Farrakhan Claims U.S. Has Weapons of Mass Destruction

(2002-10-08) -- Minister Louis Farrakhan, in a speech to anti-war protestors in Detroit said that George Bush is a greater threat to world peace than Saddam Hussein.

"And I have recently learned," said the leader of the Chicago-based Nation of Islam, "that Bush's country has weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear bombs. We must push the United Nations to restrain this maniacal dictator before he can expand the reach of his reign of terror."

Mr. Farrakhan's remarks were often interrupted with shouts of "Go ahead!" and "Yes, sir!" until ushers informed the audience members that the rally was not a Baptist meeting.

"Iraq is not a threat to the United States," Farrakhan said repeatedly. "The threat is a figment of the imagination of the president of the United States and his advisors.''

The White House physician was immediately dispatched to run drug tests on Mr. Bush and his advisors, according to spokesman Ari Fleischer.

"It's just a precaution," Fleischer said. "We're testing for hallucinogens because Mr. Farrakhan is a minister, and as such, he must be telling the truth."
