(2002-12-08) -- A newspaper columnist who revealed that Canadians are morally superior to U.S. Americans, has also announced that they are "incredibly more humble."

"One of the great moral characteristics is a humble acknowledgement of one's abilities, and Canadians are better than anyone at this," according to Richard Gwyn, of The Toronto Star. "Our humility can kick the butt of anyone else's humility, bar none."

Gwyn, who wrote a column for The Star celebrating Canadian moral superiority, said in a phone interview today that even though his people are inherently better than "south of the border" Americans, they still admire "their energy, their competitiveness, their boldness, their patriotism."

"In a nutshell," said Mr. Gwyn, "we have the same respect for American's as we do for other lower creatures...say, the golden-cheeked gibbon (Hylobates gabriellae), or almost any variety of orangutan."
