Bush Strikes Protester Export Deal in Latin America

(2007-03-10) — President George Bush will return from his Latin American tour this week with an agreement-in-principle to aid several nations by providing them with a steady supply of low-cost, American-made anti-Bush protesters.

“Our experienced, homegrown protesters will augment the budding anti-me industry in these developing nations,” Mr. Bush said at a news conference today in Uruguay. “I think Latin Americans will be impressed by our high-volume products.”

In an extraordinary goodwill gesture, the president did not ask his Latin American counterparts for anything in return.

“We’re more than glad to help,” said Mr. Bush. “After all you’ve shipped to us, it’s the least we could do.”

  13. Cardinal Park, who co-blogs at TigerHawk had this observation:

I have held rather tenaciously to the view that the war in Iraq was 1) well chosen; 2) noble; 3) well fought and 4) won.

That has elicited some wonderfully amusing and sometimes nasty criticism, primarily from the left. I happen to believe — completely smugly and to the utter annoyance of my critics — that they will eventually come around. I draw the historical parallel to the Reagan administration’s diplomatic approach to the Soviet Union and its abandonment of the language of detente, which was detested by and critiqued aggressively by the left and which today is almost universally acknowledged by left and right as responsible for the collapse of the USSR . . .

Eventually, the left must come to embrace what we are doing and achieving in the Middle East. Defeating tyranny and genocide is the raison d’etre of liberalism, is it not?

My observation: I like what Mr. Park is saying but I think he’s assuming far too much about the left’s willingness to pull their head out of the sand and realize the GWOT may last at least several decades. Obviously the left has neither the will or resolve to see such a war through to its completion. They’ll make deals with Islamist lunatics before joining the rest of the free people in this deadly struggle against international terrorism.

  15. Another good one Scott.

    Off topic.

I watched the repeat of “The 1/2 Hour News Hour”
    tonight.

I enjoyed it again. Wouldn’t it be great if they hired
Scott to write satire for them. He’s the best in the
business. I wonder how we could bring him to their
attention. I enjoy this site so much that I’d hate to
    lose him, though.

  16. myword: Fox has already “picked up” the show for another 13 installments, as I understand it.

Those of you who enjoy a little TV on the weekend should consider watching Princeton University Professor Emeritus Bernard Lewis deliver the Irving Kristol Award Lecture on Book TV (C-SPAN2) Sunday at either 10:00 AM EDT or again at 2:00 PM EDT (check local listings). The program is 1 hour long. Lewis is a highly renowned Western expert on Islam, & is the author of many books. FYI.
