Obama To Conceal VP Pick Until VP is Needed

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 65 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-08-19) — Democrat presidential hopeful Barack Obama said today that he would reveal the name of his running mate “when, and if, we ever actually need a vice president.”

Rampant speculation about Sen. Obama’s VP pick has overshadowed headlines about an Iranian rocket launch, a deadly suicide bombing in Algeria, Russia’s failure to withdraw troops from Georgia, the resignation of the president of nuclear-armed Pakistan and start of the NFL pre-season.

However, Sen. Obama said today that choosing a vice presidential nominee is “largely irrelevant to the campaign, since this election is a referendum on hope and change — in other words, it’s a referendum on me.”

“What could a running mate bring to the ticket that I don’t already provide in abundance?” Sen. Obama asked rhetorically.

The candidate said he would let his vice president know that he or she has been chosen, “just as soon as there’s a foreign state funeral, a tie to break in the Senate, or some other excuse for having him take up space in my shadow.”

A stealth VP. Just what we need!

Wouldn’t this Person Who Shall Remain Nameless, in effect, be running for a Dick Cheney third term ?

OT…..The following email was sent this morning. I would encourage all loyal Scrapplers to contribute to Scott’s most excellent adventure to the Republican Convention, then copy and send a similar email to Rush as well…..

    To:ElRushbo@eibnet.com
Subject: Please have a Virtual Bake Sale for Scrappleface’s Scott Ott

    Dear Professor Limbaugh,

As a Dean’s List student at the Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies I respectfully beseech our learned Doctor. of Democracy and all around loveable little fuzz-ball to extend a helping hand to a deserving student. Scott Ott, the founder of Scrappleface.com, has received press credentials to the Republican National Convention. While the honor is most worthily bestowed upon him, there is no stipend provided to assist with his travelling and lodging expenses.

As an avid Limbaugh fan, and a contributor to the Scrappleface comments’ community, I humbly ask the Benevolent One to host a virtual “bake sale” to help Scott Ott cover his expenses. If you could let it be known to your listeners that contributions can be made at http://www.Scrappleface.com, it would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance in this noble endeavor, and I eagerly await your response.

    Best regards,
    (Your Name)

I must humbly disagree with your choice of Jack Sprat as Sec. of Health because he could eat no fat and his wife could eat no lean. There would be a volatile situation in the Sprat household ,not to mention no more mac and cheese.

    Two threads.

I think I said it best in 2003 when I said this: You will know we are winning in Iraq when the MSM is reporting anything but world events. We don’t hear the daily body count any more.

If we were losing it would help Obama so we don’t hear about it.

One of the first days this week when I had the opportunity to listen to Rush. It would be great if Rush got the editor a leg up to the convention. If it were not for Rush I would never have heard of Scrappleface.

Funny that Scrappleface is still here even after the last elections. I heard some say that it would go away once the votes were cast. Scott is still at it, improved security for sure, but still here.

Please pray for Fred. Thank you conserva-tip for alerting us that he has not been posting or returning your emails, as I just called him and luckily he was able to answer the phone.

Thanks for the update on Fred vittles scooper. When I realized that he hadn’t posted or emailed for a while I went back to his last post to see when it was and what it said. It also made me think something was not right, keep him in your prayers Scrapplers.

Unrelated to this post, not this thread though.
    Romans 12:3

Dear mindnumbed kid and my other fellow scrapplers: Fred posts with one hand and is unable to barely move, and never ever complains. Fred is the most courageous godly man I have ever encountered. Please pray for this magnificent friend and veteran who always testifies of God’s power and love.

  • 26 Darthmeister // Aug 19, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Obama hasn’t said it yet, but with his rather pathetic attempts at triangulation and appealing to the whacked out kooks on the fringe left as well as to swing voters I wouldn’t be surprised if the following might slip past his lying lips one day:

“My friends, (uh) we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. (uh … pause) I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it. (wait a minute! … uhhh)”

  • 27 conserve-a-tip // Aug 19, 2008 at 9:28 pm

Vittles Scooper, thank you for your updates and information.

For the rest of you, I talked a little bit with Fred this evening and he has had a rough time of it. It was very exciting as I had never spoken with him, but only had an email friendship. How fun to have a voice to go with the letters now. He is a wonderful man and friend and wise beyond measure. Our prayers are definitely with him!!

I think that I need to call MsRightWing, Ink next! Been missing her too.

Some things come wrapped in big and/or little packages - some thing aren’t wrapped at all.
I had just finished reading what vs and mkk said about me and was blushing when the phone rang and a voice “Hi Fred! How are you doing?” Not recognizing the voice I of course said, “Who’s this?” The answer came back clean and clear, “Scott Ott.”

I’m not that easily caught off guard but if the voice had said, “George Bush.” or “This is Rush.” I couldn’t have been more thrilled or happy.

I guess God set that up to take the sting out of the next call 5 minutes later from Dr. Young (the Dr, overseeing my hospital stay) He tells me that the lab reported that my urine sample had what looked to be maybe cancer cells and is setting me up to see an Urologists.

Oh well “….a little rain must fall.” so I’m praying that it turns out to be a false alarm, but if not - then God’s will be done…I’ve got a lot of good friends I’m made here at SF thanks to Scott but if it’s not good then I will probably have to go back in to clear everything up so my body can concentrate on a bigger battle. Wish me well and I covet your prayers on my behalf. If anyone wants to talk, e-mail Scott and ask for my # - as long as I’m here to answer, I will.

IN GOD WE TRUST - Fred Sinclair, Heirborn Ranger

boberin #40: bob, no knock on you, but my advice is - keep your day job! ( I was never fond of phone calls at 3 a.m., myself … )

The odd choices in Barack Obama’s career .

He will lose for one reason above all, one that has been overlooked in any analysis that I’ve yet seen. Barack Obama will lose because he is a flake.

I’m using the term in its generally accepted sense. A flake is not only a screwup, but someone who truly excels in making bizarre errors and creating incredibly convoluted disasters. A flake is a “fool with energy”, as the Russian proverb puts it. (“A fool is a terrible thing to have around, but a fool with energy is a nightmare”.)

  • 42 boberinyetagain // Aug 20, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Red, you may have a point. I’m not fond of phone calls anytime, day or night. I can sit right next to a ringing phone with caller ID and not even look to see who’s calling. It’s never good news…
