(2008-04-24) — Responding to remarks by presidential candidate John McCain suggesting he’s an ‘elitist‘, Sen. Barack Obama today called the accusation 'gauche' and 'droll'.
“First of all, it’s très gauche and a bit bourgeois to banter about elitism at all,” said Sen. Obama, “It simply isn’t done in polite society — not among my chums from Harvard Law School or Columbia University, and certainly not in the Senate cloak room or the finer salons.”
Speaking to reporters from behind the iron gate of his nearly $2 million mansion in the historic Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago, the twice-published author noted, “It’s quite droll that my wealthy senate colleague has the gall to besmirch my reputation by suggesting I can’t relate to the hoi polloi. Me? An elitist? Why, if I weren’t such a good sport, I’d challenge Sen. McCain to a duel with rapiers.”

I must be really dim. I’d prefer a President that was just a tad “above it all” a “person of honor”. That may well leave my drinking buddies out of this but the leader of the free world should be just a smidge above “average”.
Trying to make one feel foolish for these traits don’t speak well of the accuser IMHO

It should be obvious beyond all doubt that Barack Obama is a standard issue, plain-vanilla egomaniac - and of all people, McCain should be able to figure that one out !

BO has abandoned his common man roots as surely as Jeremiah Wright has done. Both preach the racism of low expectations to their communities in an effort to enslave people into dependence on the federal government. That mentality is, in large part, what destroyed New Orleans in Katrina’s wake, and so many other inner city communities who never suffered a natural catastrophe. If he had an ounce of integrity he’d show poor people how to follow in his footsteps; to value education, to develop a strong work ethic, to support each other in their communities, keep away from drugs, and to stop giving into the self defeating trap of blaming others should they fail.
BO is a success story. He owes his success to the family and community from which he arose. If he were a true leader he’d stop hanging out with race baiting pols and “religious leaders”, and start speaking the truth to the inner city power brokers. Maybe a few discussions with the likes of Bill Cosby would put him in the right direction.

that’s a stretch, but I give ya points for bringing Iraq in to it. They mentioned Brazil, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Kazakistan, sea based oil platforms, and even war torn Canada. I didnt see anything about Iraq.
My point being the world seems to have a generous supply of crude. So why are gas prices still going up?

My understanding is that the underlying mechanism propelling the spiraling crude oil prices is a meld of several mitigating factors and that the available supply itself really doesn’t figure all that prominently into the equation.
I sold a cup of rice today on ebay for 65,000 USD—they took delivery in an armored car—I guess I should have asked for more.

Obama’s a liberal elitist, and and an effete elitist, at that. Part of the “new castrati” as Rush likes to refer to such leftist “men.” My current favorite Obama moment is the one from a couple of days ago where he barked at a reporter for asking him a question while he was trying to eat his “waffle.” How dare that reporter spoil the superiority of an Obama photo op with a silly question? Shouldn’t we all know how important Obama is? Just the thought of Obama should make us all feel faint from our own inferiority.
BTW, Barry must be losin’ his touch. Notice how the “fainting” at his rallies has stopped. What a phony!

If I may offer try to clarify — there is a difference between being ‘elite’ and being ‘elitist.’
Obama is elite. Top notch education. Wealthy (self-made). Etc. You’d expect a president to have some of that.
Obama’s comments show he is also an elitist, meaning that he thinks he knows people better than they know themselves. If only they were wise enough to elect him, they would then have good jobs and not have to settle for voting for Republicans based on the other things they “cling” to, like guns and religion and antipathy toward people who aren’t like them, etc.
