(2006-12-01) — Just days before the Iraq Study Group releases its top-secret report, President George Bush today ordered the Pentagon to preemptively redeploy U.S. troops from Iraq to “neutral neighboring countries including Iran and Syria.”
“I’ve said that I won’t order our troops to make a graceful exit from Iraq,” said Mr. Bush, “But I never ruled out making a graceful entrance into Iran and Syria where I expect our partners in peace to welcome us with open and raised arms.”
The order surprised many, coming as it does on the heels of news that the Pentagon has discovered “smoking gun” evidence that terrorists in Iraq use weapons shipped from Iranian factories to kill U.S. troops and others.
But Mr. Bush said the Iraq Study Group, Kofi Annan and other Democrats have convinced him that engagement with Iran and Syria is crucial to finding a “holistic solution” to the Iraq situation.
“At the very least,” said Mr. Bush, “Redeploying our troops to Iran should help Iranian weapons manufacturers save some money on shipping.”

GENERAL JOHN ABIZAID, in The Harvard Gazette:
America cannot walk away from Iraq without risking another world war. That warning was sounded at the Kennedy School forum Nov. 17 by Gen. John Abizaid, commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), the man responsible for U.S. military strategy in the Middle East.
“We can walk away from this enemy, but they will not walk away from us,” Abizaid told the forum audience during a discussion titled “The Long War.”
“We have not failed yet and we will not fail if we all understand what we have to do. If we can stay together nothing can stop us and we can make the world a better place.”
Abizaid cited what he called the three greatest challenges facing the world - the Arab-Israeli conflict; the rise of extremist groups “with a dark vision of the future”; and, specifically, the dangers posed by “Shia revolutionary thought.”
“Where these things come together is in Iraq,” he said. “It’s absolutely not an easy thing to do,” Abizaid went on to say. “But the sacrifice that is necessary to stabilize Iraq must be sustained in order for the region itself to become more resilient against these three challenges.”
The Donks railed against Bush and Rumsfeld for “not listening to their most vocal generals.” So the question now is will the Donks listen to this general who served in that theater as commander?

I have been wondering why I haven’t been hearing about the smoking gun to which Scott refers. It was on Drudge…it was on WND…but you sure don’t hear about it much from other sources.
And then it dawned on me that the liberals are totally anti-smoking and so they wouldn’t even acknowledge the existence of anything smoking. And then, add to that, since they are so anti-gun as well…my goodness…they would die before acknowledging a gun; let alone a smoking one. So there you have it.

Campus activists plan to display an “ACLU Nativity Scene” at the University of Texas in response to the civil liberties group’s “extreme” campaign to remove Christmas from the public sphere.
“We’ve got Gary and Joseph instead of Mary and Joseph in order to symbolize ACLU support for homosexual marriage, and of course there isn’t a Jesus in the manger,” said Tony McDonald, chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas branch on the Austin campus.
McDonald told WND his group has been working on the “crèche” at his apartment and plans to install it on the West Mall of the campus for display Monday and Tuesday.
The three Wise Men in the display are Lenin, Marx and Stalin, McDonald said, because ACLU founder Roger Baldwin was a backer of Soviet-style communism.
As director of the ACLU in 1934, Baldwin wrote an article entitled “Freedom in the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R.” in which he said “the Soviet Union has already created liberties far greater than exist elsewhere in the world.”
“The whole scene is a tongue-in-cheek way of showing the many ways that the ACLU and the far left are out of touch with the values of mainstream America,” McDonald said in a statement.
The scene will also have a “terrorist shepherd” and an angel with Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s face, using a photograph of the soon-to-be speaker of the House from San Francisco.

I hope they will…and I hope Bush does too. The reason this war has gone so badly (aside from the constant leftist assault) is because our civillian leadership failed to heed the advice of people who have actually done this sort of thing before.
I was rereading Machiavelli’s “The Prince” last night and I was struck by how completely unoriginal the “Bush Doctrine” really is. Machiavelli talks about how the Romans used preemption as a matter of common sense; nip a problem in the bud before it gets big enough to nip you in the arse.
I wish some people on the left would pick up that book. They could use a dose of realism about now.
Bush should give it a read too…if he’s finished reading The Stranger yet.

Godfrey, I agree on both your points. As to the ACLU, it was founded by a commie symp and I guess it stands to reason the organization’s agenda would essentially parallel that of the Demoncratic Party agenda today.
If the ACLU stopped being almost exclusively the American CRIMINAL Liberty Union and take a more constitutionally defensible position of being the American Civil Liberty Union which also vigorously protected the rights of hard-working, law-abiding citizens, America would be a much freer and better place as a result. More specifically, the ACLU’s opposition to private gun rights (instead of taking a collectivist view) and its continued infringement upon the rights of people of faith to freely practice their religion in the public institutions and in the public arena, what better way to honor the original intent of the American founders with respect to the founding religion of this country?
Let America be America with its traditions and religious character on full display. I mean, what’s with trying to take the Christ child out of Christmas, for goodness sake? What an Orwellian lie!
