1960's CIA Plot to Kill Castro Nears Success

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 19 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2008-03-07) — A top-secret plan by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), hatched in the 1960’s, to assassinate Cuban dictator Fidel Castro is said to be “closing in on success”, according to an unnamed source in Langley, Virginia.

The news comes on a day when President George Bush said the Cuban government must change before U.S. policy toward it would.

The unnamed, now-retired CIA agent, in revealing the 48-year plot, said, “We had to do it in a way that wouldn’t look like a state-sponsored hit job.”

“One day we’re brainstorming,” the source said, “and it comes to us…like pow! What if Castro appeared to die of natural causes due to old age?”

The source said “the beauty of the plan” was that it would free Cubans from tyranny while giving “plausible deniability” to Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush.”

Hey you might be pretty old but you are spry enough to jump onto this new thread in a heartbeat. I was in my inbox when the notice arrived and you were here already!

No, no, prettyold (#1); the Bay of Pigs was part of a vast right-wing conspiracy concocted by Karl Rove, and others, to flood southern Florida with Cuban refugees whose votes in November 2000 would be essential to the razor-thin presidential vote in Florida, which in turn enabled the Republicans to throw the election into the SCOTUS and steal the election for Shrub!

You have to admit ; pretty impressive scheme for a ten-year-old!

WOW - Who would have thunk it? The CIA looking for “plausible deniability”? That’s a new one. At least they ran a successful program, so far it seems to be working fine.

We don’t have a Bay of pigs here in America that I know about. Might be a good place to move. I doubt any Muslim fanatics would be moving in to spoil the neighborhood.

They say if you wait long enough all your dreams can come true.

Jiminy Cricket, how about that (Cliff Edwards )

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
    Anything your heart desires
    Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
    No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
    As dreamers do

    Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
    The sweet fulfillment of
    Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
    Your dreams come true

Yes, all this talk of Fidel and Cuba causes one to reminisce about ducking under the Holy Spirit Elementary School desk, covering the eyes and ears, replaying the various Mushroom Clouds of movies/television and thinking, “What a waste of time,” while trying to avoid the penetrating, scrutinizing, death-glare of a couple of Nuns milling about, jingle-jangling their massive rosaries (apparently quite ready to martyr themselves to a 1,000 megaton Nuclear Blast).

I didn’t know the word “futile” at the time but I sure knew its meaning and I laughed every time we had that stupid drill—trapped under a puny desk with somebody else’s initials scratched (sloppily) into its top.

    “Do you believe?” he cried.

Tink sat up in bed almost briskly to listen to her fate.

She fancied she heard answers in the affirmative, and then again she wasn’t sure.

“What do you think?” she asked Peter.

“If you believe,” he shouted to them, “clap your hands; don’t let Tink die.”

Knowing Senator John Sidney McCain III, as we all surely do, what does this actually mean?

  • 14 prettyold // Mar 7, 2008 at 10:06 pm

How close is the Bay of Pigs to Gitmo? Now if the terrorists are being waterboarded with water from the Bay Of Pigs I can see how that might upset them.
Loved your song, MsRW ,brought back memories.

canceling son Whoa! this belongs back on the Obama-Obortion thread.

    Things are getting ugly.

Barack Obama adviser Samantha Power has resigned after it became known that she had called Hillary Clinton “a monster”, during an interview conducted by Gerri Peev for The Scotsman .

How unfair, Mr. O! What ever became of “freedom of expression” … hmmm? And besides, Ms. Powers wasn’t trying to be mean ! A “monster”, yes, but a “monster” with Character … with Conviction … fairly oozing with the power to effect “monstrous” change in our country ! America wants … America needs … America demands … the Shriek !

  • 17 mindknumbed kid // Mar 8, 2008 at 12:31 am

But you have to admit it - Obamanation has the perfect campaign strategy - change. Who can hold him to any promises? All he has to do is say, “I’ve changed my mind about that…he can even change his mind about change and become for the status quo, who can be angry about that. Change, or the lack thereof, what a wonderful platform!

mkk Re#17: “Change, or the lack thereof, what a wonderful platform!

Rush used to talk about “symbolism over substance.” Obama lives it.

  • 19 mindknumbed kid // Mar 13, 2008 at 8:08 pm

    Obama epitomizes it!
