Saudis to Rescue: King Moves to Slash Oil Prices
(2005-08-31) — In a rapid response to America’s hurricane disaster plight, the King of Saudi Arabia announced this morning that his kingdom would boost oil production to force the global price-per-barrel for light sweet crude below $40. The move will rescue President George Bush from having to tap the strategic oil reserves, set aside for use during war.
“It’s the least we can do for our friends, the United States,” said King Abdullah. “After all, you have treated us kindly despite the fact that 15 of the 9/11 hijackers were our subjects, and many of the attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq are committed by Saudis. Pumping out a few extra million barrels per day is a trifle.”
In related news, the French government continued high-level discussions about assisting U.S. hurricane victims, as opponents argued that France was not obliged to help since the warranty on the Louisiana Purchase expired long ago.
