Gregg Ditches Commerce Post, RNC Offers Specter

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 34 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2009-02-13) — With the announcement that Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) has pulled out of his bid to become President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Commerce the Republican National Committee (RNC) today offered Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) as a replacement.

“Sen. Specter is a career lawyer and politician, but he’s a fast learner and could be quickly trained to run the Commerce Department,” said RNC Chairman Michael Steele. “Of course, Republicans would miss his stalwart, reliable voting in the Senate. Conservatives never have to wonder how Arlen Specter will vote.”

White House insiders suggested Sen. Specter could get the same deal from Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, former chair of the Democrat National Committee, that Sen. Gregg made with his state’s Democrat governor — to appoint a Republican replacement once he’s confirmed as Commerce Secretary.

However, Mr. Steele said such a concession would be unnecessary, since replacing Sen. Specter with a Democrat would be an “ideology-neutral” move.

A White House spokesman said Mr. Obama bears no hard feelings toward Judd Gregg, praising his abortive nominee as “a man who paid his taxes on time.”

The administration claims it’s still on-target to fulfill its number one goal for the first 100 days, which is to fill all cabinet posts.

“The president is all about creating and retaining jobs,” said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs. “However, at this pace there is some concern that getting an additional four million people hired may take more than one term of office.”

RNC Chairman Steele said he’s committed to helping the new president fill those jobs, and has also offered Maine Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, whom he recommended as “team players, depending on which team you’re talking about.”

We can count on the Judas Vote of Spector. What we need is a policy of change, to replace the old, tired, failed policies of the last 8 years. What we need are NEW ideas, the new new deal for liberal pet projects, for campaign contributors and workers. We can’t blame Spector for wanting a piece of the action. VT has gainned a shovel. What they’ll be digging is still undetermined; is it short term employment or a grave remains to be seen. But Live for the Moment group members are rejoicing for the moment.

This is the moment that Spector can celebrate. He is really apart of History, he can claim to have been for the “Generational Theft Act of 2009″. Way to be hip Spector! Now if he could just use that Blackberry as well as Obama… he could claim the youth vote.

CC 26 bitter- No, they’re still round eyed but they will be.

    Too funny, Scott!

Great line… The administration claims it’s still on-target to fulfill its number one goal for the first 100 days, which is to fill all cabinet posts.

    Best regards…

Man, you’ve definitely got that right correct!

The truth is, when the “Rahm and Barry show” took away the 2010 census from the Commerce Secretary, there is little left, (no pun intended, I don’t know how to do the “line through” thing like Camo did), for him/her to do except for “sorting socks”, and bowling ball polishing which is the perfect fit for Specter!

Actually, since Obama is not much of a bowler, (or truth teller, door finder, or “baby protecter”), Specter can substitute basketball polishing for bowling ball polishing.

Scott, you did check this story out didn’t you?

After reading it a second time, I found something that is VERY hard to believe.

I guess since you are from Pennsylvania though, I will believe you when you say Specter is a Republican.

Being from Indiana, it is sometimes hard to believe our senior Senator, Dick Lugar is one too!

I still think Olympia Snowe looks like Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

wv: $6 undrilled I sure hope this isn’t a prediction for us not drilling!

The Gregg withdrawal, followed closely by the Caterpillar CEO’s refutation of Obama’s job-growth promises, joins a fast-growing string of examples suggesting that this is already, as some of our allies are saying, a failed Presidency. We may soon find a new addition to the language, “Baracked,” in such forms as the acronym SNABU.

After over three weeks of being President, doesn’t he deserve a vacation?

At the rate Obama’s vacations are going, he will be on vacation more time than he is in the White House.

I seem to remember libs constantly sniveling about GWB taking vacations, yet I don’t remember ANY for “Valentine’s Day” or ANY three weeks into his Presidency.

At least “Homer” Hussein didn’t bump his head this time climbing on Marine One.

    From Newsmax:

Their names are well known: Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe from Maine.

New revelations of political wheeling and dealing that helped get these liberal Republicans to betray their colleagues and parties are emerging.

For example, The New York Times reported that Arlen Specter insisted that the “stimulus” include $6.5 billion for “medical research.”

Yes, that’s $6.5 billion of your money.

    Why so much?

The paper says Specter has cancer and he wants more funding for research.

No matter how worthy the cause, Specter’s receipt of a $6.5 billion political payoff proves that this bill was not about stimulus and jobs, but about political shenanigans.

We must hold these Republicans to account.Specter has cancer? And the price of his Republican vote was $6.5 billion.

Wow! Thats even more than the $668 million “He, who is the absence of God” spent to buy the Presidency.

The cost of politics is going up.

Sen. Judd Gregg actually doesn’t have all that great a record as a “Conservative” but in my book he went a long, long, long way in gaining conservative ‘points’ and garnered at least a few more ‘points’ for his home state of “Live Free or Die” New Hampshire. From listening to him, I think the final straw was possibly unconstitutional move of the Census out from the Secretary of Commerce to the Office of the President and his gang of thugs.

Michael Steele (newly elected chief of the RNC) was just on as a ‘fill in’ host for the Bill Bennett Show - as a guest call in, he had Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty who struck me as a good Conservative Governor. I especially was impressed by his honoring Warrant Officer Windorski with half-mast flags.

    From Newsmax — February 6, 2009

Saint Paul — Governor Tim Pawlenty has ordered that all U.S. flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at the Capitol Complex, including state buildings, monuments, and grounds in proximity to and including the Minnesota State Capitol, from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, February 7, 2009, in honor and remembrance of Chief Warrant Officer Three Philip E. Windorski Jr.

Well, now I see this in a whole new light!

If Specter wants benefit for himself, he should pay the entire $6.5 billion out of his own pocket. That way he could sell his the discovery of his research, and possible cure for an exorbitant price, and make it available only to those who pay for it!

    That’s the Conservative way!

I pity the Leftists for assuming that everyone is is-or should be-as twisted as themselves.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

    And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

    Yo,

I was just listening to your crying Minority Leader “Drunky” Boohner, he was saying they are not going to be “The Party of NO”, unless of course they are not allowed to run things.

Drunky and several others went into an adult version of their “what are we going to tell they children” phony dismay.

Hey guy, tell ‘em if you had a clue you should have played it long before Obama. Then, who knows, maybe the voters wouldn’t have thrown out so many of your kind.

While your at it, maybe you should just go ahead and tell ‘em goodbye (with tears of course) because if this economic thing begins to work as planned, the voters will remember your vote today! If it does not, Obama is still a good surgeon, the patient just couldn’t be saved.

While I was out I listened to the “Big Tuba”, I can’t believe you folks don’t get tired of his dirge!

RAM News: B. I realize it has only been 3 and a half weeks, but it seems more like a month! I promise not to enjoy my time away from the White House, and also promise I will take no more vacations until President’s Day! Peace out.”

    Several things wrong here:
    1) quoting the NYT in support of your argument;
    2) putting your words in someone else’s mouth and attacking it;
    3) Specter is no conservative!

And you claim Bush is dumb?!

    2. See post 14, poor old Domo.

    3. I never said Specter was a conservative, I said “That’s the Conservative way! ” referring to greed, and indifference to the suffering of others.

Yes, I claim Bush is dumb?! But, you’re pretty dumb your own self!
