(2008-09-07) — Sen. Barack Obama told ABC’s George Stephanopolous on Sunday that he considered joining the military when he left high school in 1979, but declined when he learned that the Vietnam War had ended some four years earlier, and that the first Persian Gulf War wouldn’t start for another 11 years.
Sen. Obama’s opponent, Sen. John McCain was shot down, captured, and repeatedly tortured in Vietnam during more than five years as a prisoner of war, much of that in solitary confinement.
The Democrat presidential nominee, in a surprising revelation not mentioned in either of his two memoirs, said, “I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option, but since we weren’t at war, I thought, why bother getting ennobled if you can’t run through a hail of hot lead, or charge up a hill with a bayonet between your clenched teeth and plant Old Glory on the summit?”
The Illinois Democrat said he realized even in high school that peace-time military service “wouldn’t make a big difference on the resume” so he decided to become a community organizer in poor neighborhoods of Chicago, which at the time, was the closest he could get to Vietnam.
Sen. Obama told Mr. Stephanopolous that he had also considered being an Alaskan commercial fisherman and moose hunter, like Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, because “I liked the idea of being a bold adventurer on the American frontier, killing my own food and surviving the harsh elements.”
Instead, young Mr. Obama decided to pursue a law degree, because it was “as close as I could get to having bloody entrails on my hands.”

That may be, Scott, but Sarah Palin still has more testosterone than Obambi.
BTW, isn’t it amazing how the Obamatons rail about Mrs. Palin’s “inexperience” (and that may be true) yet continue to blind themselves to the very real fact that their messiah is even more inexperienced … and he’s running for President!
Dishonest shills, go look in a mirror you lemmings.

The gaffe-fest was hilarious, ABC should have Steph do more of them.
Disclaimer: I find O’Reilly entertaining.

We may look back and see this is where Obambi “jumped the shark” … or possibly jumped Saracuda.
Why would any presidential candidate say something like this, particularly an anti-war partisan? I still remember sHrillary saying she wanted to be a Marine … buwahahahahahaha! What is it with these left-wing sidewalk commandos?
I still want to see Obamessiah holding a 10 ga. goose shotgun asking at the local hardware store, “Iz dis whar I gets mah huntin’ thingy?” I guess that’s next.

Excellent as always Scott!
I also heard that Obama wanted to be truthful, sincere, patriotic and conservative, but the closest he could get was… well, you know where I’m going with this.

On the other hand, he delivered so much white powder during his college years that his car was referred to as “The Snowmobile.”

I also heard… uh, that Obama… uh, always wanted to… um, you know… uh, speak clearly.
wv = As ambitious — as they get.

All things, including my previous post, in moderation.
Well, how about: According to this, Obama’s first car may have been a snowmobile.

Obama would not have been a good soldier to have on the battle front. If he took off his helmet those ears would be a vulnerable target.
Ouch, I didn’t say that, didI.
Okay, this is a nicer statement. If Obama did join the military the Sad Sack Comic Books would have made a come back.
Alright, sigh, just let me say Jesus loves you
I know we don’t hear that much theses days

Faux headline:
Olbermann, Matthews: MSNBC and rest of media too conservative.
Why do barking moonbats just right of Stalin believe they’re centrists? I guess they’re so experienced at lying that when they lie to themselves they don’t notice.
Obama: I always dreamed of being Sarah Palin’s VP
Given that she’s more experienced than Obama as an executive officer, this is the first thing Obambi has said that actually makes sense.

Cindy McCain has more testosterone than Obama … and more foreign relations experience to boot.

What’s the point of joining the military anyway?
After all, if you feel that you simply must get yourself shot at, you can always just go on a diplomatic mission and dodge the sniper fire !

Red, you could always just head for downtown Philly (or Detroit I’m betting but I’m sure of the Philly part.

The Obama camp hasn’t given up yet. Somebody caught a recording of the MoveOn Marching Band practicing for his Inauguration.

I guess that young Obama wasn’t too impressed with the Iranian hostage situation in 1979 to consider how he may have made a difference in the military. Of course, that act of aggression against our nation occurred during the Carter Malaise Years.
Can you imagine OhBummer recalling his own version of Madame Hillary’s Tuszla (sp?) dash on the campaign trail?
As far as bagging or field dressing game, somehow, I cannot envision Ohbummer living in Alaska, much less providing his own sustenance through hunting. The arugula season is very short there, I understand.
Does this story remind you of Jawn Cary on his duck hunt? Or of the time he approached a clerk, asking if this was where he could “get me a huntin’ license”?
These metrosexual Fauntleroys shouldn’t engage in these fantasies. Their authenticity is highly suspect in contrast to Gov. Palin’s.

I also, like Obuckprivate graduated in 1979 and gave the military a lot of consideration. Under the Carter effect my employment desires were unfulfilled and finally in 1986 I actually joined the USAF. I was not motivated by the opportunities to kill people and break things, but rather the educational and vocational opportunities were of interest to me. I served four years and decided it was not a career that I desired. But I could sure make that old scratch and wonder radar system perform well, if you fix it right it will prove itself very reliable. They told me that our birds allowed our crews to consistently come out on top during competitions because our equipment made the difference. I didn’t settle for just being within the specified tolerances, but strove to make them dead-on the mark. We learned to spot trouble at the earliest signs and replaced everything that wasn’t operating at 100%. I enjoyed the work that I did there, the politics that came with the Air Force (at least in my unit) I could not tolerate very long.
