Condi Says Celebrities Are Key to Defeating Iraq

(2002-09-27) -- Air supremacy won't be enough to topple Saddam Hussein, said U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, it's going to take star power. A coalition of entertainers is being marshaled to win the war.

"We have an edge in this battle that few pundits have noticed," Rice said. "We have a lot of celebrities, and we're making new ones every day. Iraq, on the other hand, has only one celebrity -- Saddam himself. Advantage USA."

In times of crisis, nations turn to their entertainers not just to relieve the stress of trying times, but for military guidance, for legal advice and for moral support. Journalists around the globe besiege actors, singers and even writers with questions about the potential war.

Stephen Spielberg and Tom Cruise came out yesterday in support of President Bush.

"Although it may seem like a minority report at this time, we think Saddam should go," said Cruise, who was in Italy with Spielberg for the release of their blockbuster film Minority Report.

"As you can see," said Rice, "President Bush is not acting unilaterally. Support from the United Nations is important, but America's celebrities actually get things done."

I can't believe you didn't call Spielberg on his double negative:

If Bush, as I believe, has reliable information on the fact that Saddam Hussein is making weapons of mass destruction, I cannot not support the policies of his government," Spielberg said.

Is it that hard for Spielberg to say, "I can support the policies of his government?" Still Kudos are in order for these two, although Babs will probably never talk to them again. :-)

"Can't not" is totally acceptable and in fact carries far stronger meaning than "can." It means about the same as "must," except that 'must' would sound as though someone were coercing him.

Don't try grammar flames unless you're sure you're right.

I find it incomprehensible that the man who made SCHINDLER'S LIST should align himself with the country's leading Fascist!
