value, it wouldn't still be around; it has good values even if you don't believe the cosmology. If you are bored, do something. Posted by: Angry_Liberal at March 12, 2003 11:06 PMA VIEW FROM NEW YORK, Two guys are standing on a street corner talking not bothering anyone minding there own business, from the top of the street a car full of gangbanger's in route to do a drive by shooting is speeding toward the two on the corner as the car passes two shots are fired from the car hitting both men The two men were in the wrong place at the wrong time
Now hold that thought The commander in chief sets fourth a doctrine if you harbor, aid, communicate or give any manner of material or none material support to the perpetrators (al quaeda )of this act we will treat you as one of them
Now for the parallel case Once again I am compelled to say the anti war movement is with out merit, logic or even mere justifiable cause they blame the leader of the victims who is only defending the victims right for justice I will say one last thing when you get those chain emails asking you to sign against the war As I've repeatedly stated re: anti-war protesters..... when the day comes I see them condemn Saddam Hussein with equal fervor as GWB, burn Iraqi flags right along with American, and see Iraqis marching in protest of the liberation of Iraq, is the day i will consider you as a thinking, discerning and moral protester. I watched every second of 9/11 that morning and the next few days. The most moving thing I saw, that finally jerked me out of numb shock, was when coverage started of all the ordinary citizens that poured from every corner of NYC and the rest of the country to volunteer to dig, to do anything. (Where in the world would you find a relief organization having to say, enough! Thank you, but don't come - we are saturated with VOLUNTEERS? In America, that's where.) Then the camera panned around and there was an old black man who stood alone on the corner with a shovel he'd brought, waiting to be allowed into Ground Zero. It brought home to me the absolute LOVE carried in the hearts of Americans. Yes we are a new country (but the oldest democracy) but to me that's not an indictment - it's an explanation of why the love we carry in our hearts hasn't been burned into a miserable piece of charcoal soaked in bitter bile by generations and generations of the kind of oppression and genocide and unending civil war most other societies in this world have experienced. Love ourselves, America. Love ourselves. We need not excuse ourselves to anyone in the world. Posted by: AHA at March 13, 2003 08:52 AMA sad state of affairs indeed. And thoughtful posts here that clearly express something we can only hope that protesters may some day understand. I wondered on Sep 11 how long America could stand fast in the face of this attack. Then Dubya's speech with the "long time" and "you're with us or against us" lines. Still, I didn't know then whether to fully trust that or not. Was this posturing? Would he have the cajones to stick to it? And now 18 months later we press on. Our former allies say it's arrogant to demand that they be with us or against us? Okay, we understand, you're against us. Bummer. It didn't end when they finished the cleanup at WTC, and it won't be over when we clean up Iraq, either. It's breaking our hearts that Saddam Hussein has left no other option and we pray hard, and we pray daily, that someone - anyone - will find the non-war solution... The entire UN with it's ARMY of diplomats, not one single nation's leader, not one single Bush protester, not one single religious leader - NO ONE has anything new or viable. Failing that - we pray that Saddam will give up. No luck there and not likely to be any. WHY don't you protest against Saddam and his evil henchmen? Posted by: AHA at March 13, 2003 11:19 AMAHA, Those 9/11 victims did not choose to be on a terrorist flying bomb. All these victims had no choice in the outcome of that day, but onece those terrorists chose to complete those acts of lunacy and barbarism they chose their fate. Just as Yamamoto said "I fear we have awoken a sleeping giant" after the Pearl Harbor attack, the terrorists should have known that we would be a comin'. They chose to start it, we have chosen to finish it and Iraq is part of the solution. Their leader chose a course of action and must now face the consequences.
