You don't think they will expel us from the UN, do you? I mean what would we do with all the UN dues we saved, build another aircraft carrier? Posted by: Al at March 8, 2003 05:25 PMIf we get expelled from the UN, could we immediatelly start issuing tickets to all those diplomatic vehicles double parked in front of New York porno shops? Posted by: John Lemon at March 8, 2003 05:41 PMRUMSFELD OFFERS COMPROMISE ON MISSILE DEFENSE In a press conference today, U.S. defense chief Rumsfeld expressed empathy for the concerns of missile defense opponents. "We understand that not everyone is comfortable with the idea of being protected from incoming enemy missiles. This isn't something we want to force on anybody." Mr. Rumsfeld presented a plan wherein the anti-missile umbrella would be limited to 'Bush Country' only. "We'll just exclude all the 'blue' states from the 2000 election in our planning and deployment phases," he explained. "This way no one will suffer unnecessarily under the stifling security of our strategic defense system, and those who so choose can continue to enjoy the utopian bliss of mutually assured destruction." The plan will be flexible enough to take into account future political developments, he added. "After the 2004 elections, we'll go back and rework the system to reflect the decisions of each state's voters. I imagine we'll see a red-shift on the national map, but ultimately it's up to the electorate." (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr;=&ie;=UTF-8&oe;=UTF-8&q;=%22french+war+failure%22) Why do disagreements so often degenerate to name-calling? (My guess: you can make people laugh and establish rapport) Do you really think that the french are a cowardly race? Posted by: JohnS at March 8, 2003 09:29 PMI don't like talking negative of people, but I kinda feel betrayed. More I read about past history with the french the more sour I get, read this- Whether itís supporting terrorist-abetting Cuban dictator Fidel Castro or nosily denouncing U.S. capital punishment, France seldom passes up an opportunity to oppose America in the United Nations and elsewhere. The sad reality is that current French leaders envy and hate America for our power and wealth. While America has been prospering, France (along with much of Western Europe) remains deeply mired in economic stagnation created by a failed socialist economy and myopic leaders. Franceís new ěhate Americaî campaign is particularly despicable when considering the history of American aid to France. When Germany threatened France during World War I, American doughboys came to the rescue. Thirty years later, when France was conquered by Nazi Germany and her people enslaved, tens of thousands of Americans gave their lives to defeat their German conquerors and free France. After World War II, France was one of the largest beneficiaries of the U.S. Marshall Plan which saved the French from destitution and rebuilt their economy. Then, when the Soviet Union threatened Europe during the Cold War, for over 40 years the American nuclear shield again protected France from Soviet conquest. Again and again America has saved France from political annihilation and slavery. But instead of appreciation, again and again we have received sneering derision. When America went toe to toe with Castro during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the French said they would not stand with us. When President Reagan bombed Khadafyís Libya after it sponsored terrorism that killed American soldiers, the French refused to allow US bombers to cross its airspace. Today, as Chairman of the Pentagonís Policy Advisory Board Richard Perle observes: "France is no longer the ally it once was. I have long thought that there were forces in France intent on reducing the American role in the world." oh no JohnS.. were just kidding.. the French are the freaking Heros of the world, and everyone knows it.. It's just that even with blind, predjudiced and biased "inspectors" like the Germans and Russians and the rest of them.. we just can't seem to find any concrete evidence. Posted by: Phrog Poet at March 8, 2003 09:51 PMIt makes me think too, they aren't allies. Better word to describe them is parasites, cause this alliance has been benefical to one side and that would be france. I hope they have a good supply of white flags handy for future conflicts. I plan on telling my senators and congress people to take us out UN like many others are, or at least cutting funding to it. UN is worthless by todays standards! But by all means, pity the french people. After all, they have to live in France. Posted by: Okie Dokie at March 9, 2003 04:47 AMCome on guys-Let's give France a break. They have had some great generals in the past. Joan of Arc-oh wait-she was German. There was Charlemaigne-Oops he was German too. Napolean-Whoops, he was Corsican and never really even bothered to learn French very well. Well, they did drag us in to WWI, and then sold us defective machine guns. Bet they got a good laugh about that one. They did withdraw from the front several times without bothering to tell our troops that their flanks were unguarded. They also caused the great depression by refusing to pay their war debts to us, and then indirectly caused WWII by setting unreasonable demands on the Germans in the treaty of Versailles. Lets not forget their brave 2 week defense of their homeland when they surrendered to the Germans with over a million troops still available to fight. But Charles DeGaulle did stay in the war, bravely advancing behind the Allies. (Until they got to Paris, and the French couldn't be bothered to help the Americans kick the Germans out of Eastern France.) They were grateful to us when we gave them Billions to save the French Economy from collapsing in the 50s. They thanked us by kicking all American troops out of their country with 2 days notice. Those Americans that had to leave their possesions behind were glowing with the thanks they felt. Then there was Vietnam, which was controlled by the French. They left others to clean up the mess. Such good friends. You know, on second thought maybe we should let Saddam create weapons of mass destruction, as long as he agrees to do his testing in France. Sheesh, what a bunch of ungrateful jerks. I say next time that 5 troops with a starter pistol manage to take over the country, let the French fend for themselves. Posted by: G. oh yeah They put Professor Dork-in-Hoffer up against the Arab Al Capone .. he's bad, he's evil he is wait a minute .... Hussein is beyond Capone ..Al Capone never boiled his enemies in acid .. also staring The U.N. Security Counsel as the only working coalition with a mandated goal to out do itself in irrelevance, with every event each more insignificant than the last its mission statement with Special guest star OK, there are holes in the fence. Iraqi frontline troops are starving again and trying to surrender before it really heats up. His army is only a 5th as strong as it was during GWI. We have a couple of hundred thousand troops on his southern flank, and about 30 thousand on his northern flank. He has no air. Iran is mobilizing on is western border. What is this guy waiting for. He has been offered exile. Is he in such a la-la land that he learned nothing from GWI or Afghanistan? Does he expect the UN is going to save his ass this time? Does he think our politicians are going to wimp out again just short of Baghdad? What are his Generals telling him? Put yourself in his position. Any sane megalomaniac (?) is going to say "...I'm outta here...time to go live on the money stashed in Switzerland." What is [he] planning? WMD at the attacking troops, mouse-holing in Baghdad...a miracle from Allah. What? Frenchman were are you? "Do you really think that the french are a cowardly race?" Not a cowardly race, a cowardly CULTURE. Posted by: Opeth at March 9, 2003 11:48 PM"But by all means, pity the french people. After all, they have to live in France." That's the only thing they have going for them. It's the people that make France unseemly, but the physical country itself is fine. Posted by: M. Upton at March 10, 2003 12:22 AMBJBarron: The answer to your question is scarrier than you can ever imagine. Right now, the US is getting their ass handed to them in the World PR Department. Saddam knows how to play this game and will use every dead civillian to his advantage. He will even kill some himself by instructing his army to don US and British uniforms and murder large crowds of civilians while being filmed. Saddam hopes to drag this war out so that the minimal international support we have now dwindles away and he can continue his reign. Posted by: Justin at March 10, 2003 01:57 PMLook, the only reason we cut the fence was so those Iraqi soldiers could get through to surrender...before the war started... I'm laughing so hard, I can't even finish being sarcastic........................................................................ Posted by: grillmaster Celissa at March 10, 2003 02:07 PMThe French have now got a new flag? why do the French eat snails? Everybody keeps on bashing the French for being such a cowardly people. I think that it's time enough to stop this, after all it's not their fault that they have been invaded and conquered throughout history so much to an extent to now the french have become afraid to stand up to anyone for fear that they might be invaded. Now the french army is in such a disarray because of the impending war with Iraq, the generals are so out of practice surrendering that they are afraid to go to war because they might not surrender correctly. So letís take pity on the poor people of France, and put them out of their misery, after all itís been almost 60 years since there was an occupying army in Paris. So on the way to Iraq our troops could stop by Paris, we all know that it will be good practice for our military in handling massive amounts of enemy troops surrendering when the invasions start. Then all of our problems will be resolved. Posted by: Mike U. at March 11, 2003 10:47 AMBREAKING NEWS The United States vetoed a resolution presented to the UN Security Council by Dominique de Villepin, of France that would order the immediate closure of the breaches in the border fence between Iraq and Kuwait. De Villepin, representing the nation of France, said in his statement, " We regret that the United States and Britain felt it was appropriate to veto this very important resolution which we feel is a breakthrough in the Iraqi issue." de Villepin went on to stress, "..if the hemorrhage of Iraqi conscripts through the fence continues, the risk of embarrassment to President Hussein (and the countries that have secretly supported him) would be too severe and he may never recover. After all, this beleaguered nation has already suffered twelve years of humiliations along with economic devastation due to the imperialist, bullying strategies of the United States. The US is continuing to undermine the leadership of Iraq by providing medical care, edible food and safety for those who flee to Kuwait via the breach. France has done its best to help Saddam maintain his sovereignty and will continue to stand with her in the face of undue influence by the only superpower left in the world. American pride is already too great, and Saddam should be given an opportunity to save face..." Anti-war protesters applauded the rush of human shields to the area who are using their bodies to block Iraqi defectors from leaving. What's amazing about all these defectors is that they talk about WMD and how they will be used when backed into a corner. BLAH BLAH BLAH. I just want to start writing about how fast Iraq fell to our troops and see the lood on those leaders faces when we show all the WMD's!
