(2003-05-19) — Disney’s plan to release self-destructing Digital Versatile Disks (DVD) is nothing new according to industry insiders.
“The only thing innovative is the methodology,” said an unnamed expert. “For several years Hollywood in general, and Disney in particular, has produced DVDs that rapidly degrade, even as they’re being viewed. Some of them actually emit an odor so strong, the viewers turn off the DVD player before the movie is over.”
A quick review of the discount rack at any DVD outlet provides evidence to back the claim that hundreds of movies on DVD self-destruct every year.
