Kerry Misery Index Shows Major Industries Booming by Scott Ott (2004-04-12) -- According to John Forbes Kerry's newly released 'Misery Index' the American economy is in the midst of boom times in several major sectors, including health care, higher education and petroleum. "The health care sector, which makes up one-seventh of the American economy, is going great with insurance premiums up 11 percent during the Bush administration," said a Kerry presidential campaign spokesman. "Between 2000 and 2003 tuition at public colleges and universities also increased 13 percent and gasoline prices are up 15 percent with no decline in usage of any of these products. These industries employ hundreds of thousands of Americans whose wages trickle down to further boost the taxbase and the economy in general." The spokesman said, "These indicators combined put the Kerry Misery Index at 99, which clearly portends gloom and doom for the family of at least one well-known politician from Massachusetts, and perhaps more than one."
