(2007-11-17) — As the creator of Dolly, the world’s first cloned sheep, announced he had abandoned cloning to pursue more promising ways of tapping the potential of stem cells, Democrats in Congress will introduce legislation this week to fund research “to find other good reasons to create and destroy embryos.”
Prof. Ian Wilmut’s choice to turn his back on the highly-inefficient and ethically-controversial “therapeutic cloning,” in favor of procedures that would use a patient’s own cells to spawn stem cells, may send shock waves through the scientific world, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it doesn’t discourage Democrats.
“There’s no reason to give up on the search for miracles,” said Rep. Pelosi, “Now is the time to redouble our efforts to increase the value of human life by spurring a vibrant after-market for embryonic byproducts. America should lead the world in this growth industry.”
Rep. Pelosi, said the world still suffers many problems that need miraculous solutions which may come only through embryonic stem cells.
“Science must now look to embryos,” she said, “to meet the global needs for cheap, reliable sources of energy, protein, and cosmetic enhancement procedures that keep one’s skin looking young and supple.”

Good use of alliteration.

Maggie~~
Thank you so very much for asking! Curiously, I just happened to pop in-I’ve been around-just avoiding the Comments recently-writer’s block, or something.
I do get the RSS Feed of each new ScrappleFace post, though, and I just couldn’t resist sharing that I’d heard rumors that Madame Nancy had clandestinely earmarked funds for a Chinese SuperTanker of some Top Secret Youth Balm.
Oh, and

Dolly was a breakthrough of sorts (as were many of Herr Doktor Mengele’s experiments) but it’s clear any effort to further pursue this line of research is just woolgathering.

Last I heard the doctor went to the Andes in search of an animal that proved more valuable in the cloning industry and returned with Dolly Llama

“…..America should lead the world in this growth industry.†Geesch, I wonder how many shares she and Harry have bought in this industry?
Perhaps Carl, Debbie, Teddy, Barbie, et cetera got in on it too?

re:10
I wasn’t look for Dolly Yaks, I was looking for Dolly Llamas, which, last time I had a Yogi’s Yugo out-of-body experience and drifted to the Andes, I found the woolly beasts needed for my comments
I have no desire to go to the freezing areas of China/Tibet in body or other wise.
Oh, by the way, I had the o-o-b experience from cooking up a batch of Lutefisk. Does it every time, therefore no Lutefisk Dollys are allowed in the bunker

Discourage Democrats… is that possible?
13 mig // Nov 17, 2007 at 4:27 pm
How can they get discouraged with this kind of support?

” We must insure a steady supply of stem cell sources” claimed Dr. A.B. Ortionist of the “Making Babies For Fun And Profit” clinic. “We prefer embryos that have been fertilized, so that the materials can develop at no cost to us.”

Remember the old commercial “Don’t mess around with Mother Nature”?
Dolly’s Daddy should have thought of that ,before he risked so much to be the first to father a sheep.Of course ,by being first he is assured of a nice steady supply of money ,and he can now do the thing that might actually work.
God Knows!!
