(2002-10-11) — Rep. Dick Gephardt, D-MO, introduced a bill today to allow thieves to keep what they’ve stolen if they haven’t been arrested within five years of the theft.
In a similar move yesterday, Rep. Gephardt introduced a bill to grant legal status to undocumented aliens who have lived and worked in the United States for five years.
“It’s a time in America to come together,” he said. “We need to let bygones be bygones. Why hold a grudge? If these folks have been able to elude capture for that long, then it’s clear that the law has no power over them. We should welcome them into the fellowship of civil society.”
