Experts: Bin Laden Death Might Explain U.N. Sulfur Smell

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 49 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2006-09-23) — United Nations authorities are probing a possible link between reports that al Qaeda leader Usama Bin Laden died recently and the peculiar sulfur smell which Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he detected while speaking to the U.N. General Assembly this week.

Mr. Chavez attributed the aroma to the recent appearance at the podium of “the devil,” a term of endearment for U.S. President George Bush, but chemical experts at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said it now seems more likely that “someone split Hell wide open recently, permitting the noxious fumes to escape.”

A French publication, L’Est Republicain, today quoted a leaked secret service memo dated September 21 which indicated that Saudi sources believe Mr. Bin Laden died in Pakistan on August 23 of typhoid fever.

An unnamed journalism expert said the fact that the Bin Laden death report was leaked should provide sufficient evidence of its reliability, but the involvement of France and Saudi Arabia makes it “a slam dunk.”

As the rumor that Usama Bin Laden is dead spread worldwide, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began gearing up to provide massive disaster relief in the so-called ‘blue states’ where FEMA expects members of the Democrat party will be hardest hit.

I see Clinton lost his cool in an interview with Chris Wallace. We’ll be able to see the whole interview on Fox News Sunday. He’s revisiting the tired excuse that he “really, really” tried to get Bin Laden unlike “some” people he knows who were in office 8 months and didn’t do a thing.

Eight whole months and no success! As I recall, President Bush didn’t even have his whole team in place in 8 months because he couldn’t get them confirmed. See following:

“The Senate last night broke its latest logjam over President Bush’s judicial and administrative nominations, approving 15 of the nearly 90 nominees that had been held up in a dispute between Bush and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) over an appointment to the Federal Election Commission. …

“Before the White House called McCain late Wednesday to propose a cease-fire, 87 judicial and executive-branch nominations had been awaiting Senate votes, stymied first by a Democratic-Republican feud and then by McCain’s objections. Together, they produced what the Brookings Institution’s Presidential Appointee Initiative says was the longest confirmation drought since 1989.” The Washington Post July 26, 2002

Interesting. With Mc Cain it’s the same old, same old. There’s none so petty as a Presidential candidate scorned. He never got over the 2000 campaign and has been sticking it to Bush whenever he gets the chance.

Possum - re: It’s September; time to lighten up; enjoy football:

Welllll, let me tell you about football. I’m a huge Sooners fan (being as I live 30 minutes from the stadium) and last week’s Oregon game was enough to make this Christian stomp around a bit, but today, my alma mater - Middle Tennessee State University - played OU for the first time. I wanted to attend the game. I was gonna get tickets, but I shared the flu with my hubby and by this afternoon, he was in flu-foid misery. Not quite typhoid, but close. And so, we spent precious money on Pay-per-View.

With grilled steaks, steamed brocolli and rolls, and huge baked potatoes topped with cheese, bacon, butter and sour cream, we sat down enjoy our Midwest beef and to watch the game -he to cheer OU and me to cheer MTSU. Let me tell ya. I never got to cheer. I didn’t even get to jump up and say, “Go! Go!.” The middle of the 4th quarter MTSU had a whopping 66 yards gained. That quarter ended 59-0. So as to your football suggestion: Phooey. :-)

    FYI,

Tomorrow we’ll be in our last day at the Danville, Illinois Civil War Days re-enactment which is being held at Kennekuk Cove Park. Threatening weather has kept a good number of re-enactors and spectators away even though we haven’t received more than a few raindrops through Friday and Saturday.

We are re-enacting the battle of Elk Horn Tavern at Pea Ridge, Arkansas where the Union forces were defeated by the Confederates.

It’s the first Danville re-enactment after something like a fifteen year haitus. We have much optimism that the event will build in the coming years. Here’s a photo (scroll to bottom of page) of some of the active members of the 35th Illinois Regiment Co. A taken several years ago. I’m the second soldier from the right in rear rank. The photo was taken when I was wearing a full salt-and-pepper beard. I’m down to a full goatee with sideburns.

BTW, aL Zarqwiri’s replacement showed his first video production today, cutting off the head of a Turk, but thanks to our SCOTUS, that doesn’t classify as torture so I assume we will not arrest him for war crimes. The NYT alleges that Donald Rumsfeld cheats at squash. They go on to say that this “…..offers a window into Mr. Rumsfeld’s complicated psyche…..” from which they draw the conclusion that, when he doesn’t get a chance to play squash, he gets “cantankerous” and lobs unreasonable attacks upon the LLL/MSM:
“Mr. Rumsfeld packed his squash racket for an August trip to Alaska but never played a game, even though aides reserved courts at two stops. On the last day of the trip, he delivered his most cantankerous speech in months, likening criticism of the Iraq war to appeasement of the Nazis before World War II.”
    LOL
    It’s a really lame article.

Are there any places in Western US that do reinactments? I realise the location isn’t right but it would be really cool to see.
