Microsoft Retaliates for New York Vandalism Fine
(2002-10-27) -- Microsoft Corporation announced today that its new MSN 8.0 service will block internet surfers from viewing the name of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, effectively eliminating access to Bloomberg.com.
Microsoft's move comes in retaliation for New York's slapping the company with a $50 fine for posting promotional decals at hundreds of locations around town.
Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer in a tersely worded news release said, "You wanna play rough with us Mr. Bloomberg, you'd better go talk to the U.S. Department of Justice first. Nobody, but nobody, hits Microsoft with a $50 fine. We'll tie you up in court for years just trying to get Bloomberg.com back online."

The next new sticker:
"Microsoft has a posse!"
Microsoft official William Wallace was quoted as saying "they can fine us all the want... but they can't take away OUR FREEDOM!!!"
It's all about "innovation." The decals are an innovative advertising approach. New York is stifling new technology, but look for decals to be built into the next version of Windows.
I'm betting on that imitation "Tick" guy MSN is using to promote its new browser.
p.s. It's a chrysalis, not a cocoon.
Microsoft also threatened that all New York City computers using any version of the Windows operating system; could and would, lock up without warning and for no apparent reason. Or, as Bill Gates stated: "Gotcha!"
